Chapter 789: Chapter 785: Visiting Old Master Li
Ye Fan told Tantai Wanrong that he planned to make a move against Wang Hongsheng, and Tantai Wanrong subconsciously asked, “Is he harmful to you?”
“No,” Ye Fan said, “it was his son who once harmed me. I plan to retaliate against his son, Wang Kaichen, and Wang Hongsheng will certainly not stand idly by. When the younger is hit, the elder will surely jump out. Since we have made enemies, it’s better to uproot them completely to avoid endless troubles.”
“How do you plan to deal with Wang Hongsheng?” Tantai Wanrong asked.
Ye Fan smiled faintly and said, “Isn’t he just two or three years away from retiring? I’m going to make him retire today.”
Being forced to retire early and retiring at the end of one’s term are two different things. Being forced to retire early usually means that one has made a mistake and is pulled down from office, basically losing all influence, while retiring at the end of one’s term often allows one to linger in the political advisory body for another two or three years, and although one’s network of contacts and resources are not as strong as before, there is still some residual influence.
“Alright. I’ll go back and think about how I can help you,” Tantai Wanrong said, “You must have some dirt on him, right?”
Ye Fan smiled and said, “Thank you, Aunt Wanrong, but I can handle this myself. I arranged to meet with you just to let you know in advance, and then figure out how to benefit from the situation.”
“As for the dirt on Wang Hongsheng, I’ve made a copy.” Saying this, he took out a USB drive and handed it to Tantai Wanrong.
Political struggles can easily trigger a chain reaction, and although Tantai Wanrong could help, how could Ye Fan let Tantai Wanrong take a risk?
Tantai Wanrong took the USB drive and said, “Be careful yourself. Wang Hongsheng isn’t alone.”
She knew that Ye Fan had strong backing, and she didn’t doubt that Ye Fan meant to go against Wang Hongsheng.
“Heh, of course I know,” Ye Fan said with a smile.
After a few more words, the two finally completed the purpose of their meeting that night.
Next, Tantai Wanrong stood up and said, “Xiao Fan, walk with me here a little.”
“Sure,” Ye Fan said with a smile, standing up and then walking and chatting with Tantai Wanrong.
At nine-thirty, Tantai Wanrong had to leave to pick up Qin Mengyao, so she reluctantly halted her walk and chat with Ye Fan.
In the following two or three days, Ye Fan, having been invited, met separately with Zhao Tianya and Dongfang Yunqi for a meal. Besides that, he also attended Qin Mengyao’s party celebrating her smooth completion of the college entrance examination.
According to Meng Yao, the college entrance exam went very well, and staying in Hua Hai City to attend a first-class university was no problem, and she was looking quite proud.
At the celebration party, Tian Ya directly rewarded Meng Yao with a bank card, sponsoring her national travels during the summer vacation.
Ye Fan also prepared a gift in advance and gave it to Meng Yao.
Before he was to leave Hua Hai City for a job in Mingde County, Ye Fan visited Li Zhaojun once more at the Imperial Forest Bay villa complex.
Li Zhaojun still had an air of supreme detachment, focussing almost exclusively on her cultivation.
As for Qing Lian, she wasn’t there, as she actually hadn’t personally supervised Li Zhaojun’s cultivation in Hua Hai City since Zhao Jun reached a certain level in her practice.
Ye Fan sighed inwardly and said, “Zhao Jun, let’s go visit Grandpa.”
He guessed that it had been a while since Li Zhaojun visited Old Master Li.
“Grandpa?” A faint ripple appeared in Li Zhaojun’s indifferent eyes.
“Yes, Grandpa,” Ye Fan said emphatically. “We should go visit Grandpa. He’s the family member you love and are closest to. He’s very lonely by himself and needs us to visit him often.”
“Yes, I should visit Grandpa,” Zhao Jun said.
Ye Fan reached out and took hold of Li Zhaojun’s cold hand and said, “Let’s go see Grandpa right now.”
Her jade hand was grasped by Ye Fan, and Li Zhaojun subconsciously wanted to shake it off, but Ye Fan held it tightly, his eyes meeting Li Zhaojun’s. Finally, Li Zhaojun stopped trying to shake off Ye Fan’s hand.
Together, Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun drove to visit Elder Li.
Ye Fan drove with Li Zhaojun seated in the passenger seat, but the two did not converse much on the road.
They parked the car in front of the red-walled mansion and then walked together towards the building.
As they ascended to the second-floor corridor and turned toward Elder Li’s residence, Ye Fan reached out to hold Li Zhaojun’s jade hand.
Upon feeling Li Zhaojun’s icy jade hand, Ye Fan noticed it immediately tensing up. Just when he thought Li Zhaojun would shake off his grip as she had at the villa, her cold hand relaxed, became bonelessly soft, and allowed him to hold it.
Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief; at least it showed that Elder Li still had an influence on the current Li Zhaojun.
Upon reaching Elder Li’s residence, they looked into the living room and didn’t see Elder Li but instead saw Liu Tiezhu with his graying hair.
Upon catching sight of Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun, Liu Tiezhu immediately became excitedly joyful and called out, “Zhao Jun! Ye Fan! You’re here! Hurry, hurry, come inside.”
“Ha ha, Grandpa Liu,” said Ye Fan with a smile as he pulled Li Zhaojun by her jade hand into the house, greeting Liu Tiezhu.
Though Li Zhaojun’s expression remained indifferent, she too greeted him with a “Grandpa Liu.”
“You two sit down first; I’ll go check if the old chief has awoken,” Liu Tiezhu said before hurriedly turning to enter Elder Li’s bedroom.
Ye Fan, noticing Liu Tiezhu’s joy, guessed that Li Zhaojun might not have visited Elder Li for some time.
“Let’s go in and see Grandpa,” Ye Fan suggested, leading Li Zhaojun towards Elder Li’s bedroom.
Entering the bedroom, Ye Fan saw Elder Li was still sleeping, while Liu Tiezhu hesitated whether to awaken him.
Ye Fan approached and whispered in Liu Tiezhu’s ear, “Grandpa Liu, Zhao Jun and I will stay here to watch Grandpa for a while. You can go ahead with your business.”
“Okay,” Liu Tiezhu nodded.
Then he turned to move chairs to the front of the bed to accommodate Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun.
Ye Fan naturally offered to help move a chair.
“That’s okay, you can go on with your business. Zhao Jun and I would like to quietly stay with Grandpa for a bit,” Ye Fan told Liu Tiezhu.
Liu Tiezhu nodded and left the bedroom.
Ye Fan pulled Zhao Jun to sit by the bed.
Ever since entering the bedroom and seeing Elder Li, Li Zhaojun’s eyes hadn’t left him.
Sitting close by the bed, Li Zhaojun’s pretty face gradually became more animated.
Ye Fan kept an eye on the changes in Li Zhaojun, noting the hint of mist in her beautiful eyes and breathed a slight sigh of relief. He feared most that Li Zhaojun, upon seeing Elder Li, would show that same detached indifference she had before, which would be too heartbreaking for the old man.
He carefully observed Elder Li’s face, noticing the increased age spots and how much older he looked.
Based on his observations, if Elder Li didn’t undergo hospital procedures to prolong his life, he estimated that Elder Li had at most only two or three years left to live.
Although Ye Fan felt a sense of tragic decline for the hero, he didn’t think about forcibly trying to change anything. Death is a natural part of life. If Elder Li lived another two or three years, even though he wouldn’t reach a hundred, it would still be a ripe old age.
