Invincible Young Master in the City
Chapter 610 - 610 606 Calling for Help

610: Chapter 606: Calling for Help 610: Chapter 606: Calling for Help Back at the police station, in his own office, Ye Fan contemplated other solutions.

Exposing the issue to the media, cutting himself off from the officialdom of Mingde County, really seemed a bit extreme.

After pondering for a while, he suddenly remembered someone.

Xue Lingyu, the Director of Publicity of the county, a deputy division level ranking, and one of the Committee Members.

She was the biggest backer he could think of in Mingde County.

Although Ye Fan had only met Xue Lingyu once, she had been quite friendly toward him during that meeting.

Perhaps it was worth a try.

She might be able to help.

Operating on the principle that a dying horse should be treated as though alive, Ye Fan immediately took out his cellphone, found Xue Lingyu’s number, and dialed it.

Soon, the call connected, and Xue Lingyu’s pleasant voice came through, “Little Ye?”

“Hehe, Sister Xue, hello,” Ye Fan chuckled.

Xue Lingyu laughingly responded, “I thought you wouldn’t call me at all.

It’s been days.”

“Sister Xue, you’ve wronged me there.

I really wanted to call and chat with you, but every time I picked up the phone, thinking of how busy you must be, I didn’t dare disturb you,” Ye Fan said with an apologetic smile.

Xue Lingyu laughed, “Really?

Alright, I believe you.”

Ye Fan smiled.

“Aren’t you afraid that I might be too ‘busy with myriad duties’ and not have time for you?” Xue Lingyu joked.

Ye Fan laughed, “I was indeed a bit worried.

However, there’s something I can only turn to you for.”

“Oh, what is it?” Xue Lingyu asked with a smile, “Is it about the people you arrested last night?”

“That’s right.

It seems the news has reached your ears.”

“The matter spread first thing this morning, and not just to me,” Xue Lingyu said, “You’ve caused a big stir, stirring up the entire county.

Arresting forty or fifty people in one go…

Quite impressive.”

Ye Fan chuckled awkwardly, “So, I was hoping for your support.

This case has already reached a critical point; it can’t just be dropped now.”

Xue Lingyu pondered for a moment and said, “Personally, I don’t support making such a big scene.

You should release some of the insignificant people involved, and I’ll support your continuation of the case.”

“Sister Xue, not a single ruffian I brought into the station is innocent; they must not be shown leniency,” Ye Fan declared, “Those people might not seem to have committed serious crimes, yet they have ruined many students’ lives.

To me, this is more grievous than murder or arson.

Sister Xue, think about it—if in the future your daughter grows up, goes to school, and is forced by a group of hoodlums to be their ‘girlfriend’ and then dragged to a hotel…”

“Stop, stop!” Xue Lingyu interrupted, “I know you are full of righteous indignation and youthful energy, but managing society isn’t just about acting on impulse.

By arresting too many people at once, you’re destabilizing society, and that is unacceptable!”

“Hehe, it seems you won’t support me,” Ye Fan said with a bitter smile.

Xue Lingyu stated, “I support your efforts to clean up around the schools, but I do not approve of blowing the case out of proportion.”

“I understand, thank you, Sister Xue,” Ye Fan said, “I won’t bother you anymore, goodbye.”

After hanging up, Ye Fan shook his head self-deprecatingly; he had been too naive and fanciful.

How could someone he barely knew be expected to easily help him withstand tremendous external pressures?

Of course, Ye Fan didn’t blame Xue Lingyu.

Her help would have been a favor; her refusal was logical.

“If there’s really no other way out, I must expose it to the media,” Ye Fan thought resolutely.

Then, he left his office and headed to the interrogation room to personally supervise the progress of the questioning.

At three in the afternoon, Xu Xiangli came looking for Ye Fan.

“Commissar, I have something to report to you,” Xu Xiangli approached Ye Fan and whispered.

Ye Fan nodded and walked out of the interrogation office to the outer courtyard.

Xu Xiangli followed him.

Standing in a secluded part of the outer courtyard, Ye Fan turned and asked Xu Xiangli, “What is it?”

“Commissar, I just received news that Director Tang and Director Feng are preparing to hold a Committee meeting to discuss cleaning operations around the schools,” Xu Xiangli whispered.

Ye Fan calmly “hmm-ed” and asked, “When?”

“Don’t know,” Xu Xiangli said, “It might be around four or five o’clock, or perhaps tomorrow morning.”

“How many people know about this?” Ye Fan asked again.

“Not many people know yet; it’s still circulating through informal channels.

It feels like Director Tang and the others want to keep it confidential, perhaps not wanting you to know.”

“Hmm,” Ye Fan said, “Don’t spread the word about this; keep pushing the interrogation, we can’t let our efforts be wasted.”

“Hmm!” Xu Xiangli nodded vigorously.

Next, they returned to continue supervising the interrogation.

About half an hour later, Ye Fan’s phone suddenly rang.

Thinking it was a call from Tang Xianlong or someone from his crew, he checked and to his surprise, it was from Su Mengchen.

Ye Fan hesitated for a moment but decided to step outside to take the call.

“Professor Su, hello,” Ye Fan said upon answering.

Su Mengchen’s soft, pleasant voice came through the phone, “Ye Fan, hello.”

“Do you need something?” Ye Fan directly asked; he didn’t have much time for pleasantries.

Su Mengchen said, “Nothing urgent, just that I heard about your raid last night on the hoodlums around the schools, and it’s caused quite a stir.

Are you alright?”

“Hehe, thanks for your concern.

I’m fine,” Ye Fan said with a hint of laughter.

Su Mengchen continued, “I think what you did was quite satisfying.

I’ve long heard about the chaos in No.

3 Middle School and No.

2 Middle School, where some teachers and school leaders were attacked by bad students and hoodlums.”

Hearing this, Ye Fan felt somewhat happy; it was good to have someone’s support, even though Su Mengchen was just a teacher without any real power to back him.

“Hehe, it’s, my job,” Ye Fan said with a smile.

Su Mengchen added, “But from what I’ve heard from colleagues discussing it, it seems you arrested too many people at once and some are opposing it, wanting to stop you from proceeding.”

Ye Fan pondered for a moment then said, “That might be so.

But I will persevere to the end, I won’t quit halfway.”

“Does your director also disagree?” Su Mengchen asked.

Ye Fan smiled faintly and skillfully dodged the question, “Thanks for calling to support me.

If there’s nothing else, let’s leave it here.

I’m a bit busy at the moment.”

“Okay,” Su Mengchen said, “Keep it up!”

“Thanks, goodbye,” Ye Fan said.

After hanging up, Su Mengchen held her phone, thought for a moment, and the image of Ye Fan—tall and upright—appeared in her mind.

She bit her tender pink lower lip slightly, then reopened her phone, looked up her father’s number, and dialed out.

Quickly, the phone connected, and a hearty, robust laugh came from the other end, “Hahaha, my dear daughter, missing Daddy?”
