Chapter 170: The Beaten Waiter

Chapter 170: Chapter 170: The Beaten Waiter

Yusuf Zuck and Mia sat in a corner under the banquet, Yusuf holding a glass of red wine, savoring each sip, while Mia drank fruit juice. She never drank alcohol in public, no matter who urged her.

Right after the two of them got seated, two young men who had exchanged a sign with Leilani May came over.

"Lara, when did you get here?" The two young men actually knew Mia.

Lara just rolled her eyes and showed no intention of standing up to introduce them, simply saying, "I have a friend with me today, and we’re discussing some matters. Let’s catch up another day, thanks." She was politely showing them out, not wanting to talk to these two.

"Hehe, Lara, you’ve got it wrong. We don’t mean anything by it, we just wanted to get to know your friend here. You know us, we’re starting up a business, and having more friends means more paths, right?"

"Sorry, I’m his bodyguard." Yusuf chuckled.

"Okay then, Lara, you guys chat." The two young men walked away disappointed and disheartened.

"Annoying. If anyone else comes over later, just help me block them," Mia complained. "Whenever I’m at places like this, every Tom, Dick, and Harry comes over trying to get close. Can’t they see I can tell what they’re really thinking?"

"Maybe they’re just indulging you. You are the beloved daughter, a princess, the future heiress of the Tuff family. Getting to know you could be useful for their future, right? Even if they can’t win your heart, becoming your friend would be a big boost for them!"

"Yo, you sure know quite a bit, huh? So what about you? What do you want from getting close to me, also hoping to win my heart?"

"Grandma, it was you who dragged me here, okay?" Yusuf said with a mix of laughter and exasperation.

"So you haven’t thought about winning me over?" Mia asked curiously.

"Do you want the truth or a lie?" Yusuf asked with a mischievous smile.

"Forget it, don’t say either. I don’t want to hear it; it’s no fun!" Mia immediately stopped Yusuf from continuing, knowing some things are better left unsaid. She was a clever woman.

After the two young men left, indeed more people came over to greet them, including several ladies, but Mia had Yusuf block them all. She was there for charity, leaving socializing to the company’s executives, to her father.

In her life, she wouldn’t follow her father’s path. She wouldn’t do business or take control of the company, so she didn’t need to socialize with business circles.

A few good friends were enough; there was no need for too many.

After making her rounds, Leilani May moved over to the corner of the two young men and sat between them.

Although Leilani May was in her thirties, her allure was stronger than that of many women in their twenties. As soon as she sat down between the two men, they were captivated, intoxicated by her fragrance. Both even started feeling flush with arousal.

"So, got turned down?" Leilani May whispered.

"Er... Er..." Hearing Leilani May’s voice, the two young men were momentarily stunned before they gathered their wits. One of them muttered, "That woman is sick, I seriously suspect she’s a lesbian."

"Hehe, she even brought a male companion today, the sun must have risen from the west!" Another mocked.

"Actually, I have an idea that could get you closer to her," Leilani May mused.

"Forget it, no more interest. Rather than getting closer to her, I’d prefer to curry favor with you, Leilani May." One of the young men gazed intently at Leilani May’s cleavage!

Leilani May was taken aback for a moment, then covered her mouth, giggling.

"You’re a little rascal," Leilani May said, tapping one of the young men.

"Hehe, we all admire you, Leilani May," the other young man said with a mischievous grin.

"Well then, how about we discuss life tonight, just the three of us?" Leilani May looked at the two young men seductively: "It’s been a while since I’ve had some tender melons!"

"Not only tender but also fresh," the two young men chuckled lewdly.

"Alright, alright, don’t leave after the party’s over, find me in the upstairs office." Leilani May was welcoming to all comers. Two naive kids didn’t scare her at all; and if she didn’t take advantage of them, she would no longer be known as Leilani May.

Just as Leilani May finished speaking and was about to stand up, a waiter, coincidentally carrying a tray, bent over to place the drinks on the tea cart in front of her.

As Leilani May rose and the waiter bent, they collided unexpectedly, and the waiter’s tray was knocked over, spilling two glasses of red wine all over Leilani May.

"Damn it, are you blind?!"

"Smack—smack—" The two young men stood up angrily, one cursing and the other lashing out with a slap on each side of the waiter’s face.

The waiter almost fell, staggering two steps backward as many people at the event turned to look.

"It’s fine, it’s fine, everyone carry on, I’ll just go change my clothes," Leilani May indicated to the onlookers to continue, then whispered to the waiter: "Pack up and get out."

The waiter had a look of dejection, suddenly let out a bitter laugh, shook his head, and then turned to leave.

Yusuf Zuck and Mia had also noticed the situation, but neither of them stood up; everyone watched the waiter turn and seem to head to the back to change his clothes.

"That’s it, poor kid, got hit and got fired!" Mia sighed.

"That’s just bullying. I saw it earlier; the waiter didn’t do it on purpose, he was even trying to bring Leilani May a drink. And for what reason do those two little bastards have the right to hit someone?" Yusuf Zuck was also a nobody; just over half a month ago, he was a security guard, on the same social level as the waiter, so he felt sympathy for the waiter. At the same time, he thought the waiter lacked spine. If it had been him, he wouldn’t care if it were some rich guy’s son or whatnot, if you hit me, I’m going to hit back twice as hard.

"What good would hitting back do? There’s too big a gap in social status between a waiter and them!" Mia replied.

"Heh, bullying with their power," Zuck said fiercely. "If it were me, I would have knocked those two little bastards’ balls out!"

"Do you think everyone is as fearless as you?"

"Zzzt—zzzt—" Just then, suddenly, all the lights in the venue flickered and buzzed a few times before going out completely, leaving the place in pitch darkness.

"What happened? Why is there a blackout?"

"Staff, go check what’s going on!"

"Everyone stay calm, please stay where you are, it’ll be fixed soon," someone took the initiative to maintain order.

Indeed, with someone taking charge, the venue did not descend into chaos. Everyone waited for the power to return.

"Not good." At that moment, Zuck suddenly sensed something amiss. The instant the lights went out, his telekinesis covered a radius of fifteen meters, and while everyone was waiting for the lights, he saw through his powers that the waiter who had been slapped earlier had emerged from the back with a gleaming meat cleaver in hand, charging straight at the two young men who had hit him.

In the pitch black, no one could see him approaching with the knife.

Only Zuck saw it.

"Mia, stay put and don’t move, don’t you dare move, I’ll be right back!" As Zuck’s voice trailed off, he had already darted forward, speeding toward the waiter.

He wasn’t out to save the two young men; he wanted to save the waiter because he didn’t want the waiter to throw his life away over a few slaps.

Acting on impulse had life-threatening consequences, an act of folly.

As a fellow underdog, he didn’t want to see someone like him meet a fate so full of sorrow, so he had to intervene!
