Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Fool, why are you crying?
Just a second after she finished speaking, Tan Bo walked over and draped a black suit jacket over her shoulders.
"What are you wearing?" he frowned at Jiang Yurou.
Jiang Yurou tried to shrug it off, her face showing a trace of embarrassment, "Tan Bo, what are you doing?"
"Don’t move, put on the jacket."
"I won’t."
"Jiang Yurou, don’t force me to hit you!" Tan Bo threatened coldly.
Jiang Yurou pouted, somewhat dissatisfied, "Look around at all these other girls, which one of them is wearing an evening dress with a jacket on top?"
Besides, this was a man’s jacket, which would make it difficult for her to meet other men tonight.
"I’m telling you again, put on the jacket," Tan Bo said with an icy tone.
"I just won’t..." Jiang Yurou’s defiance kicked in.
"..."
Xinan couldn’t bear watching this, spoke up, "Rourou, you should listen to Tan Bo and put on the jacket. It’s quite cold with the evening breeze."
"Oh... okay then," Jiang Yurou reluctantly put on the jacket.
Tan Bo sent a grateful look to Xinan.
At that moment, Han Jibai and Ran Shasha went to the centre of the stage, one dressed in casual attire and the other in a red dress, and danced an opening number under the brilliant lights, successfully lifting the mood of the venue.
After the atmosphere ignited, the boys started to invite their favored dance partners to the dance floor.
The dance music began, and the people in the dance floor gradually merged into one, as if a single entity.
Even Jiang Yurou and Tan Bo joined the crowd.
Xinan shook her head helplessly, asked a waiter for a drink, and sat down in a corner.
After sitting down, she then realized Cheng Yi was sitting on the sofa nearby.
Xinan took a sip of her drink, her eyes darting towards the dance floor.
Although she didn’t intentionally pay attention to Cheng Yi, she was acutely aware of what was happening around him.
A minute after sitting down, a curvaceous girl approached him. They exchanged a few words, and soon she walked away.
Five minutes after sitting down, a second girl approached him, and this time they talked for a full ten minutes.
In less than twenty minutes, nearly a dozen girls had come to find Cheng Yi.
With each girl that came by, Xinan’s mood sank a notch, and the glass of wine emptied by half.
Until there were mostly empty glasses on the table, a gentle male voice echoed in her ear.
"Miss, may I sit beside you?" A young man with gold-rimmed glasses stood in front of Xinan.
"Uh-huh," Xinan nodded.
"Miss, did you come alone to the wedding?"
"I have friends... they’re dancing," Xinan rubbed her head, her voice slightly slurred.
"Is that so..." The man hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Then, may I have the pleasure of asking you for a dance?"
His voice betrayed a hint of shyness.
Just as Xinan was about to refuse, another girl walked up from beside them.
This one was different from the others; without saying anything, she sat down next to Cheng Yi.
Almost lying in his arms.
"Okay," Xinan answered the gentleman.
Upon hearing Xinan’s reply, a look of joy appeared on the man’s face. He reached out to hold Xinan’s small hand, and together they walked into the dance floor.
Meanwhile, Cheng Yi’s attention was fixed on Xinan. Suddenly someone sat down beside him, and the pungent scent of perfume assaulted his nostrils.
He frowned and was about to speak when he saw a man leading Xinan by the hand into the dance floor.
This made the expression on his face turn even uglier.
The woman beside him didn’t seem to notice the change in Cheng Yi’s expression at that moment. She was about to get even closer when Cheng Yi’s icy gaze swept over, and he said coldly, "Scram!"
The woman was so frightened that she quickly withdrew her hand, got up, and left in an awkward hurry.
After finishing the dance with that man, Xinan found an excuse to leave.
She staggered away from the dance floor; the effects of the alcohol were beginning to hit her, and her head felt heavy, as if the whole world was spinning.
"Miss, are you alright?" A waiter steadied her just as Xinan was about to fall.
"I... I’m fine," Xinan said, her face flushed as she looked at him.
"Miss, you are drunk. What is your room number? Let me help you back to rest."
"Three, three bars..." Xinan lowered her head, thinking like a child might.
What she didn’t know was that the man beside her had already changed.
She looked up at the man: "I... I remember now, my room number is... Hey, you seem to have gotten more handsome."
Cheng Yi sighed, bent down to pick up Xinan, and then walked towards Xinan’s room.
Xinan was not quiet in his arms; she reached out and grabbed at the front of Cheng Yi’s shirt, mumbling unclearly, "You smell so nice, just like him..."
Cheng Yi, with the restless woman in his arms, showed a trace of affection in his eyes, yet with a hint of helplessness.
Opening the bedroom door, Cheng Yi gently laid Xinan on the bed, and as he was about to get her some water, Xinan suddenly grabbed his arm.
He turned around, and the woman in his arms suddenly clung to his waist, burying her head in his chest, her voice so low it was almost inaudible: "Brother Yi, please don’t leave me, okay?"
The tenderness in Cheng Yi’s eyes grew deeper as he gently patted Xinan on the back, whispering reassuringly, "Nannan, I won’t leave you. Even when you can’t see me, I will always love you, protect you, and stand behind you as your reliable support."
Cheng Yi’s gaze became even more affectionate.
Xinan didn’t speak and instead hugged Cheng Yi tighter in her arms.
Cheng Yi gently rubbed Xinan’s head and bent over to kiss her forehead.
But when he kissed her eyes, Cheng Yi realized that Xinan’s eyes were already moist.
"Fool, why the tears?" Cheng Yi gently wiped away Xinan’s tears with the pad of his finger.
However, tears continued to flow from her eyes.
"Why cry even when drunk..." Cheng Yi sighed helplessly, but his heart softened.
After he spoke, he leaned down to kiss Xinan’s eyes, licking away her tears for her.
"Bastard..." Xinan muttered in a daze.
Cheng Yi’s heart clenched, he paused for maybe a second, and then laughed in response, "Yes, I’m a bastard."
"Scumbag..."
"Uh-huh."
"Jerk..."
...
Cheng Yi didn’t respond to that statement and instead directly silenced Xinan’s lips.
In that moment, the atmosphere became charged with a palpable tension.
The breathing of both became slightly heavier. Cheng Yi encircled Xinan’s waist, tasted her lips shallowly, and then stopped.
The heat from his body rose from the soles of his feet to the top of his head, and while Xinan wasn’t paying attention, Cheng Yi pushed her hands away, planning to go to the bathroom to take care of it.
