Invisible Security Guard
Chapter 131: The Mischevious Ember Vance

Chapter 131: Chapter 131: The Mischevious Ember Vance

While Felix Zuck from Yanggu County was returning home to drink, Yusuf Zuck at the Ruiz Family’s residence was also clicking his tongue in amazement. Jerome Hart and his grandfather had come to the capital to provide medical treatment for someone, and they were even brought in by a military aircraft. Yusuf had long noticed that Jerome Hart was no ordinary individual, and if he was extraordinary, then his grandfather must be even more remarkable.

"Well, speaking of the patient, I wonder how the sports car driver from last night is doing, whether they’ve found his family or not. After finishing the conversation with the renovation team, I should go to the hospital to check on him." Yusuf had been busy all day and had forgotten about the person he had saved last night. He didn’t know whether the man had undergone surgery or if his family had been located.

...

While Yusuf was waiting for the renovation team at the new store, there was a community on Garden Road where a community police station was located.

Ember Vance, who could be said to have grown up within the system, was very clear about all the rules and regulations within it.

She knew that if she took Bud Trujillo back to the station, many people would come to plead for him, even the division chief, even her second uncle would come to find her.

So after taking Bud to the hospital for a urine test, she made a detour to the community police station and turned off all mobile phones, including her own.

Interrogating in a different location, she wanted to pry open Bud’s mouth in the shortest amount of time and obtain some of his criminal evidence. Even if there were people coming to intercede for him later, as long as she presented Bud’s criminal evidence, who would dare to plead on his behalf?

Times are not like the early years when communication and networks were underdeveloped; people could get away with shady actions without anyone noticing. Leaders could wave off a sentence with a single word, even release murderers.

Not anymore. The networks are too developed, and the legal system is becoming more and more sound. For the sake of their official hats, those within the system dare not easily pull strings for someone. If the matter is exposed on the internet and public opinion arises, everyone would be trembling with fear.

That is why she urgently needed evidence. With solid proof, there would be fewer people willing to plead for Bud.

Although Bud Trujillo had some influence within the city, he was a child of wealth and privilege, so Ember used a combination of yelling and intimidation, along with some high-wattage spotlighting, and by denying him water and food, he quickly caved and started answering any questions she asked.

Ember was smart; she knew that charges like fighting wouldn’t really affect Bud, so she dug deeper for other criminal evidence, such as illegal possession of firearms and the source of drugs.

Two hours later, when she had almost finished her questioning, Ember shifted her tone, "Did you lead people to Fengdu and attack the security guards there?" In fact, to her, this was the true crux of the matter, although Bud was kept in the dark about it.

In Bud’s eyes, fighting security guards was trivial, not worth mentioning, but because of this trivial matter, he was detained by the furious Ember Vance!

Bud was stunned for a moment but then confessed truthfully, "Yes, it was me who led the attack. But I had a reason. Look at my face; the swelling hasn’t gone down yet. It was a Fengdu security guard who hit me, so I went to hit them back..." Bud said with a look of grievance in his eyes.

"I didn’t ask who hit you. It was you who attacked the Fengdu security guards, right? Well, the case is closed. Organize the interrogation records, the audio, and video recordings; give them to me. I’ll review them first!" From the start of the interrogation to its conclusion, it took less than two hours, and before 7 o’clock in the evening, Bud had been successfully taken into custody by her.

"Hmm, give him a boxed meal and some mineral water," Ember said with a smile hanging at the corner of her mouth, glancing at the eggless Bud.

You had the nerve to mess with Yusuf, to cause him trouble, I’ll make sure you pay dearly!

...

While Ember Vance was interrogating Bud Trujillo, several departments in the capital were in chaos. Bud had powerful backing, his elders were highly connected individuals, so when word got out that their son had been forcibly taken from his company, they immediately used their connections to reach the city bureau, which in turn contacted Chief Dragon at the division.

"Bud Trujillo? Son of...? Nope, I have no idea. Garden Road police station? Alright, alright, I’ll call them now and have them release him immediately!" Sweat formed on Chief Dragon’s forehead. He dared not speak the Trujillo name, as they were forceful enough to crush him. Yet now, someone in his own ranks had detained the son of such an influential figure?

’Big shot Trujillo’ hadn’t assigned any blame, merely making a call to express concern. He even said that if there was any criminal behavior, it should definitely not be covered up, speaking righteously.

However, though they spoke in such a way, what could they really be thinking inside? After all, it was their own son!

Chief Dragon called the Garden Road police station, first looking for the old station chief, Chief Liu, but was informed that Liu was at the hospital. He then tried to reach Chief Sun, only to be told that he was out working on a case.

As for Chief Ember Vance, hadn’t she just recently arrived? He wanted to ask if she knew about this.

But Ember was also out, working on a case.

Chief Dragon was so enraged that he nearly smashed his phone but managed to contain his anger. He decided to call Chief Liu; after all, Chief Liu was still in charge and had not retired yet, meaning his word was still final.

Chief Liu was indeed at the hospital, suffering from a bout of high blood pressure. Even Ember starting her term didn’t prompt him to come in, as he was receiving IV treatment.

Receiving the order from Chief Dragon, Chief Liu didn’t care whether he was sick or not; he was berated on the phone for not informing the division about the arrest of Bud. Chief Liu could only admit his mistake over the phone and claim to call immediately to understand the situation!

Yes, to understand the situation, because he was about to retire and being an old hand, he wouldn’t decide to release someone without knowing the full context.

However, after making several phone calls, Chief Liu was dumbfounded because all the other leaders in the station had turned off their phones.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Chief Liu immediately reported back to Chief Dragon, who also sensed something was amiss. They agreed to meet and head to the police station from different directions.

At 7 p.m., just as Ember Vance finished interrogating Bud Trujillo, Director Long of the sub-bureau, Director Zhou, and a deputy director from the city bureau had all gathered at the Garden Road police station.

However, except for a few on-duty officers, everyone else who had gone out on cases had turned off their phones. After a careful inquiry, Director Long nearly burst with anger, discovering that it was the newly appointed Ember Vance, the head of the station, who led the team on the pretense of making an arrest. Who they were out to catch, though, the colleagues left behind at the station did not know.

"Ember Vance, you’ve really got some nerve, a lot of nerve!" Director Long realized that after Ember had arrested Bud Trujillo, she detained him elsewhere and switched off her phone, likely not wanting to answer his calls or follow his orders.

That cunning girl, she must have known Bud Trujillo’s identity!

In a moment of respite, Director Long made a phone call to Minister Assistant Ace Vance. After recounting the events,

Assistant Ace Vance happened to be Ember’s second uncle, his given name being Ace Vance—a fairly upright individual. After listening to the detailed account, he offered no opinion, stating that this was a matter for their sub-bureau and that they should handle it themselves.

Besides, the Trujillo Family had not sought him out yet. Since they hadn’t, he was going to pretend to be unaware.

Director Long felt helpless; the responsibility was his to bear, and he had a bad feeling about it. What if Bud Trujillo really had committed a crime? Could he release him? That would mean offending "Bigwig Trujillo."

Release him? Letting a criminal go after they’ve committed a crime would be knowingly breaking the law, a crime in itself, subject to a harsher sentence. With the current crackdown on corruption, if this got out, not only would he lose his position, but he might also end up in jail.

So Director Long was in quite a bind and cursed Ember Vance’s ancestors for making such a decision — bringing her here to be the station head was bound to court trouble.

While Director Long was caught in a dilemma and was about to find an excuse to slip away and covertly monitor the situation, a small official car from the capital drove into the Garden Road police station.

’Bigwig Trujillo’ had finished work and came to visit the frontline officers for a morale boost and also to get an update on the case!

Bigwig Trujillo, whose real name was Fred Trujillo and was over fifty with a slightly balding head, had the air of a well-off man. After getting out of the car and shaking hands with each of the leaders, he entered the station’s small conference room with everyone else.

"Don’t feel burdened, everyone. I’m just here to understand the situation; I’ve always said that if Bud Trujillo breaks the law or discipline, he should be arrested and sentenced accordingly. Because of me, there should be no indulgence or protection. Even if you wanted to cover for him, I wouldn’t allow it."

"I’ve heard that Comrade Ember Vance led the team this time? She sounds like a capable comrade; I’m also aware of her achievements in subduing the four robbers. Such a heroine among women should definitely be nurtured. The Vance daughter’s spirit is as strong as any man’s, hahaha." Fred Trujillo spoke with officious righteousness followed by a hearty laugh. On his way here, he had already learned the details of the incident: It was Ember Vance, the niece of Minister Assistant Ace Vance, who had taken his son into custody.

However, speaking of which, he knew Ace Vance, and there were no grudges between them, so the fact that Ember had arrested his son felt very fishy to him.

"Knock, knock, knock~" Just then, the conference room door was knocked upon, and a young female officer from the station entered nervously, saying, "Leaders, Officer Vance has returned!"

"She’s back?" Upon hearing that Ember Vance had returned, Director Long instantly stood up, his expression sinking as he said, "Tell her to run over here immediately!"

"Yes, sir." The young officer saluted and then turned to leave.

After about a few dozen seconds, the quiet conference room was filled with the sound of footsteps from the hallway, the crisp and loud tapping of leather shoes on the floor.

The knocking sounded again, and upon a signal, a figure in uniform, radiating a valiant grace that left some of the older men breathless, entered.

Ember Vance saluted the assembly and announced loudly, "Reporting to all leaders, Officer Ember Vance, reporting in!"

Fred Trujillo smiled faintly, knowing this was not his home turf, so he decided not to speak, just to listen.

Seeing that Fred Trujillo had no intention to speak, Director Long sternly asked, "Ember Vance, what’s going on? What’s with Bud Trujillo?"

"Reporting, Director, I have evidence of Bud Trujillo’s illegal activities, as well as his confession and the evidence found in his office," she said.

"Whoosh~" Ember Vance poured out from a bag onto the table items such as a handgun, crystal meth, a lab report, drug paraphernalia, videos, recordings, written records, and more.

As everyone stared in surprise at the items on the table, Ember Vance began to speak, "Last night, a foreign-invested enterprise in our district was provoked by a group of unidentified social elements who injured five security guards severely, with broken arms, legs, and ribs."

"Given that it was a foreign-invested enterprise, the seriousness of the case was grave, so upon receiving information today that Bud Trujillo led these social loafers yesterday, we located him at the New World Cinema Company and found a military handgun in his office, with thirteen bullets, twenty grams of crystal meth, and various drug-taking tools. We then took Bud Trujillo away and, after testing at the hospital, the lab report showed positive for crystal meth in his urine test."

"To avoid alarming others, we took Bud Trujillo to the community police office, and he confessed to leading social loafers in fights and brawls. The gun in his office was purchased by him; he also used drugs and has been involved in organized criminal activities for several years. The case is complex and significant, involving arms trafficking and drug dealing. I was about to report to the sub-bureau, Director Long—Bud Trujillo has already been taken to the sub-bureau for detention!"

"What?" Upon hearing Ember Vance’s words, Director Long nearly choked on his own breath. This cunning Ember Vance had sent Bud Trujillo to his sub-bureau? She had played a very clever move.

"Hmph, severe punishment is a must, to eradicate these social tumors!"

With a loud "bang," Fred Trujillo slammed the table, stood up furiously, turned, and stormed out!
