Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Mia’s New Bodyguard

At ten o’clock at night, Yusuf Zuck drove his Land Rover, and Ember Vance drove her Audi. They left Haidian one after the other, without making any phone calls to each other. Neither car was driven fast, with Ember Vance closely following the Land Rover ahead.

About half an hour later, the two cars parked side by side outside a nearby Western restaurant, and then they went upstairs together.

"Get a new phone card, and let’s not use the old phones to contact each other in the future. Also, my phone was taken by them before, could they have installed something like a listening device in it?" Yusuf Zuck whispered.

"Shh—" Ember Vance suddenly made a shushing gesture, then leaned in close to Yusuf Zuck’s ear, and spoke in a voice only he could hear, "Where’s your phone?"

"Left it in the car," Yusuf Zuck shrugged his shoulders and said.

"Oh!" Hearing that the phone had been left in the car, Ember Vance let out a sigh of relief and said, "That’s possible. Later on, throw away your current phone and swap the card to a new device."

"Okay, but isn’t there some way to monitor my calls by just knowing my phone number without needing to install a listening device?" Yusuf Zuck asked, worried.

"There is," Ember Vance nodded and said. "There’s a type of software that can be embedded into your SIM card which allows, even if you change phones, the interception of calls and text messages anytime."

"Then I should change my phone card as well. Not many people know my number, so it wouldn’t be too troublesome to switch to a new one," Yusuf Zuck got a bit scared. If his calls were being intercepted, it could ruin everything.

"Mhm." While they were speaking, they had already taken their seats in the Western restaurant. Yusuf Zuck ordered a double portion of steak and also a bowl of Italian pasta. Ember Vance asked for just a steak.

"Those people have nothing to do with you, right?" While eating, Ember Vance slightly raised her head, pretending to nonchalantly glace at Yusuf Zuck, though she was actually very worried, worried that the deaths could indeed be related to Yusuf Zuck. If that were the case, she would go crazy.

"No connection, don’t think too much about it. I’ve offended many people, and since they can’t deal with me now, they resort to such despicable methods," Yusuf Zuck shook his head. Such matters, one could never admit to anyone, and besides, it truly wasn’t his doing.

"Oh, that’s good!" Ember Vance visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Yusuf Zuck was preoccupied, so he wasn’t talking much tonight and had no intention of teasing Ember Vance. Ember Vance could feel that Yusuf Zuck was troubled, but she didn’t know how to console him, so she could only quietly keep him company. This young woman was also feeling upset today.

After dinner, as they were walking down the stairs, Yusuf Zuck’s arm was unconsciously hooked by hers, turning her face red. She thought that by doing this, she could cheer up Yusuf Zuck a bit.

Yusuf Zuck’s body paused for a moment, and he glanced at her. Ember Vance turned her head away, pretending not to notice his gaze.

"Shall I go to your place tonight?" Yusuf Zuck suddenly whispered.

"Eh..." Ember Vance was totally caught off guard by Yusuf Zuck suddenly springing this question on her, so she got flustered and withdrew her arm, saying, "What do you want to go to my place for..."

"Just kidding with you," Yusuf Zuck chuckled, pulling her arm back and saying, "I was just thinking about stuff earlier. Thanks for today, but you should also get two phones—one for the public and another private line to contact me!"

"Sure, let’s go buy one now? I know a phone store that’s still open at this hour!" Ember Vance said joyfully.

"Alright, lead the way, Miss Fleur!" Yusuf Zuck laughed.

"Let’s go." Ember Vance, tickled by Yusuf Zuck’s teasing, led the way, driving ahead in high spirits.

Minutes later, Yusuf Zuck’s car passed over Siyuan Bridge in Chaoyang, and he slowed down, rolled down the window, and threw his phone, along with the SIM card inside it, into the river below the bridge.

Indeed, Yusuf Zuck directly threw his phone away—into the river, to be precise. Regardless of whether the phone had been bugged or not, he had to change it, change everything.

He was also fortunate that the car keys hadn’t been searched and taken. If they had been, he would’ve even suspected that a listening device had been installed in his car.

Ember Vance grew up in the capital, so she was very familiar with the local terrain. Although it was already night, she still led Yusuf Zuck to a phone megastore that was open at night, selling all kinds of mobile phone brands.

Yusuf Zuck wasn’t particularly passionate about trendy mobile phones. He believed that as long as a phone could make and receive calls and send text messages, and had a sufficiently long battery life, it was good enough.

Therefore, he bought three mobile phones. He gave one Samsung to Ember Vance, and of the other two, one was a Samsung smartphone, but there was also a military phone with an extra-large battery—over 10,000 mAh—capable of lasting half a month, or even a month on standby.

In the megastore, they also sold phone cards without the need for real-name registration, so Yusuf Zuck and Ember Vance both got new numbers. Yusuf Zuck got two new numbers—one for external contacts, and the other he planned to use for internal contacts.

At eleven o’clock at night, after seeing Ember Vance off, Yusuf Zuck composed a text message on his military phone, and entered the phone numbers from his memory, sending it to multiple recipients.

His memory had become extraordinary after being electrocuted, so all the numbers from his phonebook were in his head.

The contacts in his military phone included Fleur Carson, Samuel Ross, Pillar, Dream Morrow, Jerome Hart—these people he planned to contact through an internal line in the future, using a separate number.

Then, using the smartphone, he entered the numbers for Miles O’brien, Jade Cooke, Everest Zuck, Mia, Ruth Wilcox, and so on, sending the messages with his name and phone number.

Having sent out the two messages, both of his phones began to ring in succession, as most of the recipients had replied to his text, asking why he had suddenly changed his number.

Yusuf Zuck could only say he lost his phone and didn’t mention any other reasons.

He didn’t return to the hospital; instead, he informed Felix Zuck that he was safe and then headed back to the villa—Ruth Wilcox’s villa. He planned to go back and clear his mind.

However, what he didn’t expect was that when he arrived at Ruth Wilcox’s villa, even before he entered the grounds, he saw that the lights were on inside.

At the same time, when the people inside the villa saw a vehicle approaching, two individuals simultaneously stepped out—two women—and stood at the main gate.

One was a woman in her forties with short hair, looking quite capable. The other was in her twenties, also with short hair, wearing leather boots, looking like a Western cowgirl!

Yusuf Zuck drove into the courtyard and shut off the car when it came to a stop; his phone conveniently rang right then. It was a call from Mia.

He answered the call and looked towards the living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

Mia was curled up on the sofa wearing a nightgown, sipping juice. She seemed to notice Yusuf Zuck looking at her, so she waved her arm to greet him.

As the call connected, Yusuf Zuck asked, "What’s the deal?"

"The deal’s with them. My cousin hired these bodyguards for me. They’re untested, and I want you to vet them. If they can spar with you without losing, I’ll keep them. If they’re like the last bodyguards, then they can go. Of course, it’s not free vetting, oh, there’s a surprise regarding little Ruth. If you don’t help, then never mind, oops, gotta hang up!" Without giving Yusuf Zuck a chance to speak, the young lady knew that only by mentioning Ruth Wilcox could she persuade him, so she threw out the bait.

Yusuf Zuck stared dumbfounded at the phone and gritted his teeth in anger. This woman needs to be dealt with!
