Chapter 18: Completing the Prescription

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Completing the Prescription

"I asked if I restore that prescription, can I really get a million?"

Su Luo did not bother to argue with a clerk but asked again.

"Of course. If you can restore the prescription and gain Elder Wei’s approval, the million reward is yours. However, I advise you not to waste your effort. Even Elder Wei himself couldn’t restore it, let alone you."

The clerk thought Su Luo was driven mad by poverty and was hoping for a stroke of luck. Therefore, he did not conceal his scorn.

Su Luo didn’t engage further but went straight over and started writing on that scroll.

Seeing this.

The clerk was shocked and outraged, "Are you fucking crazy? Who let you write on that scroll?"

He hurriedly ran out from behind the counter, but by the time he reached Su Luo to stop him, Su Luo had already completed three of the ingredients, leaving only the last one unfinished.

"Get the hell out of here!"

The clerk cursed, trying to push Su Luo away.

However, Su Luo shifted slightly to the side, allowing the clerk’s hand to miss and not touch him.

Su Luo frowned, "Isn’t this about the million reward, saying that the prescription can be completed?"

"You were supposed to transcribe it on a blank piece of paper in black ink, who the fuck told you to touch the original prescription! It’s over now! If Elder Wei finds out, you’re done for, and I’ll be in trouble too," the clerk panicked, looking for any way to erase the writing Su Luo had done.

Just then, the door to the back yard opened, and an elder in a long tunic from the last century walked over, "Ah Le, what’s the matter, why are you making such a fuss?"

Instantly, the clerk named Ah Le turned pale, "Elder Wei, I, I..."

"What happened?" Elder Wei walked over and asked.

Ah Le dared not conceal anything, "I didn’t keep an eye on the prescription, and this kid went ahead and scribbled all over it with a pen. I’m afraid he’s ruined the original!"

What?

Elder Wei’s complexion changed drastically.

He hurried to look at the scroll.

He knew that the scroll was an ancient prescription he had obtained with great difficulty. However, because it was so old, several of the medicinal ingredients and their dosages had become blurred and unclear.

After many attempts and calculations, he still couldn’t fully restore the prescription, which is why he offered the reward.

Moreover, he had repeatedly and emphatically instructed the clerk not to let anyone touch the scroll, and now someone had scribbled all over it?

However.

When he saw the three medicinal ingredients that Su Luo had filled in on the originally blurry parts, as well as the dosages that followed, he suddenly became stupefied.

"This, this..." Elder Wei momentarily stammered.

"Damn brat, it’s all your fault. Just wait for a huge compensation," the clerk, seeing the drastic change in Elder Wei’s demeanor and his stammering speech, thought Elder Wei was furious, which made him even more panicked and resentful toward Su Luo.

"Shut your damn mouth, who said I wanted his huge compensation?" Elder Wei suddenly burst out shouting, his voice strong and commanding, not at all like a man nearly seventy years old.

The clerk was stunned.

Su Luo, on the other hand, remained very calm.

It seems that this Elder Wei knows his stuff.

"Shall I continue to complete it, or do I owe compensation?" Su Luo asked.

Elder Wei’s expression was excited, "Young brother, you, you can really complete the last ingredient?"

Actually, the three ingredients that Su Luo had completed, after his countless attempts, had also been completed by him. But that very last ingredient, he was at his wits’ end.

Among Chinese medicinal herbs, just the known varieties number in the tens of thousands. Even if one narrows the scope to focus on the effects, and he tried one after another in succession, refining medicine with different dosages, he had done this hundreds if not thousands of times over the past two years, using up a lot of precious herbs, but he never managed to complete that last ingredient.

Now, with Su Luo having completed the previous three ingredients, hope surged in Elder Wei’s heart.

Su Luo responded with action.

He picked up a brush and completed the final ingredient, "aconite," including its dosage.

"Aconite?"

Elder Wei’s eyes widened in an instant.

"That’s it, that’s it! Aconite is pungent and hot, toxic, but one of its effects is to treat deficiency of heart-yang and angina. I’ve also tried it several times, perhaps due to the wrong dosage, which led to the failure of the medicine refining, and I excluded it. But judging by the young brother’s dosage, the theoretical success rate of refining Heart Protecting Pills is much higher."

Because, Su Luo not only completed the last of the herbs and its dosage, but also adjusted the dosage of the first three herbs accordingly, consistent with what Elder Wei had experimented with, but the quantity differed. Judging by the alchemy formula Su Luo had completed, it was undoubtedly correct!

"Young brother, you truly are a divine being! May I ask which master of Chinese medicine have you apprenticed with?" Elder Wei asked excitedly.

So young and yet accomplished in the field of Chinese medicine, Su Luo’s deep understanding astonishes Elder Wei.

After all, today’s youth, even if they study medicine, mostly study Western medicine. Chinese medicine emphasizes inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry, and palpation, requiring much experience, so even if one studies Chinese medicine, at this age, one would probably only be an apprentice.

But Su Luo’s expertise clearly did not resemble that of an apprentice.

"Apprenticed with which master of Chinese medicine?" Su Luo touched his nose.

He had no teacher.

If one really had to say there was, it would be the "Mystic World Pharmacopoeia" that suddenly appeared in his mind when he acquired his cultivation inheritance, which contained records of various herbs and methods of elixir-making.

"My teacher is not from this world, and he did not allow me to mention his name," Su Luo fabricated an excuse.

And indeed, if one were to trace it back, his teacher would be the creator of the "Mystic World Pharmacopoeia" in the Cultivation World, who truly isn’t from their world.

For Elder Wei, however, he interpreted this to mean that Su Luo’s teacher had passed away.

A trace of regret appeared on his face, "Young brother, grieve not!"

Su Luo did not bother to explain but asked instead, "Now, can I take medicine worth millions from the pharmacy?"

"Of course. Young brother, whether you want a million in cash or medicine worth a million, it’s all up to you," Elder Wei immediately responded.

Seeing Elder Wei’s straightforwardness, Su Luo also cautioned, "This alchemy formula, actually isn’t that miraculous. It’s called Heart Protecting Pill, and it only serves to protect the heart vessels. If it were ancient times when medicine was not advanced, it would certainly be a treasure. But in modern society, for treating heart problems, it very likely isn’t as good as Western medicine surgery. If the elderly sir intends to use this formula to heal and save people, it won’t be able to provide a complete cure."

Elder Wei frowned.

The formula he pinned his hopes on, now spoken by this young man as being inferior to Western medicine?

This made Elder Wei feel somewhat uncomfortable.

If it weren’t for Su Luo having completed this medical formula, he might have cursed right there and then.

Still, Elder Wei’s tone cooled somewhat, "Young man, our Chinese medicine is profound and extensive, and in many aspects, it’s not necessarily inferior to Western medicine. You study Chinese medicine too, so don’t undervalue it, thinking we are a level below Western medicine."

Su Luo knew he misunderstood his words, and he immediately laughed, "I never said Chinese medicine is inferior to Western medicine, I’m saying that the effect of this formula isn’t that great, if there’s a better elixir formula, one pill could naturally be much more effective than surgery."

Elder Wei’s expression changed at once, and he hurriedly asked, "Young brother, are you saying you have an elixir formula that’s more authoritative and effective for treating heart problems?"
