Chapter 145: Chapter 145: I Put Myself Up Against This Place.
Lin Wei steadied her emotions and then looked toward the shop owner, tentatively asking, "Where did you get these photos from?"
The owner glanced at the photos on the wall before returning his gaze and replied, "Got them from someone else."
All sorts of people came into his shop; some came to sell phones, some to sell computers, of course, there were also those who sold photos.
"When did you get this photo?" Lin Wei continued to inquire.
The owner finally looked at her directly, "Why, do you know the person in the photo?"
Lin Wei shook her head, "No, she just looks a bit like a friend of mine."
"Got it several years ago from someone who came in to repair a computer. It’s been so long, I can’t remember clearly," he responded.
He had no recollection of what the person who sold the photos looked like at the time, but that person indeed seemed quite strapped for cash; short on money for computer repairs, they ended up selling the photo.
Lin Wei smiled, "Is that so? Do you only have this one photo?"
"Mm."
Out of fear of arousing the owner’s suspicion, Lin Wei did not speak further, simply waiting quietly at the door.
An hour later, the phone was finally fixed; a new screen made it look as good as new.
Lin Wei took out her wallet and asked, "How much? Including this photo."
The owner lit another cigarette, "Seven hundred."
This time, Lin Wei didn’t haggle with the owner, briskly pulling out seven red notes from her wallet.
In the end, the owner even gave her a pink phone case.
Not long after Lin Wei left, the owner lay back down on the chair, closing his eyes to rest.
But just then, a figure quietly walked in and crouched beside him.
The warm breath brushing against his face made him unconsciously furrow his brow and open his eyes—a delicate, small face came into his view.
The girl closed her eyes, puckering her lips as she leaned towards him.
When the lips were almost touching him, he finally spoke up, "Jiang Yurou, what are you doing?"
Jiang Yurou opened one eye and, realizing the man was already watching her, laughed awkwardly, "No, nothing at all."
The man averted his gaze, "Is there something you need?"
"Do I need a reason to come see you?"
The man said no more.
Jiang Yurou, very much at home, sat on the corner of the chair and cheerfully said, "Well, actually I came to get my phone fixed."
To prove she wasn’t lying, Jiang Yurou also presented her phone, now shattered beyond recognition, "See for yourself."
Zhou Ming looked at the phone, now just scrap metal, then at Jiang Yurou, "This is the sixth time this month you’ve come to fix your phone."
And every time the routine was the same.
"Is that so." Jiang Yurou awkwardly turned her head.
Zhou Ming still sighed in the end, "I’ll see if it can still be fixed."
"Alright!" Jiang Yurou’s face immediately blossomed with joy upon hearing this.
"Don’t deliberately smash your phone next time. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to fix it every time," Zhou Ming said helplessly. He knew this girl had broken many phones just to find an excuse to see him, and even with a lot of money, one couldn’t keep up with such damages!
"Mm..." Jiang Yurou responded softly, yet thought to herself, "That won’t do, otherwise what excuse would I have to come to see you!"
Jiang Yurou turned around and draped herself over the glass counter, staring straight at Zhou Ming, unmoving.
She adored Zhou Ming’s serious demeanor because he looked captivating when focused.
Jiang Yurou’s eyes landed on his chest; the slightly open shirt revealed a hint of wheat-colored skin with a few faint scars that were barely noticeable unless one looked closely.
But even so, to her, he was perfect, at least in Jiang Yurou’s heart.
The phone had been smashed quite severely, and it took Zhou Ming a while to get it to finally turn on. After he fitted a new screen and film, he let out a long sigh of relief.
He handed the phone to Jiang Yurou, "Fixed."
Jiang Yurou’s gaze lingered on his eyes for a moment before slowly shifting down to the phone. The previously shattered device, now indistinguishable from a new one, had actually been repaired by him!
"Brother Zhou Ming, you’re amazing! You’re simply the best person in the world; I really admire you!" Her voice carried excitement and adoration.
"Alright, you’ve laid it on thick enough," Zhou Ming tidied up the counter, long accustomed to Jiang Yurou’s flattery.
Jiang Yurou didn’t feel embarrassed at all and asked with a grin, "How much?"
"That depends on how much money you brought today." Zhou Ming did not tell her that the cost of the repair was enough for her to buy a new one.
"I didn’t bring any money today," Jiang Yurou replied.
She suddenly leaned in closer, her eyes becoming somewhat hazy, "How about this...I’ll stay as a pledge."
The two were only a mere few centimeters apart, Zhou Ming looked into her deep eyes, his Adam’s apple moved silently, but he ultimately looked away, "This place doesn’t take people as collateral. Remember to bring money next time."
Although he had diverted his gaze, he still couldn’t help but glance at her lips again; she seemed to have put on lipstick today, and after a few days without seeing her, she appeared even more beautiful...
Jiang Yurou pulled back with a hint of disappointment, her tone carrying a touch of regret, "Okay then."
Zhou Ming coughed subtly in an attempt to conceal his feelings, "Have you had lunch?"
Jiang Yurou suddenly remembered it was now noon, lunchtime. Zhou Ming’s question clearly meant he wanted to keep her here for lunch. Although she had already eaten, she still said, "No."
Jiang Yurou had expected Zhou Ming to take her back to his place and cook for her personally, feeling a flutter of happiness inside. But when she saw him take out his phone and navigate to a food delivery app, she realized she had been wishful thinking.
How could it be so easy to taste a meal personally cooked by Zhou Ming!
"What do you want to eat?" Zhou Ming asked.
Sitting demurely, Jiang Yurou looked much more obedient, "Anything is fine; I’m not picky."
She wasn’t too hungry as Tan Bo had just taken her for steak before coming here.
Zhou Ming nodded, then added, "How about a simple noodle dish?"
"Sure," Jiang Yurou kept a smile on her face.
The delivery arrived quickly. Jiang Yurou looked at hers, then glanced at Zhou Ming’s, and noticed they weren’t the same.
Hers had a fried egg included, while Zhou Ming’s had nothing, just a plain bowl of noodles.
Jiang Yurou suddenly felt a warm current in her heart, a feeling she had never experienced before—strange yet comforting.
