Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Baby, I’m Chasing You
"That must have cost a lot of money, right?" Xinan looked at the castle-like villa and couldn’t help but marvel.
"It’s okay."
Xinan clicked her tongue twice, knowing that Cheng Yi’s "it’s okay" certainly wasn’t a small sum.
The spot where Cheng Yi had brought her was an excellent location, not only overlooking the entire mountain range but also able to see the towering buildings in the distance. At a glance, the whole city was shrouded in brilliant lights.
Cheng Yi took a moisture-proof mat out of the car, spread it on the ground, then brought a blanket to cover Xinan’s legs.
"When did you bring these?" Xinan asked, somewhat surprised.
Cheng Yi handed Xinan an opened beverage bottle, "I’ve always wanted to bring you here, so I kept these items in the car, just never had the chance."
"Last year, when you said you wanted to take me somewhere, was it... here?"
"No... at that time, this place wasn’t developed yet, and the scenery wasn’t as nice as it is now."
"I see..." Xinan looked at him, "Cheng Yi... on your birthday last year, how did you originally want to spend it?"
So long after, she still brought up this topic.
She wanted to know what she had truly missed that day.
"Do you really want to know?" His smile was somewhat helpless.
"Uh-huh." Xinan nodded affirmatively.
"That day..." Cheng Yi looked up at the sky, seemingly seriously pondering.
"I had booked an entire floor at Haowei Hotel, dressed myself up smartly, all just to wait for the female lead to appear. I was sitting on the sofa for hours, piano music looping over and over by my ear, my face constantly changing expressions—from nervous, excited, anticipative, to angry, disappointed, until finally, despair. If... you had come that day, at twelve o’clock, what I should have heard wouldn’t be the sound of a heart breaking but rather laughter, like fireworks bursting..."
As he talked about those things, Cheng Yi’s expression didn’t change much, as if he was just narrating a story that had nothing to do with him.
But the more indifferent Cheng Yi appeared, the more heartbroken Xinan felt.
She looked at Cheng Yi somewhat apologetically, "I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you would wait for me so long, if it wasn’t for the accident that happened on the way..."
Cheng Yi smiled gently, stroked her head, and replied, "If that accident hadn’t happened, you wouldn’t have been at the hospital that night but rather in my bed."
Xinan, originally feeling quite guilty, heard this and instantly her guilt vanished, her face flushing as she said, "Who would be in your bed, shameless!"
"Alright, alright, I’m the shameless one." Cheng Yi laughed, yet still tried to comfort her, "All that’s past now, Nannan, let’s both look forward together, okay?"
"Okay." Xinan responded.
Just then, a breeze blew by, lifting the ends of her hair and brushing over Xinan’s tender and fair cheeks, making her already rosy and sparkling eyes look even brighter and clearer.
Cheng Yi stared at her for a while before suddenly saying, "Nannan..."
Xinan turned her head towards him, those clear eyes filled with a trace of confusion, "What is it?"
"I’m sorry."
Xinan frowned, "Why bring this up suddenly?"
Cheng Yi’s eyelids drooped, his tone somewhat strained, "Because of some misunderstandings in the past, unintentionally, I did a lot of things that hurt you, pushed you further away, and only now do I realize just how foolish I was... so I hope you can give me a chance to make amends."
Xinan looked at Cheng Yi blankly; she didn’t expect him to say these things because the Cheng Yi she knew was a man too proud to explain himself to anyone or discuss his rights and wrongs with anyone.
So for him to say these things was truly rare.
"How... do you plan to make amends?"
Cheng Yi said, "With the rest of my life. Is that okay?"
Xinan tugged at her lips, "Are you proposing?"
"Do you accept?"
"Of course not!" How could she possibly just so easily agree.
Xinan muttered softly, "You haven’t even pursued me yet."
Hearing this, the corners of Cheng Yi’s mouth suddenly lifted, a doting look on his face as he watched Xinan, "Nannan, I’ve discovered you’re really quite dense."
He suddenly leaned towards Xinan, his nose gently brushing against her cheek, "Baby, I’m pursuing you right now."
Watching Xinan look stunned, a mysterious pleasure filled Cheng Yi’s heart, and he stretched his hand to stroke her fine hair, "Silly girl."
Xinan’s cheeks quietly turned red, "You didn’t say... how was I supposed to know?"
"Oh?" Cheng Yi raised an eyebrow, "Now that you know... can I pursue you?"
"Oh."
Cheng Yi curved his lips, playfully saying, "What does ’oh’ mean? Does it mean ’yes’ or does it not?"
Xinan’s face turned even redder, and she bit her lip and nodded.
In that moment, her heart raced, like a deer thumping about.
The setting sun dipped below the horizon, the remnants of its glow casting her porcelain-white body in a veil-like, ethereal, and beautiful light.
Xinan braced her hands behind her, her eyes gazing up at the sky, watching the sunset, while Cheng Yi watched her.
As night fell and the stars twinkled, Cheng Yi finally took Xinan down the mountain to that manor.
Cheng Yi’s car drove straight in, and as soon as it stopped, an elderly man dressed in a Chinese tunic suit with a cap came out, smiling genially, "Mr. Yi, you’ve arrived?"
Cheng Yi nodded and then introduced Xinan, "This is Uncle Zhang, the housekeeper here."
"Hello, Uncle Zhang." Xinan nodded politely.
"Hello." Housekeeper Zhang revealed a friendly and kind smile.
"Uncle Zhang, we’ll be staying here for the night. Please prepare a room for us," Cheng Yi said.
"No, make it two rooms," Xinan suddenly interjected.
Cheng Yi smiled and then told Housekeeper Zhang, "Make it two rooms, then."
"Alright, Mr. Yi."
After Housekeeper Zhang left, Xinan began to look around the manor. The manor was particularly quiet at night, but it wasn’t dark because various lanterns and colored lights hung all around, making it look very cozy.
Seeing Xinan’s curiosity, Cheng Yi took her for a walk outside.
Because Xinan was wearing a skirt and the night wind was cold, Cheng Yi, worried she would catch a chill, took off his coat and draped it over her.
Not long after, Housekeeper Zhang came out and asked Cheng Yi and Xinan to move to the dining room for dinner, then left them at the door and turned to leave.
Watching Housekeeper Zhang’s departing figure, Xinan asked, "Isn’t Uncle Zhang joining us for dinner?"
Cheng Yi pulled out a chair for her, then took her hand as they sat down, "Don’t worry, he has already eaten."
Xinan thought about it, and it made sense, considering how late it was already.
