“Grandfather!”
Huang Ming, Huang Wei, and Huang Jun, upon seeing Huang Qide’s arrival, couldn’t help but step forward and greet him.
Huang Qide, pointing at the severely injured Huang Peng in the distance, angrily said to Huang Ming, “What happened?
He is your brother, yet you struck him with such severity!”
Since Chen Ying had not informed Huang Qide of the incident upon his arrival, Huang Qide assumed it was Huang Ming who had caused Huang Peng’s severe injuries.
Before Huang Ming could speak up, Huang Jun interjected, “Grandfather, this is my master Liu Wei, the Sect Master of the Great Sword Sect!” He pointed at Liu Wei standing nearby.
The originally furious Huang Qide was taken aback, staring at Liu Wei, who was dressed oddly.
The Sect Master of the Great Sword Sect?!
“Grandfather, just now my Second Uncle spoke disrespectfully about the Great Sword Sect and offended my master, so my master…” Huang Jun paused here, the implication clear without further words.
Liu Wei glanced coldly at Huang Qide and said, “You’re Huang Qide?
I was the one who inflicted the injuries.
Well then, Huang Qide, are you going to lash out at me?”
Huang Qide’s complexion changed, shifting from dark to light, then he laughed and said, “So it’s the venerable Sect Master Liu Wei of the Great Sword Sect.
What nonsense are you speaking, Venerable Liu Wei?
If Huang Peng was disrespectful to the Great Sword Sect and offended you, it is only right for you to discipline him, absolutely right!”
Compared to when he had first arrived, Huang Qide was like a completely different person.
Liu Wei harrumphed coldly and addressed Huang Qide, “With such a son, I think you’d be better off without him, lest he bring trouble to Huang Family Manor one day and lead to its destruction.”
Huang Qide’s face went through a dramatic change, and he couldn’t figure out how to respond.
Embracing Huang Peng, Su Yan felt both shock and anger as she listened to the conversation between Liu Wei and Huang Qide.
However, after Liu Wei finished speaking, he waved his sleeve and left the East Hall, with Huang Jun, Huang Ming, and Huang Wei following closely behind him.
Huang Qide opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing.
He stood there, his expression changing, lost in thought.
“Manor Master, look, the Second Manor Master…” A while later, Chen Ying approached and cautiously proposed, “Shall we attend to the Second Manor Master’s healing first?”
Huang Qide heaved a sigh towards the sky, nodded, and then turned to leave.
After Liu Wei left the East Hall, Huang Jun, Huang Ming, and Huang Wei personally arranged for accommodation for Liu Wei to rest.
After everything was set, the three of them respectfully took their leave and returned to the North Hall Courtyard.
Sitting in the hall, Huang Wei said to Huang Ming, “Father, let’s seize this opportunity to have Grandfather drive Huang Peng out of Huang Family Manor.
As long as Huang Peng is out, the position of Manor Master will surely be yours in the future!”
“Drive him out of Huang Family Manor?” Huang Ming furrowed his brows, “Is that really okay?”
“What’s there to worry about,” said Huang Wei.
“Father, you’ve said it yourself, ‘The man who aims for great things does not bother with trivialities.’ If Huang Peng stays in the Manor, he will always be a threat to you.
Ever since the competition at the end of last year, Grandfather’s attitude towards Huang Peng has greatly changed, as you’ve seen.
Moreover, many elders in the Manor are now leaning towards Huang Peng, and there’s talk that Grandfather might pass the position of Manor Master to him!”
At this point, Huang Jun also spoke up, “What the second brother says is not without reason.
Father, let’s use the fact that Huang Peng offended my master Liu Wei as a pretext to convince Grandfather to drive him out of the Manor.”
Huang Ming remained silent.
“Father, you have nothing to worry about!” said Huang Wei.
Huang Ming looked up at his two sons and nodded.
Two days passed.
In another two days, it would be the first day of the New Year.
Like in previous years, Huang Family Manor was festooned with lights and decorations, exuding an air of celebration, especially in the North Hall Courtyard, which was exceptionally lively.
Only the East Hall Courtyard remained quiet and somber.
While servants and guards were decking out the Huang Family Manor with lanterns and streamers, a few figures trudged through the snow toward the manor from a few miles away.
Huang Xiaolong watched as the Huang Family Manor loomed ever closer, suddenly feeling an indescribable wave of excitement.
He was finally back at the Huang Family Manor!
Father, Mother, your son has returned!
A short while later, Huang Xiaolong reached the plaza in front of the Huang Family Manor and stood there, looking at the manor gates about a dozen meters away.
He still remembered, the previous year when he left with Fei Hou, his parents had stood in this very plaza to see him off.
At that moment, snowflakes fluttered down from the sky, landing on him and feeling slightly chilly.
“It’s snowing again,” Huang Xiaolong murmured to himself.
At the end of last year, it had been a heavy snowfall as well.
Mashal Haotian and Fei Hou stood behind Huang Xiaolong, not uttering a word.
“Squeak squeak squeak!” Just then, the Soul-devouring Purple Monkey on Huang Xiaolong’s shoulder chirped loudly, accompanying him on his return to the Huang Family Manor.
Pulled back from his thoughts by the little critter, Huang Xiaolong turned and couldn’t help but smile; the little monkey seemed to be urging him to hurry into the Huang Family Manor.
“Let’s go, let’s go home,” Huang Xiaolong said with a smile, and then he walked toward the manor gates.
Mashal Haotian and Fei Hou followed Huang Xiaolong into the Huang Family Manor.
However, as soon as Huang Xiaolong entered, he noticed that the manor’s servants and guards all kept their distance from him, casting strange glances his way, which baffled him.
Approaching the East Hall Courtyard, Huang Xiaolong caught sight of his younger brother, Huang Xiaohai, squatting in the courtyard, hitting a chunk of snow with a stick while crying.
“Xiao Hai!” called out Huang Xiaolong, unable to contain himself.
Upon hearing Huang Xiaolong’s voice, Huang Xiaohai abruptly stood up, turned around, and then ran towards Huang Xiaolong, throwing himself into his elder brother’s arms and sobbing, “Big brother, you’ve finally come back!”
“Wu wu wu!
Wu wu wu!”
Huang Xiaohai’s tears instantly soaked through Huang Xiaolong’s robes.
“Xiao Hai, what happened?
Did your sister Huang Min bully you?” Huang Xiaolong asked, as he wiped the tears from his brother’s face.
Huang Xiaohai didn’t respond, just kept on crying.
“What’s wrong, Xiao Hai?
What happened?” Huang Xiaolong suddenly had a bad feeling.
“Father, Father, he…
Father, he!” Huang Xiaohai spoke through his sobs, his words broken, “Father, he’s been beaten up, and Second Sister too!” Huang Xiaohai, wiping his tears, cried out loudly.
“What?!” Huang Xiaolong’s expression changed dramatically, and he rushed towards the East Hall Courtyard with Marshal Haotian and Fei Hou exchanging a glance before hurrying after him.
Bursting into the East Hall Courtyard and arriving at his father Huang Peng’s room, Huang Xiaolong found the door ajar.
He charged in, shouting, “Father!” As he entered, he saw his mother, Su Yan, sitting by the bed, red-eyed from recent weeping.
On the bed lay a figure, undoubtedly his father, Huang Peng!
“Father!” Huang Xiaolong rushed to the bed, calling out, his eyes instantly reddening.
Lying on the bed, Huang Peng’s face was ashen as he weakly opened his eyes upon seeing Huang Xiaolong, squeezing out a smile, his voice barely a whisper, “Xiaolong, you’re back!”
“Father, who was it?
Who did this to you?!” Huang Xiaolong asked, clenching his fists in anger as he gazed at his pale father, feeling an aching sensation deep within.
