Inheritance of Two Trillion -
Chapter 1050: The Theft Incident
Chapter 1050: Chapter 1050: The Theft Incident
Upon checking into the hotel that day, Bai Xiaosheng and his two companions stayed in their room to study the documents, examining the "solid evidence" that incriminated Chen Yucheng.
The evidence was detailed, accurate, and seemingly airtight.
Even more striking, some pieces of evidence subtly corroborated each other.
"Truly perfect!"
Even Bai Xiaosheng couldn’t help but marvel.
Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying were at a loss for a while.
Seeing the two a bit disheartened, Bai Xiaosheng comforted them with a smile, "Although we don’t have an abundance of time, there is no need to find an entry point or breakthrough right away."
"We can study these materials over and over again, until we know them by heart."
"The more we read, the more we think, and the ideas will naturally emerge."
"Moreover, I want to find an opportunity to talk to these people tomorrow or the day after!"
A hint of anticipation shone through Bai Xiaosheng’s smile.
"I have to meet those two provincial industrial leaders and that Chen Yucheng."
"Perhaps a chat with them could provide some unexpected insights!"
Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying nodded one after another.
They naturally agreed with Bai Xiaosheng’s thoughts.
There wasn’t much happening that day.
As for the night, there was no conversation.
The next day, Bai Xiaosheng got up early.
Just after freshening up, someone knocked on the door.
He opened it to find Lin Weiwei standing at the entrance.
"Xiaosheng, sorry, I couldn’t bring you breakfast," Lin Weiwei said with an apologetic face. "The hotel has a buffet on the first floor, free with a room card, but you can’t take food out."
Bai Xiaosheng smiled, "No worries, I’ll go down to eat. It’ll be good to walk a bit more and get some exercise. Have you eaten yet? What about Lei Ying?"
"I’ve eaten. Lei Ying even earlier; when I went down, I saw him already out. He said he was going for a morning exercise," Lin Weiwei replied.
Even after entering the workforce, Lei Ying hadn’t slacked off in his training.
A ten-kilometer run morning and evening, still weighted with lead-filled sandbags, was a staple of his routine.
Who knew what more extreme exercises he did behind closed doors.
For those who practice martial arts, the most important thing is to build strength and condition their bodies.
Bai Xiaosheng understood.
He let Lin Weiwei come in to rest a bit and look over the materials.
Then Bai Xiaosheng went downstairs to eat by himself.
They were staying on the fifteenth floor, and the elevator took a long time to arrive.
In the morning, it seemed that quite a few people were heading down for breakfast.
The elevator was packed with people, easily over twenty.
Men and women of various appearances.
Bai Xiaosheng glanced around.
Standing in an arc around the edge, he could just fit himself in.
At the front of the semi-circle, there were three people side by side.
On the far left was a hotel staff member, always smiling, who nodded politely when Bai Xiaosheng got on.
In the middle was a man in his forties, fair-skinned, with a gentle smile and distinguished demeanor.
And on the far right stood a man in a crisp suit, looking haughty, like some high-level white-collar worker.
After Bai Xiaosheng entered, the elevator descended smoothly.
During the wait, accompanied by a "ding", it reached the first floor.
Bai Xiaosheng stepped out of the elevator, and just a few steps away, he heard a scream from behind.
"My wallet is gone!"
The voice was incredibly sharp.
Even Bai Xiaosheng turned around in surprise.
The people coming down from the elevator also looked over curiously.
The man in the crisp suit, looking arrogant, was frantically patting his right pocket with an incredulous expression.
Then he turned, furious, toward the people around him, shouting, "Don’t go, nobody leave!"
"When I got on the elevator, my wallet was still there. How could it be gone as soon as I got off!"
"One of you must have stolen my wallet!"
His angry shout made everyone exchange glances.
It’s uncomfortable for anyone to be suddenly suspected as a thief.
"Are you crazy? I lose my wallet, and you’re not letting us leave, get real," someone retorted, trying to leave.
"Whoever walks away is the thief!" the suited man declared forcefully.
The person who wanted to leave got angry when he noticed everyone staring at him, "Why the hell are you looking at me! Am I the thief? Fine, I won’t leave! Let’s find the thief then!"
With such a commotion, Bai Xiaosheng also couldn’t leave and had to watch from the edge of the crowd.
Right beside Bai Xiaosheng was the man who had ridden the elevator with him, that calm and composed gentleman.
The man glanced at Bai Xiaosheng, who naturally also looked back at him.
Amidst the people’s schadenfreude or impatience,
only these two remained calm and unfazed.
As if attracted by each other’s composed demeanor, they exchanged a knowing smile.
Bai Xiaosheng didn’t realize that the man beside him was Chen Yucheng!
And Chen Yucheng didn’t know that he was standing next to Bai Xiaosheng!
Amid the argument, two security guards hurried over, one of them the chief of security.
"What’s going on?!" the chief of security demanded urgently.
The man who had lost something immediately explained the situation.
Theft!
To have one’s pockets picked, in this hotel, after so many years of such incidences being nonexistent.
The security chief was equally dumbfounded.
After a moment, the security chief said, "Sir, please don’t panic. Can you remember when you last had your wallet and who were standing beside you?"
This seemed somewhat like an attempt to identify suspects.
"What do you mean, you suspect us?"
"Why should standing close be grounds for suspicion?"
Those who were about to be suspected, of course, did not take it well and started shouting.
The atmosphere became chaotic.
"Let’s just call the police then! My wallet had important items in it as well as cash. It must be found!"
The man who had lost his wallet shouted loudly.
"Right, call the police!"
"Call the police, call the police!"
The onlookers started to clamor.
"What is this?!" Suddenly, someone exclaimed.
Everyone looked over.
The hotel employee in the elevator was deathly pale, holding a wallet in his trembling hands.
It seemed he had just taken it out of his pocket.
"This is my wallet!" The man who had lost his wallet snatched it away and quickly flipped through it.
"It was you!" He grabbed the other man by the collar and shouted to those nearby, "Everyone, look, this is their hotel staff, a thief."
All at once, there was a public uproar.
No one liked being falsely accused.
But seeing the thief caught, and it being a member of the hotel staff.
Suddenly, everyone’s "blood" and "sense of justice" was aroused, and they began pointing fingers and denouncing the hotel employee.
"I can’t believe it, a hotel employee turned out to be a thief!"
"The moment we talked about calling the police, it was found, obviously out of fear!"
"My God, this is a den of thieves!"
"In that case, the hotel has to give an explanation!"
Many people even raised their phones to record the scene.
"It wasn’t me, I didn’t take it, I don’t know why it was in my pocket!" The employee looked terrified and kept explaining.
Unfortunately, no one listened to him.
Seeing is believing, the evidence was irrefutable!
Could there be any doubt?
The crowd became even more incensed, demanding to call the police and for the hotel to provide compensation.
It seemed to inspire the man who had lost his wallet, who immediately nodded, "Right, they should compensate us!"
All of a sudden, the crowd reached a consensus and grabbed the security chief.
The security chief was sweating profusely and at a loss for what to do.
After all, his side was in the wrong.
The evidence was conclusive!
Their anger was not to be trifled with!
"What’s going on here!" The crowd parted as the hotel manager hurried over.
Upon his arrival, he was immediately besieged.
People were talking all at once, explaining the situation, making accusations, and cursing.
Upon learning the truth, the hotel manager broke out in a cold sweat!
This was not just an incident affecting one or two employees; it would have an impact on the entire hotel!
So many witnesses had turned it into an undeniable fact. Was there any point in asking further?
The situation had to be handled properly!
And quickly!
It was best to settle the matter quietly!
Just as hospitals feared medical disputes, hotels dreaded reputation damage.
"Sir, please come to my office so we can deal with this. I will definitely provide you with a reasonable explanation," the hotel manager pleaded with the man.
Now, settling privately was best!
Better than letting it get out!
The hotel employee, whose collar was being gripped by the victim, was now a mess of tears and snot, crying out desperately.
His voice was filled with despair.
"It was not me!"
"I truly didn’t steal it!"
"Really, it wasn’t me!"
Unfortunately, no one paid him any attention.
Even the hotel manager, supposedly one of his own, turned a blind eye to his cries.
Treating him as if he was of no consequence!
Chen Yucheng’s gaze turned cold as he took a step forward, but he heard someone speak out before him, their voice clear and sharp—
"Wait a minute!"
"The thief is not him!"
Bai Xiaosheng stepped forward.
