Chapter 184: Loyalty Comes First
Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Loyalty Comes First
Leaving the hotel, Yusuf Zuck wandered aimlessly on the streets of Jakarta, everything here was foreign to him, and the passing crowd was not his kind.
Honestly, he didn’t have a particularly special impression of Indonesia, apart from knowing that it was surrounded by sea, with many tourist destinations, and that in ancient China, Indonesia was referred to as the Javanese state.
Of course, in his memory, there were many Chinese-Indonesians, and he had seen news about anti-Chinese incidents in Indonesia, etc. So, he always harbored the notion that those who are not kin will have different intentions.
He felt no fondness for the people here.
He walked the streets, not knowing where to go, all the while worrying whether Mia would make it back safely.
After several hours of blind wandering, not even knowing where he was as it was getting dark in the afternoon, he saw a Chinese restaurant and went in.
It might have been the dinner rush, as there were many diners, most of them Chinese-faced, but there were also some Indonesians with brown skin.
The waiter was Chinese, and upon seeing Yusuf Zuck enter the restaurant, displayed neither warmth nor indifference—it was normal for Chinese diners to come to the restaurant.
Yusuf Zuck ordered a few bowls of rice, a dish of braised pork with preserved vegetables, which tasted almost the same as in China, and he even thought it tasted better than any he had had back home.
Indonesia is a land of spices, and the cuisine here had a full complement of aromatic herbs.
After finishing his meal, with the lights now lit, Jakarta, as the capital of Indonesia and the largest city in Southeast Asia, was very lively.
When Yusuf Zuck left the restaurant, Fleur Carson’s call came through, which was what he had been hoping for the most. Fleur Carson had lived abroad for many years, mingling with the dark world. She was well-informed about assassin organizations, mercenary organizations, and so on. Yusuf Zuck had great hopes for her as she could use her special channels to find some leads.
"Is it convenient to talk?" Fleur Carson asked directly after the call connected.
"I’m outside, not at the hotel. Marco Tuff just received a call from the kidnappers, they’re demanding five hundred million US dollars, but the payment has to be made in Singapore and the release in Jakarta; two operations occurring simultaneously!" Yusuf Zuck recounted the latest developments.
"Huff—five hundred million, they really are bold enough to ask for the moon," Fleur Carson exclaimed with a gasp.
"Have you found anything else?" Yusuf Zuck asked.
Fleur Carson thought for a moment, "Personally, I’m pretty sure it was done by Jeff Frost, and Jeff Frost is still in Jakarta!"
"Jeff Frost? Is that a person or an organization?" Yusuf Zuck inquired further.
"It’s the mercenary organization I mentioned before, Jeff Frost Mercenaries. They are active all over the world. The founder is a person known as ’Hunter’—he’s the helmsman of Jeff Frost and also a hunter, so usually, the outside world calls him ’Falcon’. Their organization’s members are mostly ex-soldiers from various countries, with a lot from the United States, but also the UK, Korea, France, and there are even Chinese among them. The group is roughly less than a hundred strong. They are active because they take on all kinds of jobs: kidnapping, murder, bodyguarding, etc. They make money wherever there is money to be made. Their reputation isn’t particularly good, but nobody dares to offend them."
"I don’t want to hear how they are or what they’re up to—can you find their hideout in Jakarta?" Yusuf Zuck said urgently.
"I can, but I won’t go looking for it!" Fleur Carson shook her head over the phone, "Dude, give it a rest. In front of these guys, there’s no room for heroism. Those lone heroes in American movies are all made-up. So even if I knew where they were, I wouldn’t take you on a fool’s errand to play hero!"
"You should know that they’re battle-hardened, with immense combat experience and top-notch individual equipment. Even if the two of us had guns, we’d still be like two little cubs to them. If they found out we were deliberately approaching them, they’d blow our heads off in a minute!"
"Fleur Carson, I’m not joking with you. I have to rescue Mia early because I suspect there is a traitor from the mercenaries with Marco Tuff, so Mia isn’t safe. You might think I have a death wish, but what I want to say is, no one in this world can kill me. So consider this me begging you, please help me find Jeff Frost’s hideout!" For the first time, Yusuf Zuck spoke to Fleur Carson seriously and earnestly.
"No way. Even if you were a god, a bullet to the head would kill you, so I can’t let you go on a suicide mission, because you’re my brother!" Fleur Carson hung up with a snap.
Yusuf Zuck swore, and immediately called Fleur Carson back.
"What now?" Fleur Carson answered the call, sounding annoyed.
"Where are you? I want to tell you how I secretly sneaked into Jakarta. It’s the biggest secret of my life. Once you know my secret, you’ll understand that I can’t die!" Yusuf Zuck decided to lay his cards on the table and speak truthfully, realizing that unless he showed some of his capabilities, Fleur Carson might not help him trace that mercenary, Jeff Frost.
"Hahaha, I couldn’t care less!" Fleur Carson started laughing.
"Damn it, Carson! A man’s got to be responsible. You know that? You’d go through fire and water for your girlfriend, risk life and limb without hesitation. Are you just going to watch me live with guilt, let me see Mia get hurt with my own eyes?" Yusuf Zuck questioned loudly.
"She’s not your woman, right? You haven’t slept with her, have you?" Fleur Carson asked, still laughing.
Yusuf Zuck took a deep breath, "Some women aren’t just someone you’ve slept with to consider them yours. Mia and I, we have a special bond. It might not be romantic, but she already holds a significant place in my heart. If you don’t help me today, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life."
"I think I’m beginning to understand. You just want to curry favor with her old man, right? They’re about to pay the ransom, what’s it to you?" Fleur Carson said discontentedly.
"You should know me. In my book, money is useless. I believe no amount of money is more important than people. I’m the kind of person who wears his heart and loyalty on his sleeve. That’s true for Mia, for you, for any brother or woman by my side. If any of you are in trouble, I’d lay down my life to save you! So, you have to help me."
"I can’t win an argument with you..." Fleur Carson muttered under her breath. Yusuf Zuck’s last few sentences had moved him because Yusuf Zuck indeed was someone whose emotions and loyalty came first. Yusuf Zuck had once risked his life to help him, Fleur Carson.
And it was Yusuf Zuck’s character that Fleur Carson admired, the reason this outstanding assassin stayed with Yusuf Zuck.
Because in this life, Yusuf Zuck would never betray him. They would share wealth and face death together, not sell each other out for glory.
"Where are you? I’ll come to you. Also, we might need money later, my US dollars might not be enough!" Fleur Carson conceded, ready to take Yusuf Zuck to gather information.
"How much do you need? I’ll pay for it!" Yusuf Zuck’s lips curled upward, and he let out a happy laugh.
