Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Can We Really Not Talk About It?

Xinan suddenly stiffened, a bit at a loss for words. "How come you suddenly thought to ask this?"

"It just occurred to me," he said.

"It was just a coincidence; I ran into him on the road. He saw I was alone and gave me a ride home."

After she finished speaking, Xinan lightly pushed Cheng Yi and started walking outside, saying, "Let’s not talk about this now; I’m about to get into my act."

Cheng Yi stared at Xinan’s departing figure for a good while before slowly withdrawing his gaze. He furrowed his brows and then followed her out.

Xinan’s reaction was indeed abnormal, which only confirmed the suspicions in his heart.

After sending Xinan back to her apartment that evening, Cheng Yi didn’t rush to drive away. He subconsciously reached into his pocket, but after feeling around for a long time found nothing but his mobile phone. It was then that he slowly remembered that ever since Xinan had told him not to smoke, he hadn’t done so for a long time. So... why would he have cigarettes on him?

Cheng Yi let out a resigned laugh and then called Han Jibai.

The phone was answered after two rings.

"Hello?" Han Jibai’s crisp and pleasant voice came through from the other end.

After the wedding, he had gradually shifted his focus to his family, so he had gone home early to watch a movie with his wife Ran Shasha. Just as the movie reached its climax, his phone rang.

Seeing that it was Cheng Yi’s call, both Han Jibai and Ran Shasha were startled because it had been many years since Cheng Yi had called at this time.

So, without a second thought, he answered the call.

Cheng Yi said indifferently, "Got time to go out for a drink now?"

Han Jibai instinctively exchanged a glance with Ran Shasha, and after seeing her nod, he responded, "Okay."

After giving the location, Cheng Yi hung up the phone and drove away from Xinan’s neighborhood, heading towards the city center.

In Jing City, everywhere you looked there were glittering skyscrapers and a variety of dazzling shops. Along the streets were various high-end luxury stores, upscale restaurants, and entertainment clubs.

Cheng Yi parked the car by the roadside, got out, and walked through these brightly lit buildings and towering skyscrapers into a small pub that was located in a bustling area yet surprisingly tranquil.

As a regular customer, the pub owner greeted Cheng Yi with familiarity and led him to a private room.

Shortly after, Han Jibai appeared at the entrance to the private room.

Seeing this, the pub owner discreetly exited.

Han Jibai sat down, saw the drink already poured for him, picked up the glass, and took a light sip. It wasn’t very strong, not harsh at all.

He set down his glass and looked at the man opposite him. "In my memory, since we graduated from college, the two of us haven’t gathered alone like this."

Because he had left home in a hurry, he had only worn casual clothes and his hair was somewhat messy. Yet, even in such a state, he still exhibited a gentle and refined demeanor.

Cheng Yi lowered his head and smiled: "Yes, it’s been a long time since we’ve gathered."

Han Jibai also smiled. He knew today’s meeting with Cheng Yi must not be for small talk; there must be something he wanted to ask. So he slowly started, "Tell me, are you here because of something to do with Xinan?"

Other than Xinan, he couldn’t think of any other reason Cheng Yi would come to see him.

Since Han Jibai had asked directly, Cheng Yi didn’t beat around the bush. He put down his glass, and his gaze suddenly deepened, "Did something happen the week before Xinan confessed to me?"

Han Jibai’s smile suddenly froze on his face. His brows knitted together tightly, and his mind became a bit chaotic, as if myriad fragments of memories flashed through his mind.

If Cheng Yi had come to him, it meant he must have guessed something.

Han Jibai forced a smile and asked, "Hasn’t Nannan told you?"

Cheng Yi: "I asked her, but she didn’t say."

Han Jibai gave a wry smile and lowered his eyes: "Since she hasn’t told you, then I won’t either. I promised her."

Xinan was like a half-sister to him, so as long as she didn’t want to speak, he would definitely keep her secret.

Seeing Cheng Yi’s growing frown, he added: "It’s not that it’s hard to talk about, but it’s a scar in Xinan’s heart, and I’m afraid bringing it up might hurt her."

The more Han Jibai said this, the more curious and frightened Cheng Yi became, fearing that Xinan had truly been hurt somewhere out of his sight.

"Really can’t tell me?" Cheng Yi asked in a low voice.

"Mhm."

When Han Jibai left, he still left Cheng Yi with a remark, "Have you ever considered that Xinan’s not telling you about it... because of you?"

Cheng Yi thought about this sentence all night. Yes, why did Han Jibai know, but he did not? Was it really because of him?

Was it because she feared his judgment or his misunderstanding? Or perhaps, Xinan was avoiding it, evading the matter.

Cheng Yi had never felt so powerless...

Over the next few days, Cheng Yi continued to take Xinan to the film set every day. Because Xinan had said his car was too conspicuous, he switched it to an Audi the next day, which pleased Xinan greatly. She even went out of her way to compliment him.

And so, a very pleased Mr. Yi treated the whole crew to a meal.

There was also a time when a young actor from the crew, out of who knows what courage, approached Cheng Yi while Xinan was filming and whispered, "You and Sister Xinan make such a good match," before running away.

Later, Cheng Yi overheard someone discussing outside the makeup room: "I’m so envious of Sister Xinan; she gets milk tea delivered by her boyfriend every day. In this hot weather, I’d also love to have milk tea and watermelon."

Cheng Yi glanced through the crack of the door and saw it was the same young actor who had told him, "You and Sister Xinan make such a good match."

In truth, Cheng Yi didn’t remember her face; it was the young actor’s expressive eyes that reminded him of a fifteen-year-old Xinan who used to blink at him similarly while talking.

Then, that day, the entire crew received milk tea and chilled watermelons from Cheng Yi.

Gradually, everyone in the crew took for granted that he was Xinan’s boyfriend.

At first, there was quite a bit of ill will toward Xinan, but someone let slip Cheng Yi’s identity, and almost everyone in the crew knew it, so slowly, no one dared to gossip in the crew anymore.

The crew’s atmosphere instantly improved a lot.

After dropping Xinan home that day, Cheng Yi received a call from Ye Rui. After listening, he hooked a cold smile on his lips, a sharp glint in his eyes, and commanded, "She has been bouncing around for so long, it’s time to wrap things up."

Ye Rui: "Understood, Mr. Yi."
