Chapter 1002: 976: Niu Hong's Talent

Chapter 1002: Chapter 976: Niu Hong’s Talent

The village of Zongshan, the back mountain forest, is incredibly quiet.

A fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy is there practicing cultivation with immense concentration. Every movement is performed with the utmost seriousness.

This boy is Niu Hong, and he is naturally practicing the cultivation technique given to him by Tangyu. When Tangyu left, he gave Niu Hong a Marrow Cleansing Pill and the “Myriad Hearts Pilgrimage Technique” for him to cultivate. Tangyu has been gone for more than half a month, and during this time, Niu Hong has been diligently cultivating, almost to the point of obsession. Except for eating and sleeping, Min Tian has been persistently training alone here.

The old village chief and others watched with a sense of heartache, knowing that becoming a cultivator requires enduring great hardships, and this bit of suffering is nothing at all. Moreover, they truly hoped that Niu Hong could become a cultivator. The better he performed before the immortal returned to take him, the more satisfied the immortal would naturally be.

Niu Hong has been an understanding child since he was young, maturing earlier than other children.

Though he is still young, he is very clear-headed inside. He knows this is a great opportunity for him, and if he can grasp it, he can completely change his life. So, no matter how great the hardship, he must endure it.

This half-month of cultivation has brought him significant gains. However, he still doesn’t dare to be sure whether such results can catch the eye of the immortals.

Therefore, he can only continue to practice desperately, crazily, and relentlessly.

Behind a large tree, four figures silently appeared. It was Tangyu and his companions. They had already been here for a while.

Zhuang Qian looked envious and said, “Tsk tsk, Tangyu, look at you, such a promising talent, and you didn’t even take him as your disciple directly. Did you see that focused expression? Did you see those unwavering eyes? And look, in just a short half-month, he has probably reached about the sixth layer of the Fundamental Realm. That’s absolutely a genius.”

Tangyu had noticed these things long ago, and when he first saw it, he was quite surprised. Indeed, in just a short half-month, Niu Hong had managed to advance to the sixth layer of the Fundamental Realm on his own, without any guidance. No one would dare say he’s not a genius. Although Tangyu gave him a Marrow Cleansing Pill, it would only allow him to reach the first layer of the Fundamental Realm.

“Let’s go,” Tangyu said, as he walked towards Niu Hong.

“Who’s there?” Niu Hong’s sense of awareness was quite good, as he suddenly shouted and turned around. Seeing it was Tangyu, he was immediately flustered and quickly said, “I’m sorry, Immortal, I didn’t know it was you all.”

Tangyu smirked and waved him off, saying, “No worries, Niu Hong, come here.”

Niu Hong looked at Tangyu, and a bit nervously walked over, feeling somewhat apprehensive in his heart.

Tangyu smiled and said, “No need to be so nervous, relax. You now can be considered to have stepped into the ranks of cultivators. How does it feel to be practicing for the past half month?”

Niu Hong thought for a moment and said, “It feels okay, nothing particularly special. I took some time to study the immortal arts given to me by the immortal, and I began to understand it slowly before I started practicing. After practicing, I felt my body changing every day, and it seemed my strength was increasing. Other than that, I didn’t feel much.”

Tangyu said, “That’s because your progress is significant. In just a short half-month, you have reached the sixth layer of the Fundamental Realm by yourself. Such talent makes even me embarrassed.”

“Huh?” Niu Hong was startled, looking at Tangyu with a face full of confusion. He couldn’t believe that his talent was better than an immortal’s. Does this mean the immortal is affirming his achievements?

What Tangyu said wasn’t false; if compared, Tangyu’s initial progress speed was indeed slower than Niu Hong’s.

However, you can’t compare it like that because this is the cultivation world; the environment for cultivation is far better than on Earth. Even so, speaking overall, Niu Hong’s talent is somewhat astonishing.

Tangyu patted Niu Hong’s shoulder and said, “Don’t doubt it. You didn’t hear wrong; your talent is quite outstanding. You are a genius for immortal cultivation. If you don’t cultivate immortality, that would be a waste. Your performance over the past half-month is satisfactory to me. But you must also stay humble and be cautious. The path of immortal cultivation is like rowing upstream; not advancing means retreating. So, you must never be slack at any time.”

Niu Hong hesitated for a moment, and then showed a simple, honest smile, scratching his head with some embarrassment, “Immortal, is it true? Am I really a genius for immortal cultivation?”

Zhuang Qian laughed and said, “Haha, true yet false, false yet true, naturally we wouldn’t deceive a young fellow like you. Your talent can indeed be described as genius. As long as you practice well in the future, you will certainly achieve something.”

Niu Hong looked at Zhuang Qian, and said, “Then is it possible for me to be as formidable as you, Immortal, in the future?”

“Like me?” Zhuang Qian pointed to his own nose, shaking his head with a wry smile, “Do you really think I’m formidable?”

Niu Hong didn’t even think and nodded vigorously, “Formidable, very formidable, as formidable as the immortals.”

Hearing these innocent words, Zhuang Qian also laughed but wryly: “Hehe, you overestimate me. We’re not as formidable as you imagine. Our strength is still very weak. If you set us as your goal, then you’ll lack ambition.”

“Huh?” Niu Hong was once again puzzled.

It can’t be, this is still called weak?

Tangyu waved his hand and said, “Alright, you may not understand these matters for now. Once you return to the Yanshan Sect with me, I’ll have someone explain them to you slowly. Let’s go, say goodbye to the village chief and the others, then we’ll depart.”

Niu Hong became immediately excited and nodded vigorously, “Understood, Immortal.”

Tangyu shook his head, “I told you not to call me Immortal; none of us are Immortals. At best, we’re only cultivators. From now on, call me Brother Yu, call him Brother Qian, and call him Brother Chong. Do you understand?”

Niu Hong nodded, “Oh, I understand. Sorry, Immort—Brother Yu.”

“Hmm, it’s alright. Take your time getting used to it. Go quickly.” Tangyu patted Niu Hong.

After bidding farewell to the people of Mount Guard Village, Niu Hong followed Tangyu all the way back to the Yanshan Sect.

Niu Hong and Qi Xingtian entered the Yanshan Sect as servants. Upon returning to Bright Moon Peak, Luo Xiaobing, Bareheaded Qiang, Liu Danyin, and the other eight came out to greet them, each warmly welcoming Tangyu back to the palace.

Seeing such a lineup, Niu Hong too was filled with reverent fear, tightly following behind Tangyu, daring only to sneak glances with his eyes.

Everyone’s gaze fell on Niu Hong and Qi Xingtian, evidently curious about these two newcomers. The contrast between the old and young formed a sharp distinction. Old Qi stood there stern and silent, which deterred many from staring, while Niu Hong was obviously a fledgling.

Tangyu said, “Let me introduce them to you. They are newly recruited servants of mine and will be cultivating with you from now on. This is Niu Hong, who has a rather pitiful background but extraordinary talent; I’d like you to guide him more often. This is Old Qi; from now on, you should call him Old Qi, and if there’s no important matter, no one should disturb Old Qi, got it?”

Towards the end, Tangyu’s expression became serious.

The people were slightly surprised when they looked at Tangyu, but they nodded to show their understanding.

Tangyu instructed Luo Xiaobing to arrange accommodations for Qi Xingtian and Niu Hong, then called Bareheaded Qiang to the side.

“There should be places selling spells in Yanshan City?” Tangyu asked.

Bareheaded Qiang immediately nodded, “Yes, there are a few. Immortal Music Palace has some, but spells aren’t sold cheaply, especially the better ones.”

Spells are divided into grades, from low to high: Lower Grade, Middle Grade, High Grade, and Top Grade. Of course, below Lower Grade are spells that don’t qualify as graded.

Ungraded spells are still called spells but are essentially cultivation techniques. For example, Myriad Saints Valley’s “Myriad Hearts Pilgrimage Technique” is ungraded and considered a cultivation technique.

Above spells are Daoist Magics, also divided into four grades. Above Daoist Magics are Immortal Arts, which likewise have four grades.

In places like Yanshan Sect, the highest art a disciple can cultivate is spells. As for Daoist Magic, whether Yanshan Sect possesses it is unknown, but even if they do, it’s certainly treated as a sect’s treasure, not easily taught to disciples.

The “Great Rift Vajra Technique” is considered a Middle Grade spell, while Senior Qing Yazi’s “Immortal Nine Heavens Great Technique” given to Tangyu is uncertain in grade; it doesn’t seem to fall under spells and should be a Daoist Art, although the grade quality is unknown.

For Senior Shi Que’s “Yin Yang Life and Death Art,” its grade is not high, merely at the level of Top Grade spells, but if the grade were too high, Tangyu would struggle to cultivate it. The “Undying Nine Transformations” is a secret technique, not categorized in grades.

Tangyu does possess cultivation techniques, but they cannot be passed down. Yanshan Sect’s cultivation techniques can’t be casually transmitted to servants, as they would violate sect rules. Senior Qing Yazi’s “Immortal Nine Heavens Great Technique” is even more forbidden to spread. The two arts from Senior Shi Que are even less allowed.

Thus, Tangyu was compelled to teach Niu Hong an ungraded cultivation technique.

Considering Niu Hong’s talent, Tangyu didn’t want to waste it. Hence, he planned to purchase spells for Niu Hong to cultivate, so everyone could train together.

Tangyu nodded, “Here’s the thing: Bareheaded Qiang, I’ll give you a task to purchase three Lower Grade spells. Go with Luo Xiaobing. How much does one Lower Grade spell cost approximately?”

“I’m not exactly sure, but I think it’s above 100,000 Lower Grade Pure Yang Stones. The more expensive ones might reach 200,000.” Bareheaded Qiang replied.

Tangyu said, “Hmm, it’s fine. Just go ahead and buy it. I’ll give you 500,000 Lower Grade Pure Yang Stones; you should be able to purchase them with that amount, right?”

500,000, which is almost all of Tangyu’s current wealth.

Bareheaded Qiang nodded, “500,000 is definitely enough. Alright, boss, I’ll handle it perfectly.”

Tangyu took out 500,000 Lower Grade Pure Yang Stones, gathered them in a Qiankun Bag, and handed it to Bareheaded Qiang. This affair was entrusted to him and Luo Xiaobing. After giving instructions to Bareheaded Qiang, Tangyu went for secluded cultivation. The recent outing yielded great results, so it was time to digest and absorb them properly.
