Chapter 166: Chapter 166: [Extra] Interested in Making a Friend?

At eleven o’clock at night, inside a downtown bar, the lights were dazzling, the crowd was roaring, and the music was deafening.

In the center of the dance floor, a sexy, shapely woman in a low-cut backless outfit was gyrating her hips, dancing with wild abandon, and continuously clinking glasses with the men around her.

The dim light of the bar made Jiang Yurou feel somewhat dizzy as she held her straw, taking a light sip of the drink inside.

She could feel several men watching her, like shadowy figures in the night.

She had to think of a way to get away.

Tan Bo had gone to a neighboring province for business today, and it was clearly impractical for him to come now. It wasn’t much longer before Jiang Yurou narrowed her eyes slightly, the man who could help her escape had appeared.

His entrance immediately caught the attention of all the girls in the place, and Jiang Yurou was no exception.

This man was exactly to Jiang Yurou’s aesthetic tastes, with peach blossom eyes, a buzz cut, chiseled features, a straight, high nose, and lips of a medium thickness, though... he was a bit dark-skinned.

He sat at the table next to Jiang Yurou’s. She stirred the drink in her hand and looked toward the next table.

After a while, the man noticed her gaze and looked back.

Their eyes met, and neither lowered their heads shyly first.

Jiang Yurou hooked up the corners of her mouth and then walked over to the man, "Hey, handsome, I’ve run into a bit of trouble. Could you help me out?"

Zhou Ming glanced at Jiang Yurou, who had appeared suddenly by his side, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly, "Hmm... What’s the matter?"

His voice was low and sexy, making Jiang Yurou’s heartbeat quicken.

Jiang Yurou suddenly leaned in closer, whispering in his ear, "Do you see those men across from us? They’ve been staring at me for quite a while now, and I’m a bit scared. Could you escort me out of the bar?"

Her eyes showed a hint of pleading, her voice soft and tender, with a touch of shy coyness.

As a man himself, Zhou Ming naturally understood what the lewd expressions on those men’s faces meant when they looked at the woman before them. If she walked out of the bar alone tonight, she would likely become these people’s prey...

Zhou Ming thought of himself as no saint, and he didn’t have much inclination to help a woman he didn’t know at all, but for some reason, when he saw that pair of pitiable eyes, his heart inexplicably trembled.

"Okay," his voice was very faint, as if there were no emotions in it.

Jiang Yurou hadn’t expected this man to agree to her request so easily, as he didn’t seem like an easygoing person.

"Aren’t you leaving?"

While Jiang Yurou was lost in thought, the man had already stood up from the bar’s chair.

"Ah? Oh," Jiang Yurou snapped out of her daze and hurriedly followed his steps, walking out.

In the bar where people milled about, even scantily clad, one wouldn’t feel the cold, but upon stepping out the bar’s entrance, a chill hit, making Jiang Yurou shiver involuntarily and causing her arms to break out in goosebumps.

Zhou Ming noticed all these small movements of hers. He never understood these girls, who would dress so scantily despite being cold, but he was also only wearing a single layer, so he couldn’t help her.

The man walked in front of Jiang Yurou the whole time, giving her the chance to size him up. He was wearing a white T-shirt with black jeans below, looking neat and tidy, full of energy.

"There’s a taxi up ahead." Zhou Ming stopped and pointed towards the intersection.

Jiang Yurou looked up and indeed, there was a taxi parked there, but she didn’t hurry towards it. Instead, she stood in place and said, "Thank you for walking me out. My name is Jiang Yurou. Are you interested in making friends?"

"It was nothing, no need for friendship." His rejection was very direct.

Jiang Yurou raised an eyebrow, "Is that so... that’s really a pity, though I think we have quite a connection."

"And so?"

"So... I really do want to get to know you," Jiang Yurou’s voice was gentle and sweet, making anyone who heard her feel a sudden thrill.

Zhou Ming spoke indifferently, "If you’re approaching me with that sort of intent, sorry, but I have no plans to date anyone right now."

This statement revealed a lot, though he had outright rejected her, Jiang Yurou at least gathered the information that he didn’t have a girlfriend and was still single.

Men are all the same, they all say they don’t have plans to date, but that’s just an excuse. When they truly start to like someone, all their principles and plans get tossed out the window!

It was just the beginning, so Jiang Yurou wasn’t in a hurry for him to fall for her.

With this in mind, Jiang Yurou spoke up, "Then it’s settled, I won’t seek a romantic relationship with you."

Her words carried a bit of innocence, appearing very sincere.

Zhou Ming, who had no way of dealing with the girl in front of him, could only sigh helplessly, "As you wish."

"Now that we’re friends, you haven’t told me your name," Jiang Yurou said with a smile, her gaze warm and filled with friendliness.

"Zhou Ming."

"Okay, I’ll remember that. Can you give me your phone number? You helped me today, and I’d like to treat you to a meal," she sincerely wanted to thank Zhou Ming and incidentally get his phone number.

Zhou Ming’s gaze lingered on her, his eyes inquisitive, but his expression unchanged.

Jiang Yurou continued, "I truly just want to thank you."

Zhou Ming looked away and waved his hand, "No need for a meal."

Saying so, without waiting for Jiang Yurou to speak again, Zhou Ming walked to the roadside and hailed a taxi for her, "It’s late, you should get back."

Jiang Yurou followed; "So where do you live? How can I find you later?"

Zhou Ming put her into the car without answering.

"Or you could tell me where you work," Jiang Yurou’s voice continued to carry over.

Zhou Ming still didn’t respond, but instead nodded to the driver, "Driver, you can go."

Watching the taxi drive away, reminiscing Jiang Yurou’s voice, Zhou Ming felt a momentary daze, but he soon regained his composure, lowered his head slightly and shook it lightly, the corners of his mouth bearing an almost imperceptible smile.

By the roadside, he lit up a cigarette and only when the last wisp of smoke had burned away did he turn and walked into the darkness. He didn’t return to the bar but instead entered an alley to the south, following it straight ahead past shops to find old residential buildings, the houses small and decrepit.

And Jiang Yurou, who should have been long gone, appeared in the alley at that moment. So, he lived here...
