Chapter 1241: Chapter 1240: My Name Is Guang Gāng Gāng

In God’s Edge State, there was a desolate wasteland that seemed scorched by fire long ago, leaving the ground barren without a blade of grass, surrounded by desolate rocks and hills—a place of utter desolation.

And at one corner of the Border State, there was a towering rock mountain at the base of which lay a camp. This camp hosted a force of roughly a thousand Divine Weapons.

Yusuf Zuck and some thirty others were brought into this camp, where they received their tasks for the next thirty thousand years.

What was the task, you ask? There were tunnels inside the mountain, which led down to many corridors, and at the deepest parts of these corridors lay scattered Spirit Stones!

Of course, Spirit Stones weren’t simply lying around to be picked up; they needed to be mined, an affair even more exhausting than coal mining, because one had to keep digging forward and searching for Spirit Stones in the unearthed dirt. The quota was one per person per day, to be handed in every three days!

Furthermore, before they descended into the tunnels, all personal belongings were confiscated: Space Rings, Qiankun Bags, Space Bracelets or belts, and so on—everything was searched thoroughly, down to changing their clothes for those of slaves. Then they were given a shovel and a basket, and sent straight to work!

As for food?

None!

Drinks?

Also none!

Because divine beings don’t die of hunger; they wouldn’t perish even without a drop of water or a bite of food for thirty thousand years. Of course, they might die of exhaustion, but definitely not of starvation!

It was only when Yusuf Zuck entered the tunnel that he realized the slaves in this camp were not limited to their group of thirty or so, because the tunnels were packed with people dressed in slave garments.

Yusuf guessed there could be tens or even hundreds of thousands of people beneath the surface, toiling away mining stones for others!

He didn’t resist or cause trouble yet, for he truly was unfamiliar with this place. So, even if he were to cause trouble, he decided to wait until he knew his surroundings better.

Plus, he noticed that each Divine Weapon here had an aura that made his heart tremble, a presence far stronger than his by tenfold or a hundredfold.

Perhaps those Divine Weapons were not inherently strong, but they were still much stronger than those like him who had just Ascended.

The Great Emperors who Ascended with him had long since stopped making noise, having resigned themselves to their fate. Of course, they deeply regretted their decision; if they had known the Heavenly Realm was like this, who the hell would’ve practiced cultivation? Who the hell would’ve sought Ascension? To Ascend just to become slaves for others?

So, it’s safe to say that among them all, aside from Yusuf Zuck, the rest were filled with regret and resentment.

He and Alden Baxter, the Great Emperor, were assigned to a group together, and a so-called ’group’ consisted of ten people—nine newcomers and one old slave in charge of supervising them and collecting the Spirit Stones.

The old slave didn’t need to work; they simply patrolled the corridors every day, looking for any slackers or those with problematic thoughts, engaging in re-education work or administering beatings as necessary.

Yusuf was assigned to a solitary branch corridor with the instruction to dig forward any way he could, as long as he could find Spirit Stones—and absolutely no hoarding. Although the expectation was to submit one per day, one could rest the following day if two stones were submitted instead. If one failed to submit any within three days, a discussion was in order, with a three-day extension.

One could delay up to three times, and if no Spirit Stone was submitted within nine days, the group leader would beat you half to death and then drag you to the surface camp for a public beheading!

Yes, there were public beheadings here—an executioner’s blade would drop, and a head would roll, resulting in certain death for a divine being once their head was separated from their body.

"What’s your name? Register your name!" While Yusuf sat spacing out in the corridor, the group leader arrived, wearing shackles but with an air of grandeur as if a person of great importance.

"My name is Clang-clang!" Yusuf blurted out carelessly.

"Pfft, What kind of name is that?" The group leader rolled his eyes in disbelief. The Lower Realm really did have all sorts of ridiculous names. Of course, he forgot that he came from the Lower Realm as well, albeit a bit longer ago than the rest!

"My surname is Clang, and ’clang-clang’ represents the sound of drums. My family are drummers!"

"Alright then, Clang-clang, I want to ask you—" the group leader started but then stopped, grumbling irritably, "Damn it, what a bothersome name! Just talking to you is annoying!"

"Wealthy sir, if I can be of help, just ask!" Yusuf responded respectfully.

"Do you plan to submit stones every three days or every day?" the group leader asked.

"I’ll submit every three days," Yusuf answered.

"Then get to work!" The group leader was about to leave, but at that moment, Yusuf suddenly inquired, "Respected sir, may I ask what the ranks of divine beings are?"

"Heh, you’re in such a hurry to find out?" The group leader chuckled, "It’s good that you’re eager to learn—it shows you’ve got ambition. But even if you want to know, I’m not inclined to tell you. What can you do about it?"

Yusuf was momentarily left speechless.

"Get back to work. No more pointless chatting and asking about ranks. I’ve been here for over twenty thousand years and I’m still a slave! Whether I can even survive to get out is a question in itself, and you’re here prattling about ranks—damn!" The group leader cursed and stormed off.

"Curse your ancestors!" Yusuf cursed under his breath, then flopped down again, attempting to use Telekinesis to probe beneath the surface.

However, what shocked him was that Telekinesis couldn’t be used in the depths of this divine realm.

"No wonder they have to mine Spirit Stones—so Telekinesis doesn’t work underground in the divine realm!" Yusuf frowned. He was well aware of how strong his own telekinesis was, so if even his powers were unusable, then it was likely that the real divine beings couldn’t probe the depths either.

"I remember picking up quite a few Spirit Stones back in the Main God Palace!" Yusuf recalled that in the second layer of the Main God Palace, he had picked up a few and later discovered many more in the rings he took from divine bones. Some of the Spirit Stones he had absorbed, but he also left a good portion behind.

He rummaged through a few rings from his Blue Sea and Cloud Sky and eventually came across about a million or so!

That’s right, nearly a million, and that’s after he absorbed ninety-nine percent of them using the Eye of Heaven. Had he not absorbed any, there might’ve been several hundred million!

Of course, to ensure the Spirit Stones from this mine were the same as those in his rings, he began to mine so he could compare one.

"Damn, am I that lucky?" The very first scoop into the ground unearthed a Spirit Stone—purple, shiny, square-shaped, about the size of the stinky tofu he used to eat back in his mortal days, and all of the same standard size!

"Yep, they’re the same!" Having compared them to the stones in his rings, Yusuf’s anxious mind was put at ease. Since they were of the same standard, he wouldn’t have to worry about meeting his quota of Spirit Stones anymore.

"Also, I have to bribe that group leader. Otherwise, he won’t tell me anything," Yusuf, naturally mischievous, would definitely bribe others if it benefitted him. If it were Hugh Zuck instead, he probably would never stoop to bribery, but Yusuf Zuck—if there was something in it for him, he was willing to do just about anything!
