"Yay, I have a daddy now!"

"Tomorrow, I’m going to tell Ya Ya that I have a daddy too!"

Nian Nian’s joy was written all over her face.

Xia Yi, worried that Nian Nian might speak without thinking again and expect her and Su Luo to imitate the couple next door with hugs and endearments like "dear," and perhaps even a kiss, quickly said, "Nian Nian, let’s brush our teeth and go to bed, alright?"

"Okay." Nian Nian hurled herself into Xia Yi’s arms again.

Xia Yi motioned for Su Luo to sit down while she took Nian Nian to brush their teeth.

Fortunately, it was late at night, and after confirming her dad’s identity, Nian Nian quickly became drowsy. After brushing her teeth and climbing into bed, she fell asleep immediately.

Xia Yi came out of the bedroom and, seeing Su Luo sitting on the sofa, finally had a moment to pour him a glass of water and said, "You must be curious why I’m living here, aren’t you?"

"This place has a strong sense of life, very convenient," Su Luo said.

"I’m staying here to save money," Xia Yi volunteered.

"Is it to pay for Nian Nian’s medical treatment?" Su Luo, upon hearing Xia Yi bring it up, decided not to beat around the bush.

Surprise flashed through Xia Yi’s eyes, "How do you know?"

"I felt it when I was holding Nian Nian," Su Luo looked at Xia Yi and asked, "What did the doctor say?"

Xia Yi shook her head, her expression dimming, "I’ve consulted many doctors, but none can cure her, they can’t even find a diagnosis. We can only relieve her pain when she has an attack. Moreover, the doctors have said that Nian Nian’s body might not hold out for much longer, she might have only a few years left."

"So, Sister Yi, you have been working hard to make money, all of which you’ve spent on treating Nian Nian!" Su Luo sighed; it was not a question, but affirmation.

Xia Yi nodded.

Then, Xia Yi looked at Su Luo with a hopeful expression, "Su Luo, when Nian Nian asked you if you were her dad, I was afraid of seeing her look disappointed again. I wasn’t thinking much and said you were her dad... Can I ask you, if it’s not too much trouble, to come and see Nian Nian sometimes, and pretend to be her dad?"

"No problem at all!" Su Luo agreed immediately; he was fond of Nian Nian.

"Thank you!" Xia Yi’s eyes were filled with gratitude.

She knew that Su Luo was now a "big shot" respected even by Chen Boxiong, so she was truly grateful that he had agreed to her request.

Her excitement, however, caused her blouse to stretch tighter across her chest.

It seemed as if the buttons were about to burst open.

Su Luo quickly averted his eyes and said, "Sister Yi, no need to thank me. Just one thing I’m wondering..."

"You want to ask about Nian Nian’s biological father, right?" Xia Yi sighed.

"Yes," Su Luo nodded, "I was thinking, Nian Nian probably wants to meet her biological father more."

"I don’t know who her biological father is," Xia Yi said quietly after a moment.

Su Luo’s expression shifted subtly.

Xia Yi had a child but didn’t know who the father was. What did that mean?

Su Luo thought of an unpleasant possibility that might involve some unhappy memories for Xia Yi.

"Sorry." Su Luo quickly said.

Xia Yi, however, smiled, "Why are you apologizing? I don’t know who Nian Nian’s father is because I had artificial insemination. I’ve never had a boyfriend, I’ve never been with a man... that way... I just tell people I’m married, do you understand what I mean?"

Being a man, talking about this with Su Luo made Xia Yi’s cheeks flush with an unnatural red.

But since Nian Nian had already accepted Su Luo as her dad, Xia Yi felt she had to clarify things to get his help.

It can be done that way?

Su Luo was shocked!

However, Su Luo suddenly remembered something!

In a moment of impulse, he had once done something bizarre.

He donated sperm!

The event occurred four years ago!

He had told no one about it!

"Nian Nian seems to be three years old, with a gestation of ten months... If I calculate it, Sister Yi’s conception would be about three to four years ago, right around the time I donated sperm..."

"Nian Nian really does look a lot like me... Seeing her, I even felt a kind of blood resonance..."

Su Luo pondered in his heart.

And his face underwent a dramatic change.

"What’s wrong?"

Seeing the sudden change in Su Luo’s expression, Xia Yi bit her lip, "Do you think it’s shameful for me to have a child this way without being married?"

Xia Yi breathed a sigh of relief.

"Sister Yi, may I ask why you made this decision?" Su Luo inquired.

"I..." Xia Yi’s expression shifted slightly, she bit her lip gently, and ultimately shook her head, "I don’t want to say."

Su Luo surmised that there was probably some painful story behind her decision.

So, he did not press further.

However, before leaving, Su Luo made an excuse to check on Nian Nian and quietly took a few of her hairs.

He would find time to do a paternity test with Nian Nian.

He thought that, given Xia Yi’s situation, Nian Nian could very well be his biological daughter!
