Chapter 801: Chapter 801: You Contribute Effort, I’ll Contribute Personnel

"Brother Chen!" Zheng Honghu switched to a smiling face, walked back, sat down, poured a cup of tea for Chen Jiutian, and handed it over with both hands, "I was just messing with you with a little joke earlier!"

"Since we are collaborating and have seen each other’s true intentions, we naturally can’t just call it quits! If Bai Xiaosheng has set you up, he has set me up as well! So what if he is an Affairs Officer? I am still a Senior Affairs Officer here, and I will help you, for sure!" Zheng Honghu vowed decisively.

Chen Jiutian let out a hearty laugh, took the tea, his previously sinister smile now replaced by a sincerely earnest one, "I was joking too, how could I possibly wish harm upon Brother Zheng? We’re all in the same boat here, with many more collaborations in the future, right?"

"Yes, yes!"

The two men looked pleased, clinking cups with tea instead of wine.

After taking a sip of tea, Chen Jiutian put down his cup and said solemnly, "However, that Bai Xiaosheng, he has truly overstepped the line with the Chen Family! He’s nothing but trouble! He might harm you in the future, Brother Zheng, so maybe it’s better to join hands now... and take him down!"

"Striking while his roots are not yet stable is indeed the easiest time!" Zheng Honghu nodded and then hesitated, "But, he has been appointed by the president of the Greater China Region as a New-type Affairs Officer, who is different from the others. To deal with him, we need ’resources’."

This ’resource’ could mean many things, but most importantly, it refers to people and money.

Zheng Honghu sighed, "I’m not afraid to tell you, brother, that until now I have been opposed to this matter. As you know, I... have been dealt a few blows by that old man, my wings have been clipped; to manage a provincial industry leader in Hedong Province, I had to rely on threats and coercion. My other resources are but the coffers for my coffin; surely you wouldn’t want to take away even that last bit of foundation I have, brother."

Chen Jiutian listened and nodded with a smile.

Zheng Honghu’s words, he understood. Touching Zheng Honghu’s lifeline was as fatal as threatening him with evidence. Putting himself in Zheng’s shoes, he too would prefer ruins over compromising his last means of survival.

However, the lack of those resources didn’t mean Zheng Honghu had no value to collaborate. As long as he remained a Senior Affairs Officer, he had plenty of capital and conveniences at his disposal.

"You have status and authority. I have the people, the money, and the resources! Working together, we are bound to succeed!" Chen Jiutian said earnestly.

"But this matter is no trifle, and the people we will need to use must hold positions of authority and be reliable. If we have to resort to threats or bribery like with the provincial industry leader of Hedong, I’m afraid that won’t do!" Zheng Honghu said.

Very cautious!

But the more cautious Zheng Honghu was, the more it signified his sincerity in collaboration.

Chen Jiutian was very satisfied with this. If Zheng Honghu wasn’t cautious, he would have been worried.

"The people I provide you will be my confidants!" Chen Jiutian lowered his voice, his eyes gleaming, "Brother, I’m laying all my cards on the table for you! That’s trust, isn’t it?"

"But, brother, you’re also holding the key to my life! I know your confidants, yet how could I expose you? Moreover, the president of the Greater China Region doesn’t trust me either!" Zheng Honghu said with a wry smile, "I’m more afraid of a fish dying in the net than you are!"

These words made Chen Jiutian burst into laughter.

Right now, it’s better to be the villain first and the gentleman later; having a hold on each other’s lifeline would clarify the reality of being in the same boat and foster full cooperation!

Chen Jiutian had made up his mind; he would reveal no more than thirty percent of his confidants to Zheng Honghu.

"That should be enough to take down Bai Xiaosheng!" Chen Jiutian thought to himself.

First, he needed to nail down this deal, forcing Zheng Honghu to agree. Without Zheng Honghu’s agreement, nothing else mattered. On the other hand, once Zheng Honghu agreed, they could decide on a plan and then have him assist with the scheming.

As long as Zheng Honghu was involved, the two of them could work together to take down an Affairs Officer. Zheng Honghu, the Senior Affairs Officer, would then be utterly bound to the war chariot of the Chen Family.

Losing a provincial industry leader but gaining a Senior Affairs Officer as an ally was a win for the Chen Family!

Chen Jiutian was quite satisfied with this.

"Brother Zheng, once this is accomplished, we will truly be one family!" Chen Jiutian raised his teacup.

"In that case, here’s to a successful collaboration!" Zheng Honghu said with a smile, lifting his teacup.

"To success in our collaboration!"

The two once again used tea in place of wine and drained their cups in one gulp, bursting into hearty laughter.

The alliance, which had seemed so precarious, was now bonded again and even stronger than before.

At least, it appeared that way.

While Chen Jiutian and Zheng Honghu enjoyed their lively conversation, in the office of Lin Weiwei at Zhongjing Media.

Lin Weiwei had fallen asleep, slumped over her desk.

She was exhausted. Having not closed her eyes for almost two days and a night, she couldn’t stay awake any longer.

Even in her sleep, her brows were furrowed, her face visibly etched with worry and anxiety.

Someone tiptoed over and gently covered her with a jacket.

Such a light touch still managed to wake Lin Weiwei.

She suddenly sat up, looked at the clothes on her body in confusion, and upon seeing the person before her, she stood up, her expression overflowing with excitement, "Xiaosheng!"

The one covering her was Bai Xiaosheng.

"I woke you up," Bai Xiaosheng said, slightly embarrassed, and with a smile, added, "That’s good. Go back to sleep. I heard that you haven’t been home all night, nor have you gotten any rest."

Bai Xiaosheng was deeply moved by Lin Weiwei’s loyalty and dedication.

"When did you come back, the evaluation..." Lin Weiwei, disregarding herself, asked Bai Xiaosheng first.

"The evaluation is over," Bai Xiaosheng said.

"So we..." Lin Weiwei looked anxious.

"We won!" Bai Xiaosheng gave her a gentle smile, beaming with pride, "Now, you should call me Affairs Officer Bai! Because after the performance review tomorrow, I’ll be a true Affairs Officer!"

"Really, that’s great!" Lin Weiwei’s pale little face was flushed with excitement, hardly able to contain herself as she lunged forward and hugged Bai Xiaosheng, cheering excitedly.

Bai Xiaosheng was momentarily startled, then smiled gently.

Counting the time, he had been in Zhongjing, at Zhongjing Media, serving as deputy head for three months, then promoted to general manager, another three months to help Zhongjing Media win the title of provincial benchmark enterprise, and another three months to become an Affairs Department Officer for the Greater China Region!

Just nine months in all!

From a subsidiary’s deputy head to an Affairs Officer!

At such a pace, who else could there be!

Even Bai Xiaosheng couldn’t help feeling a bit proud of himself!

"And going forward, I wonder how long it will take for me to become a Senior Affairs Officer, or even... the level of President of the Greater China Region!" Bai Xiaosheng thought to himself, "When Xuelian left, I promised her three years. Now, there are still two years and three months to go! I wonder how far I can get in my career by then!"

As Bai Xiaosheng mused, there was a knock at the door.

Someone then pushed the door and entered.

The person looked up to see Lin Weiwei hugging Bai Xiaosheng and paused, a flash of embarrassment crossing his originally joyful face.

"Should I go out first?"

The newcomer was Lei Ying, who had returned "with a full load."
