Chapter 1310: Chapter 1309: Berger Family

"Why did Thunderbolt Beads only save you?" After the shock had passed, while Hall Leader Ian Berger was still contemplating, the newly-appointed Deputy Hall Leader Nolan Berger looked towards Yusuf Zuck and raised his doubts!

"He wants to take me as his disciple!" Yusuf Zuck spoke with startling directness, coldly staring at Nolan Berger.

"What?"

"Uh..."

Now it was Nolan Berger’s turn to be greatly taken aback. Thunderbolt Beads wanted to take Gael Berger as a disciple? How could that be?

Gael Berger was just from a collateral branch of the Berger family, not even worth mentioning as an illegitimate member, and over the years, Gael Berger was never considered a particularly gifted individual. Yet now Gael Berger claimed that Thunderbolt Beads wanted to take him as a disciple?

How could this be?

"Hmph!" Nolan Berger was the first to speak again, starting with a sneer: "What a tall tale, thinking that since even the Clan Leader can’t verify it, you could say whatever you want, right?"

"Gael Berger, we now suspect you of colluding with the bandits of the Virtuous Mountain Range!"

"Bam!" Nolan Berger started to make his move, slamming his hand down on the armrest. He had no choice but to take action because by blocking Gael Berger’s path, he had surely sown enmity. Therefore, while Gael Berger was spouting madness and weaving grand lies, he seized the opportunity to pin the crime on him and destroy his Cultivation Level.

Indeed, there were several charges against Gael Berger. Firstly, he was the leader of the expedition, and while all of his teammates died, he was the only survivor, thus bearing the responsibility of leadership.

The second charge was that someone had filed a formal accusation against Gael Berger for embezzlement and accepting bribes.

The third charge was that upon his return, not only did Gael Berger fail to admit any wrongdoing, but he continued to lie, dragging Thunderbolt Beads into this. With these three charges, once filed with the Internal Affairs Hall, Gael Berger’s cultivation must be abolished, and his status crippled.

A crippled Gael Berger would pose no threat to him, being even less than a dog!

"Gael, what you said is not credible. You know who Thunderbolt Beads is, right? How could we possibly go and verify this with him?" Hall Leader Ian Berger said somberly.

"Yes, Gael, you mustn’t talk nonsense!"

"Gael, don’t be reckless!"

The two deputy hall leaders also earnestly admonished him.

"Would this count as evidence?" Yusuf Zuck, with a hint of amusement, took out the Heart of Heaven Token from Tianxin Residence, which glistened in his hand!

"Ah? The Heart of Heaven Token?"

"Uh..."

"This is indeed the authentic Heart of Heaven Token, and it’s even the Thunderbolt Heart of Heaven Token. Holding this token is as if standing before Thunderbolt Beads himself!" The hall leaders and deputy hall leaders, being worldly people, all stood up in shock at the sight of the Heart of Heaven Token.

Even Nolan Berger stood up, his face a picture of utter confusion. Gael Berger possessed the Heart of Heaven Token, which meant that what he said was true—Thunderbolt Beads truly accepted him as a disciple?

The disciple of a God Sovereign, a disciple of a High-level God Sovereign?

"Gael, you should quickly return and see your mother, I must report this matter to the Internal Halls, this is of great importance!" Ian Berger’s legs were trembling. Although he was the Leader of the External Affairs Hall, he had not even met the Clan Leader of the Berger Clan, nor had he seen more than a few God Sovereign Level individuals, let alone a High-level God Sovereign.

Therefore, he had to report such a significant event and leave the decision to those above.

In fact, he and the deputy hall leaders had all misunderstood. Although Yusuf Zuck had taken out the Heart of Heaven Token, he was not actually Thunderbolt Beads’ disciple. They hadn’t heard everything; Yusuf Zuck only mentioned that Thunderbolt Beads wanted to take him as a disciple before Nolan Berger interrupted, and then he produced the token. Therefore, both Ian Berger and Nolan Berger assumed that their Berger Clan’s outsider disciple had indeed become a disciple of Thunderbolt Beads.

Therefore, such a significant incident must be reported!

Yusuf Zuck glanced at Nolan Berger and even licked his lips slightly. Nolan Berger was one of the eight who pursued him years ago and thus was also on his must-kill list.

He needed to find an opportunity to finish off Nolan Berger.

Back then, he had been in a sorry state, facing the eight of them like a homeless cur, but now, he was fully capable of wiping out those eight bastards.

Even though they too were growing at an astonishingly rapid pace, their growth speed was still no match for Yusuf Zuck’s. They were destined to become stepping stones for him!

Nolan Berger, noticing the fierce and murderous look in Yusuf Zuck’s eyes, couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows and then sneer disdainfully as Yusuf Zuck turned to leave.

He was of the Berger family’s direct line, with the purest bloodline. Although he wasn’t the direct heir tasked with taking over the Clan’s major duties, like the eldest son or grandson, he was still part of the inner sect.

The inner and outer sects of the Berger family were distinctly separated.

He didn’t believe that Gael Berger would dare lay a hand on him, nor did he think Gael Berger was a match for him, so his face was filled with a mocking and playful look.

Yusuf Zuck turned and strode away from the External Affairs Hall, and Aaron Berger, who was standing guard outside, immediately followed.

"Who reported me?" Yusuf Zuck asked as they walked.

"It might be the fifth brother," Aaron Berger replied.

Gael Berger was a significant figure in the External Affairs Hall, with a plethora of subordinates under him. These people were akin to his younger brothers, following his orders. Aaron Berger was one of them, so was the fifth brother, and a few others who also heeded his commands.

"Got it," Yusuf Zuck nodded. "You stay here. The Internal Affairs Hall might summon me later; inform me when they do."

"Ah..." Aaron Berger opened his mouth, then nodded repeatedly.

Aaron Berger was also at the God-level, albeit a Lower Heavenly God. He looked like a typical shop assistant, came from a poor family, and was marginalized within the Berger’s Mansion. For many years, it had been Gael Berger supporting him, occasionally allowing him to make some extra money, or else he wouldn’t have been able to survive.

Because of Gael Berger’s care, Aaron Berger was extremely loyal to him.

Having left the External Affairs Hall, Yusuf Zuck walked for nearly two hours before reaching a residential area in the Northeast corner of the city, which was mostly inhabited by the Berger family members.

Gael Berger’s residence was in this area, a large compound with two entrances. Only two people lived in the courtyard: Gael Berger’s mother and an old maid by her side.

Gael Berger had lost his father in childhood and was raised by his mother. Yusuf Zuck realized from Gael Berger’s memories that Gael Berger’s mother was not only extraordinary but also mysterious. Gael Berger knew only that his mother’s surname was Dickson, named Alicia Dickson, but as for where she came from, he had no idea.

Moreover, she could converse with those from the inner sect of the Berger family.

As Yusuf Zuck approached Gael Berger’s home, from a distance, he saw a slender young woman standing outside the gate. She looked to be around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, dressed in plain clothes, without makeup, yet unequivocally a beauty with a graceful figure. What struck Yusuf Zuck was that he couldn’t discern the woman’s Cultivation Level.

Even Gael Berger didn’t know his mother’s exact Cultivation Level.

The old maid beside her, however, was a stout old woman with unusually large feet, full of vigor, and lively spirit. At a glance, Yusuf Zuck recognized that the old maid was at the High-level God King realm.

Alicia Dickson exuded an air of dignified grace and an imposing presence without showing anger. Her face was expressionless, as calm as still water.

Yusuf Zuck knelt down; although Gael Berger wasn’t much impressive, he was nevertheless a great filial son.

"It’s good that you’re back, it’s good that you’re back!" Alicia Dickson, well taken care of, nodded slightly towards Yusuf Zuck and then said, "I’m already aware of the incident at the External Affairs Hall. Come in and talk to me in the inner hall; I have questions for you!"
