Chapter 179 - 179 175 Shopping with Zhao Lina
179: Chapter 175: Shopping with Zhao Lina 179: Chapter 175: Shopping with Zhao Lina In the living room, Zhao Guodong laughed, “Ye Fan, you’re still taking the black pieces.”
“Okay,” Ye Fan responded.
He didn’t object and picked up a black piece, placing it amid the entangled pair of black and white dragons at the center of the board, a strategy completely different from the last game.
Seeing this, Zhao Guodong wasn’t surprised.
After all, Go game embraces various changes, and it would be impossible for two games to be exactly the same.
If Ye Fan had repeated the previous game’s moves, Zhao Guodong would have looked down on him.
The board setup from “Ten-mile Listening Tide Crying Blood” featured many subsequent variations, allowing the development of various strategic thoughts.
Ye Fan’s current move was another strategy he had played six years ago.
It didn’t require extra thinking; he just needed to follow the thought process and adapt on the fly.
In the kitchen, after finishing several dishes, Yang Zhizhuo urged Lina, “Go check on them in the living room.”
“Got it,” responsed Lina, and she washed her hands and headed toward Ye Fan and her father.
Approaching the board, she immediately noticed her father’s stern face with slightly furrowed brows, taking over ten seconds to make a move.
In contrast, Ye Fan appeared totally relaxed.
“Is Dad going to lose again?” she asked, somewhat surprised.
Daughters know their fathers well.
She knew her father had prepared thoroughly to challenge Ye Fan in “Ten-mile Listening Tide Crying Blood” again, yet still seemed to be losing.
“How high is this annoying guy’s skill in chess?
Could he be at a professional player’s level?” she pondered and then focused on the game.
Soon, she noticed that her father’s situation looked dire; he was clumsily resisting by playing defensive.
“This annoying guy isn’t giving my dad any breaks, so hateful,” she muttered angrily, glaring at Ye Fan.
Ye Fan, still at ease, felt Lina’s stare and looked up, giving her a slight smile.
“Hmph!” Lina pretended to be haughtily angry and then turned away.
She rushed back into the kitchen and exclaimed to her mother, “Mom, Dad is about to lose.”
“That soon?
It wasn’t this quick last time.
Your dad should have been prepared!” Yang Zhizhuo said, surprised.
“Lina, bring the dishes to the dining table and get ready to eat.”
“Mom, there are still two dishes that aren’t cooked,” replied Lina.
“Then don’t cook them,” her mother said.
“Let Ye Fan eat two dishes fewer, since he doesn’t know how to give a break to his future father-in-law.”
“Mom—” Lina protested, “we’re not even close to that stage.”
“Hehe, yes yes,” laughed Yang Zhizhuo.
“Hurry and set the table.
I’ll finish this dish, and then we can eat.”
“Got it.” Lina complied, taking a dish and walking out of the kitchen.
A few minutes later, the dishes were all brought to the table.
Yang Zhizhuo gave Lina a meaningful look, and Lina reluctantly went over to where Ye Fan and her father were looking at the board.
“Mr.
Zhao, Ye Fan, it’s time to eat.
Stop playing chess,” Yang Zhizhuo called out from a few meters away, “Focus on eating.
Don’t let the food go cold.”
Finally, hearing his wife’s call to eat, Zhao Guodong immediately laughed and said to Ye Fan, “So soon?
Let’s eat first then.”
Saying this, he didn’t make his move and directly put the white piece back into its bowl.
Yang Zhizhuo then said, “Lina, tidy up the chessboard, then come to eat.”
It was a teamed effort to wrap up the game.
“Got it,” Lina mumbled with a flushed face.
After dinner, Ye Fan didn’t stay long at Lina’s house because Zhao Guodong had sudden work matters to attend to, so Yang Zhizhuo suggested Lina and Ye Fan go out together.
Ye Fan asked Zhao Lina as they walked to the car, “Where shall we go have fun?”
“Shopping, buying stuff, and you’re paying!” Zhao Lina declared.
Ye Fan noticed Zhao Lina was harboring some anger and felt a twinge of guilt, wondering if he had gone a bit too far.
“Hehe, sure,” Ye Fan smiled, “Let’s go to IFC.”
“IFC?” Zhao Lina was momentarily surprised and reevaluated Ye Fan, “Are you sure?
You know you’re paying, right?”
IFC was one of Hua Hai’s most famous and upscale shopping centers.
Besides its elegant shopping environment, which garnered lots of praise, the mall included nearly every top global luxury brand, such as Louis Vuitton bags, Chanel perfumes, and Patek Philippe watches…
one wouldn’t dare enter without at least a few tens of thousands yuan in their pockets.
“Heh, of course, I’m paying,” Ye Fan said with a smile and nodded.
Seeing Ye Fan suddenly so generous, Zhao Lina felt a bit embarrassed and hesitated before saying, “Let’s go somewhere else, IFC is too far.”
“Don’t worry, your boyfriend here is richer than you think,” Ye Fan said as he opened the passenger door and gently pushed Zhao Lina into the car.
His hands on Zhao Lina’s back, feeling the smooth skin through her chiffon dress, were very pleasant.
Before being nudged into the car, Zhao Lina protested, “I haven’t agreed to be your girlfriend yet!”
“Hehe, right, isn’t that exactly why I’m trying to win you over?” Ye Fan thought to himself with a silent chuckle.
Hearing this, Zhao Lina felt pleased inside, but she haughtily responded, “There are plenty of people chasing after me.”
Her underlying message was that she might not accept him.
After pushing Zhao Lina into the passenger seat, Ye Fan walked around to the other side of the car, got in the driver’s seat, and drove off from the apartment complex.
Since it was past eight in the evening, the traffic was dense, and it took over half an hour to reach the IFC shopping center.
After parking the car, they were greeted by a row of luxurious vehicles, making Zhao Lina feel somewhat embarrassed, “I should have driven my car.”
Ye Fan’s fifty-thousand yuan second-hand Citroën indeed looked a bit poor here.
Her Volkswagen sedan, although not high-end, was worth two or three hundred thousand yuan and was passable.
“A car is just a means of transportation,” Ye Fan said with a light smile.
Just then, a loud voice called out, “Yo, Lina, you’re shopping at IFC too?”
Ye Fan turned toward the voice and saw a fashionably overdressed woman, looking glamorous, walking over with a smartly dressed young man.
The woman, about twenty-six or twenty-seven, looked quite beautiful with her meticulous makeup, but she still fell short of the nearly bare-faced Zhao Lina.
Seeing the woman approaching, Zhao Lina put on a feigned smile and said, “Yeah, just browsing around.”
As she spoke, the woman had already reached in front of Ye Fan and Zhao Lina.
Her gaze fell on Ye Fan, and noticing his clothing, although new, was clearly standard fare, seemed somewhat out of place in this luxurious, international shopping center.
“Your boyfriend?” The woman turned back to Zhao Lina with a hint of mockery.
Zhao Lina said, “No, just a close male friend.”
“Oh, so he’s one of your admirers.”
“Tsk, tsk, did you guys come in this car?” The woman pointed teasingly at Ye Fan’s car, “Why would you drive this here?
It’s lucky the security here isn’t snobbish, otherwise you might not have been allowed in.
Lina, don’t you have a Volkswagen worth two or three hundred thousand?”
“A car is just a means of transportation; what does it matter which car we drive?” Zhao Lina said, feigning indifference.
