Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Her Dream Every Night

Miles O’Brien never expected that after Yusuf Zuck had a look around, he would decide to rent the place. And what would be the consequences of renting this place? It was very likely someone could die a violent death.

So, she didn’t draft any agreement with the young man but dragged Yusuf Zuck outside instead.

"I don’t agree to rent it, not for any reason," Miles O’Brien said, not for anything else but because she was afraid that Yusuf Zuck might one day die a violent death.

"Just listen to me, it’ll be fine," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile. "Do as I say, and we could make a fortune."

"What’s the use of making all that money," Miles O’Brien urged in desperation.

"I know a master who can break the bad feng shui here, so don’t worry. I’ll call the master to come over, and this place won’t affect us negatively. Instead, it will bring us smooth sailing," Yusuf Zuck didn’t give Miles O’Brien a chance to argue and returned to the shop.

Miles O’Brien stomped her foot in frustration but was helpless to change anything. She had realized that Yusuf Zuck was incredibly stubborn and wouldn’t listen to advice.

The young man in the shop, Ray Escobar, was the Escober Family’s second son. After Yusuf Zuck had a brief understanding of the situation, he had Miles O’Brien notify Ray Escobar’s mother and his siblings to come over and sign the contract as a precaution.

The house wasn’t private property but public property of the Ruiz Market Management Department. The Escober Family had rented it for five years and had three years left, so they could only sublet it for three years. If Yusuf Zuck wanted to rent it again after that, he would have to go through the market management.

After a busy morning, when all the members of the Escober Family, young and old, had come to sign, Yusuf Zuck finally relaxed. Miles O’Brien and Ray Escobar then went to the bank to transfer the money, and Yusuf Zuck informed Miles O’Brien that he would return in the afternoon since he had something to do at noon.

Yusuf Zuck took the keys to the shop, locked up after everyone left, and then found a general store where he spent a hundred yuan to buy a feng shui compass.

This thing was used for fortune-telling and feng shui, and he wasn’t really sure about the magnetic fields inside, nor was he interested in understanding them. Instead, he planned to use it to fool people.

At eleven o’clock sharp, Yusuf Zuck left Ruiz Market and immediately turned on his phone. He was afraid someone might be looking for him, so if an unknown number called, he could simply not answer.

After turning on the phone, he called Samuel Ross.

"Have you eaten yet, Yusuf Zuck? I’m having Peking duck with Pillar and Xiaowei. Pillar quit his job too; now, the three of us have nothing to do," Samuel Ross laughed as the call connected, indicating they were ready to stick with Yusuf Zuck.

"You guys eat. But in the afternoon, you should go to the farmers’ market and buy some shovels and other tools for moving soil."

"Oh," Samuel Ross responded. "Okay, we will buy them after lunch." He didn’t ask what for.

"And also buy a few powerful flashlights and burlap sacks. Make sure the flashlights are bright," Yusuf Zuck hung up after giving the instructions. After pondering for a moment, he called Miles O’Brien.

"Louise, after you finish transferring the money, could you do me a small favor?" Yusuf Zuck said. "I remember that in the Ruiz Market’s craft store, they sell statues of Guan Er-ye. Could you buy me a big one?"

"You still believe in that stuff?" Miles O’Brien said incredulously.

"Yeah, I believe," Yusuf Zuck said with a laugh. "Guan Er-ye is both the God of Wealth and able to suppress and drive away evil spirits in the folk belief. Just buy it for me!"

"Demons? What do you mean?" Miles O’Brien’s curiosity was piqued, wondering if the shop was haunted.

"I’m just saying, there are no demons. But when I was leaving Ruiz Market earlier, I saw a piece of jade, red in color, blood red and different from other jades. It felt chillingly cold and rather unnerving to look at. Do you know anything about this jade?"

"Blood Jade from a yin house, I’ve heard a little about it. Did you buy it?" Miles O’Brien asked, puzzled.

"No, it made me feel uncomfortable, so I didn’t buy it," Yusuf Zuck said. "I was just asking."

"Don’t buy it, whatever you do. That Blood Jade is mostly funeral objects from a grave. Its red color comes from the tomb’s owner being buried alive, and ultimately the owner’s blood stained the jade red, giving it its malevolent nature. Of course, that’s just what I’ve heard; I’m not sure about the specifics," Miles O’Brien cautioned.

"Oh, I see," Yusuf Zuck said, feigning sudden realization, wondering how the jade could emanate such powerful Evil Qi—no wonder it was filled with resentment.

Jade has a spirit, jade has a spirit, and perhaps the tomb owner’s vengeful spirit entered the jade, which is why it had become so malevolent.

"This is not good. If there really are demons or ghosts, not only will I be in danger, but Samuel Ross, Xiaowei, and the others too," Yusuf Zuck quickly made up his mind. He couldn’t proceed tonight; he had to find a master who could break this sort of jinxed jade. Otherwise, if they dug it up and something happened, it would be terrible.

"Right, Louise Garrett, there’s something else. When you’re back with boss He, ask him if he knows any Feng Shui masters or Yin Yang exorcists," said Bud Trujillo.

"Didn’t you say you knew someone?" Miles O’Brien retorted.

"The person I know is in my hometown, not in the capital; it would take some time to come over," Yusuf Zuck lied.

"Oh, then I’ll go back and ask for you." They hung up the phone, and Yusuf Zuck hurried towards the Chaoyang precinct.

At eleven forty-five, Yusuf Zuck finally arrived at the corner near the Chaoyang precinct, where Ember Vance, in plain clothes, had been waiting for quite a while.

As Yusuf Zuck drove the white Range Rover over, she didn’t realize it was his, so she stepped aside to let it pass.

However, when Yusuf Zuck rolled down the window and flashed her a grin, she was stunned. How did this little ruffian end up driving a Range Rover?

"Whose car is this?" Ember Vance didn’t beat around the bush and directly sat in the passenger’s seat.

"Bought it yesterday," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile. "Where to?"

"You bought it?" Ember Vance looked at Yusuf Zuck in surprise, "Or did your boss buy it for you as a new perk?"

"Of course, I bought it myself; my boss has already gone back to the United States," Yusuf Zuck said with a wry smile.

"Then you... then you..." Ember Vance was completely flabbergasted. If she remembered correctly, it had just been a little over a month since Yusuf Zuck came to the capital, and wasn’t he just a security guard or a driver before? How could he afford a Range Rover worth over a million in just a few days?

"Made some money," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile. "In the capital, gold is everywhere. You just need to bend down to pick it up, so getting rich isn’t hard."

"Oh, then pull over and let me pick up some gold. I want to get rich too," Ember Vance said sarcastically.

"Cough cough, you can’t pick it up now. But thanks for today, what do you want to eat?" Yusuf Zuck asked.

"Don’t go too far, I have to head back before my afternoon shift. I wanted to remind you that Bud Trujillo is not someone to mess with; you’ve gotten yourself into big trouble. When we get to the restaurant, I’ll tell you all about Bud Trujillo’s background," she said.

"Okay, thanks. But... why are you telling me all this?" Yusuf Zuck was full of question marks. Logically, Ember Vance should hate him, yet she was offering to help him find a job last time, and this time she was volunteering to tip him off—was she too kind-hearted?

Ember Vance rolled her eyes: "Can’t I just want to do this?"

"Sure, sure, I’m not saying you can’t, thank you. You are kind-hearted; good people get good rewards!" Yusuf Zuck told her.

Ember Vance’s face turned red. In fact, she was perplexed herself. Why had she asked him out? Why did she want to tell him who Bud Trujillo was?

Was it because she hadn’t managed to touch him last time? Was it because she’d been dreaming of his waving hand, his forlorn and lonely figure?

She admitted that one night, watching his lonely, melancholic, and carefree figure, this small-time hooligan from out of town had moved her.

Perhaps it was also because of various discomforts she felt in her body every time she woke up at night.

She had dreamt many times of his hands.

"Stop buttering me up, and there’s something else I wanted to ask you," Ember Vance said as her face flushed and her heartbeat quickened to change the subject: "How did you steal my gun last time? Have you been tailing me before?"

"Secret, not telling you," Yusuf Zuck said with a smug look.
