Chapter 212 - 212 208 Li Zhaojun Wants a Divorce

212: Chapter 208: Li Zhaojun Wants a Divorce 212: Chapter 208: Li Zhaojun Wants a Divorce Old Master Li watched Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun’s frantic acting without revealing anything.

His wrinkled and liver-spotted face broke into a smile as he said with a frail voice, “Hehe, you’ve arrived.

Come in.

Why stand at the door?”

Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun answered in unison and entered with forced smiles.

Approaching Old Master Li, Li Zhaojun let go of Ye Fan’s hand and took a step forward, kneeling in front of Old Master Li.

She took his withered hands into her own pale, delicate ones and asked, “Grandpa, how are you feeling now?”

“Hehe, same as usual.

Don’t worry too much about me,” Old Master Li said as he looked down at Li Zhaojun with eyes filled with affection, pity, and benevolence.

Then, he instructed, “Help Grandpa sit up.”

Ye Fan immediately stepped forward, helping Li Zhaojun lift him to a seated position while also raising the back of the wicker chair to make it easier for Old Master Li to lean on and exert some force.

Because he was caught acting, Ye Fan couldn’t possibly boast like last time, making extravagant claims about preparing for a child and so on.

After chatting for a while with Old Master Li, he began to show signs of fatigue, needing rest, maybe because he had already been sitting there for a good while before Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun arrived.

Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun together helped Old Master Li into his bedroom to make sure he rested well.

Once Old Master Li was asleep, they tiptoed out of the bedroom and closed the door behind them.

Seated in the living room, Li Zhaojun immediately glared at Ye Fan with annoyance and reproach.

And no wonder she felt that way, for someone who was usually so vulgar, shameless, and indecent, today he suddenly acted sanctimonious, which was enough for Old Master Li to detect something was amiss.

Under Li Zhaojun’s intense scrutiny, Ye Fan also felt uneasy and even annoyed.

If only you hadn’t looked at me with such disdain, as if holding my hand was as repulsive as eating ten pounds of excrement, I wouldn’t have had to let go.

I was trying to help you, and yet you look down on me as if I really did something contemptible!

The two stewed in silent irritation for a while until Ye Fan felt that he, as a man, should be more generous.

So, he forced a smile and comforted Li Zhaojun, “Actually, there’s no need to be downcast.

In fact, you should be happy.”

“Excuses!” Li Zhaojun snorted coldly, her gaze now adding disdain to her anger and blame.

Ye Fan chuckled and said, “Hear me out.

I think, since Grandpa suspected our relationship enough to wait for us in the sitting room, it shows he’s still sharp-minded and hasn’t become confused.

That’s a good sign, isn’t it?”

After hearing Ye Fan’s words, Li Zhaojun felt there was some sense to them, and her expression softened.

She turned her face away, no longer looking at Ye Fan.

Ye Fan spread his hands and sat in the oppressive silence of the living room for a while, feeling bored.

Therefore, he stood up and went into the kitchen to help Liu Tiezhu cook.

Half an hour later, the food was ready, but Old Master Li was still asleep.

So, even though their stomachs were grumbling with hunger, Ye Fan and the others could only wait.

Old Master Li was a man in his nineties with light sleep, awakening after roughly an hour or so.

Thus, Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun went to assist Old Master Li to the living room, where they all ate together.

After the meal and a short rest, Old Master Li said to Li Zhaojun, “Girl, help Grandpa to the study, I have something to tell you.”

“Yes, Grandpa,” Li Zhaojun replied, standing up to support Old Master Li.

Ye Fan also went over to help, but Old Master Li refused, “Xiao Fan, you keep watching TV.

It’s fine with the girl helping me.”

“Alright.

Be careful,” Ye Fan nodded in response.

Li Zhaojun helped Grandfather Li into the study and sat him down before she turned around to close the study door.

Then, she came back to sit down in front of Grandfather Li.

Grandfather Li took a few breaths, then looked at Li Zhaojun and asked, “Girl, tell me the truth, how is your relationship with Ye Fan progressing?”

Li Zhaojun lowered her head, knowing she could no longer offer a kind lie with Grandfather Li asking in such a formal manner.

After a long contemplation, she raised her head and said, “Grandfather, I want to get a divorce.”

Her marriage to Ye Fan was not only based on the childhood engagement they had but mainly because she had little expectation of love left.

She thought that even though there was no affection between her and Ye Fan, they could still make it work by not interfering in each other’s lives.

But Ye Fan’s behavior had greatly disappointed her.

Especially the indecent act he had committed against her the other night.

Grandfather Li, upon hearing Li Zhaojun actually suggesting divorce, refrained from advising her.

He understood his granddaughter’s personality very well; she was the type who would persevere until the end once she had made up her mind.

The fact that she was proposing divorce now meant she had truly reached her limit.

He remained silent for a while, then said, “Girl, you need to think this through.

If you decide to do this, Grandfather supports you.

I will swallow my pride and call Old Ye.

I’ll be entering the hospital tomorrow and will be living with tubes.

I should be able to hang on for another two to three years.

But within these two to three years, before Grandfather passes on, you must secure your way out.”

Upon hearing this, the always strong Li Zhaojun could not help but cover her mouth with her hand as tears streamed down, two clear lines tracing their way across her pale and tender cheeks.

“Grandfather, I won’t get a divorce,” she said, choking up.

She knew very well how much Grandfather Li hated the idea of lying in a hospital awaiting death.

Despite her uncles repeatedly urging him to enter the hospital for maintenance year after year, he always stubbornly and angrily cursed in response.

Now, for her sake, he was willing to enter the hospital and wait for death with tubes inserted.

How could she bear it?

Grandfather Li, however, shook his head firmly and said, “No, once a decision is made, you must bravely go through with it.

Don’t live a lifetime of pain because of an old man who’s almost dead.”

Li Zhaojun pressed her hand tightly to her mouth, sobbing and shaking her head repeatedly.

After a while, Grandfather Li sighed and said, “Well then, why don’t you two just separate for two months?

Take some time to cool off before making a decision, whether to divorce or to continue living together.”

“Mhm,” Li Zhaojun nodded with tears, agreeing to it.

In the living room, Ye Fan was watching the Donggu brand Panda black and white television broadcast, chatting casually with Liu Tiezhu.

Suddenly, he heard a noise from the study and turned to look, seeing the study door open with Li Zhaojun assisting Grandfather Li out.

He immediately stood up and quickly walked over to help support Grandfather Li.

Grandfather Li glanced at Ye Fan and said, “Help me back to my room.”

“Yes,” responded Ye Fan, and together with Li Zhaojun, they helped Grandfather Li into his room and made sure he was settled in bed.

“Alright now, it’s getting late, you all should go back,” said Grandfather Li.

Ye Fan smiled, “We’re not in a hurry, today is Friday, there’s nothing much to do.”

But Grandfather Li still gestured with his hand, saying, “Go on back, go on back.”

Li Zhaojun knew why Grandfather Li was so eager to send them off early, so she replied, “Alright then.

Grandfather, please rest well.”

Hearing Li Zhaojun say this, Ye Fan no longer insisted.
