Chapter 147: Chapter 147: The Unsigned Letter

In the darkness, Zhou Ming quietly stared at the two silhouettes, his eyes betraying no emotion, like an unfathomably deep pool of water.

Standing by Jiang Yurou’s side, the man named Tan Bo should be one of the "brothers" she often referred to.

With different surnames, Jiang and Tan, they, of course, had no blood relation.

Zhou Ming was also a man; he wasn’t foolish enough to believe the two were merely ordinary siblings—at least not Tan Bo!

In fact, the first time he saw Jiang Yurou, Zhou Ming noticed she wasn’t a child from an ordinary family. Though she dressed simply and modestly, that innate elegance she emanated left a deep impression on him.

And today, after seeing Tan Bo, his suspicions had been further confirmed.

Zhou Ming looked at the figures in the light in the distance and let out a self-deprecating laugh, as if trying to let out all the sorrow in his heart.

It wasn’t until the expensive luxury car had disappeared from view that he slowly retracted his gaze and turned around, walking deeper into the alley without looking back.

Since being sidelined by the company, Lin Wei had lost her source of income, relying solely on her past savings to cover her daily expenses.

Her career had been picking up, so she no longer lived in the shared rental house she used to.

But the rent for the apartment she was now leasing was really too expensive. If her career hadn’t taken a hit, she could have afforded the rent, but now with virtually no income, her savings couldn’t support her for much longer.

Actually, she had planned to move out at the end of this month, but she hadn’t expected to stumble upon such a windfall in that unassuming cellphone store...

Returning home, Lin Wei sat on the sofa, looking at the photograph in her hand. She had been staring at it for almost an hour, but the more she looked, the more convinced she became that the person in the photo was Xinan.

This time, she wouldn’t be as foolish as before. This time, she was willing to take a gamble!

When she first got the photograph, Lin Wei had thought about uploading it to the internet and allowing Xinan’s reputation to be ruined.

But she quickly dismissed the idea, knowing that with Cheng Yi’s resources, it would be easy to trace back to her—and she was no fool.

Having experienced so much, Lin Wei was well aware that she didn’t belong in that circle. She had desperately tried to break into it before and ended up in her current predicament. She was truly scared now.

So this time, instead of jeopardizing what she had fought for her entire life, she would rather take a bet.

A deep smile spread across Lin Wei’s face, but her eyes remained devoid of any warmth.

Yes, she decided to make a copy of the photograph and offer it to Cheng Yi to see if he would be willing to pay 50 million for it.

If he agreed, she could get 50 million. And if he didn’t, it would only mean that Xinan wasn’t that important to him after all, and Xinan’s future wouldn’t be pleasant either.

No matter what Cheng Yi decided in the end, she would be the one to benefit. She wouldn’t lose...

On Monday morning, Cheng Yi first went out to meet with two clients, then returned to the company for an impromptu emergency meeting.

His day was almost entirely consumed in busyness, but fortunately, he was intermittently accompanied by news of Xinan.

The meeting lasted roughly five or six hours, ending after eight in the evening.

Back in his office, Cheng Yi reviewed the documents on his desk, signed his name, and was about to close the files and grab his keys to leave when his office door was suddenly knocked.

Cheng Yi glanced at the door and said indifferently, "Bring the documents in, you can call it a day."

Li Xiang entered with a gentle smile, "Mr. Yi, I’m not here for your signature, someone sent you a letter."

A slight frown appeared between Cheng Yi’s brows as he asked, "Who sent it?"

"This letter isn’t signed."

Cheng Yi was initially astounded, then after a moment, he said, "Bring it here."

After delivering the letter, Li Xiang left, and Cheng Yi weighed the letter in his palm—it was light.

He slowly opened the envelope, but instead of a letter, it contained a photograph, one that had been 3D printed.

Cheng Yi turned the photo over, but when he saw the person in the picture, he felt as though he had been struck by lightning.

It took only a second for Cheng Yi to confirm that the person in the photograph was indeed Xinan. Not only did the woman in the photo look exactly like Xinan, but the small mole on her neck was also in the same spot. He had kissed that mole countless times in the night, so he absolutely couldn’t be mistaken.

But how he wished he was just being too sensitive, telling himself that the person in the photo was just another woman who looked a lot like Xinan, not Xinan herself.

Later, Cheng Yi even dared not look at the person in the photo anymore because the Xinan pictured appeared so vulnerable—her clothes torn and ragged, pale skin marked with several scratches, and her face full of bruises, vivid and jarring.

Cheng Yi’s heart suddenly felt incredibly pained, unsure of what to do. The photo appeared to have been taken during Xinan’s college days, so what exactly had she gone through during that time?

He put the photo away and slumped into his chair, his eyes filled with endless sorrow and heartache. This emotion was like a giant hand gripping him tightly, making it hard to breathe.

After some time, he finally calmed down, though his gaze grew darker.

He picked up the mobile phone on his desk and dialed Ye Rui’s number:

"Help me find out who sent me the letter today."

Ye Rui gestured to Li Xiang beside him to keep quiet and then said into the phone, "I’m on it."

"I want all the information on this person by today." After saying this, Cheng Yi hung up.

Seeing this, Li Xiang asked cautiously, "What happened? Does Mr. Yi have something important he needs you to do?"

"Hmm." Ye Rui handed Li Xiang her belongings. "You should take a taxi home today."

Reluctantly, Li Xiang nodded, "Okay, take care, and don’t forget to rest early when you get home."

"Hmm."

As Li Xiang was about to leave, she suddenly turned to Ye Rui, "After this, ask Mr. Yi for a long vacation. We’ve been together for a while now, but you’re always so busy, you never have time for me."

Ye Rui stared at her for a while, then agreed, "Alright, I’ll talk to Mr. Yi about this."

"Ye Rui, you’re the best," Li Xiang said with a smile.

"The taxi’s here, go on." Ye Rui waved down a passing vacant taxi and it pulled over.

After watching Li Xiang get in the taxi, Ye Rui slowly retracted his gaze and then turned to walk towards the building behind him.
