Chapter 78: The Race

The Kings Super Sprinter was already widely known in Cloudbridge City and even New Wiston at large as one of the fastest supercars. Many said only the likes of Lamborghinis, Porsches, and some Mercedes-Benz models could be slightly faster or even match the speed of the Sprinter. It had been building a strong foundation for Kings Automobile.

It was just a matter of time before Kings would rise to the standard of car brands known worldwide, revealing their successful growth.

Now, a Nova X, which had only been produced a few days ago from the already crumbling Zintech Automobile, was trying to face off against it?

Almost everyone doubted the possibility of Jayden winning the race. They had even started making bets about it before it began.

There was a race track somewhere inside campus, where racers loved to show off the power of their beasts. Jayden had never been there before due to not initially having a car...

It was clear... Only the guys with supercars were welcomed on the race tracks. But now, Jayden was already known to have become a big shot in town, and even though almost everyone doubted his Nova X, they were still interested in watching whatever he had to show.

A large crowd had already gathered, almost all the students in the Business Department and many from the others.

There had been more bets on Royce than on Jayden, definitely not because they liked Royce, but because they believed he had a clear chance of winning.

Camilia was the one anchoring the race, and she ordered both cars to get in line. The whole place was filled with curious and excited eyes, eager to see what kind of fun this would bring.

It had been long since such an event was held...

Jayden and Royce who were widely known as greatest enemies from the start...

Everyone just wanted to see who would get the upper hand today.

When Jayden reached his track, Camilia approached him with a smile and leaned her head into the window of his car.

"Hey."

"Hey," Jayden smiled back.

"Uhh, well... I’m just one of the few people who believe you can win this. Don’t fail us, my love," Camilia said.

Jayden nodded at once with a confident look. At that instant, Camilia gave him a soft kiss before withdrawing and walking up to the middle of both cars.

Royce, on the other hand, was being advised by Richy, who had quite a nervous look on his face.

"You’ve got this, bro. If you lose, we’re both cooked. It would be—"

"Shameful... Yeah, I know. But it angers me when you act like you don’t believe in me. I feel like punching your nose right now," Royce interrupted, glaring at Richy.

Richy quickly flinched and composed himself before nodding.

"Right. I believe in you... I really do. Give that bastard the gap of his life so he’ll never get half-close to you again," Richy said, giving Royce a bro handshake.

He left right after.

And now, it was time.

VRAAAAAAAM!

VROOOOOMMM!

Both cars warmed up, causing a stir of excited reactions from the sides.

Camilia held a blue handkerchief high above her head, staring at both cars... and then, the moment she slashed it down...

The race began.

The Sprinter launched forward at once like a fired bullet, its rear tires screaming smoke. Jayden followed immediately but fell behind in the first five seconds.

The crowd cheered, clearly because the anticipated winner was already taking the lead.

"Woohoo! Look at that! Royce took the early lead!"

"Well anticipated, no question!"

"Come on, Royce! My hundred thousand is in your hands!"

Jayden didn’t feel frustrated after seeing Royce take the lead. In fact, he had actually allowed that...

The Sprinter dashed forward with incredible speed, still giving the Nova X an actual gap. Jayden just maintained a fifteen-meter distance, not wanting to overtake at this point.

The crowd already believed there was no way Jayden could catch up, judging by the fact that he hadn’t gotten close enough, much less thought about overtaking.

However, things seemed to change when they reached the first turn.

Jayden quickly made a wide drift, aiming to make a swift overtake, but to his shock, Royce did well to block him.

Jayden glared. "You son of a bitch!"

At the next turn again, Jayden tried the same move but got brake-checked, stopping him from going through.

"STAY IN YOUR LANE, POOR BOY!"

Jayden heard the shout that turned into a whisper toward him, but he wasn’t rattled.

After realizing the first move wouldn’t work, he got another idea, one that made him smile.

<Zero Input mode activated!>

Jayden swiftly activated the Zero Input, which clearly beat human intelligence by being faster to calculate. It would execute any move quicker, and now, Jayden wouldn’t need to control it manually.

When they reached the third turn, Royce had already prepared to make another block, when the Nova X suddenly dashed past him before he even attempted drifting.

The crowd at the far side shouted in awe.

"Jayden overtook! WHOA! That’s insane!"

"OH MY... The way he got past him... Am I dreaming or something?"

"That was wilder than a Lambo. What a pass!"

Royce’s eyes widened as he saw Jayden pass him in the blink of an eye.

In an instant, he quickly caught the slipstream, and on the next chance, he nudged the rear bumper of the Nova X, almost throwing the car off balance.

Just like that, Royce got back into the lead, passing Jayden again.

"I TOLD YA! YOU’RE NOT BUILT FOR THIS! LOSERS WILL ALWAYS LOSE!"

Jayden clenched his teeth and heaved a rough sigh. He had expected such an act from someone like Royce, so he wasn’t surprised.

The finish line wasn’t far off anymore, and he had to do something to reach it before Royce. He couldn’t afford to lose.

Ain’t no way...

All his life, he had always been the loser...

Royce had always preyed on him, and now, it was enough.

It was his time to win... Starting from today.

"Hey, Nova. Time to test your brain."

Jayden quickly activated the road map simulator.

<Projective Road-mapping Engaged.>

An image floated in midair at once, showing the entire map of roads within a 30 KM range. Jayden quickly ordered a clear show of the track field only, which it did in less than a second.

Jayden now had full terrain awareness... Every curve was shown, and the most incredible part was that the projector gave directions on what to do at each section.

That was the great intelligence of MIND, and Jayden was deeply amazed.

He followed every step.

At that point, he went ahead to connect the Zero Input and the Projector together, making them work in sync.

With the Zero Input’s super-fast action and the Projector’s guidance, things went far better than expected.

When Royce thought he had already won, the Nova X roared toward him, and just before his eyes, it zoomed past the Sprinter with insane speed, grabbing a clear lead.

That moment when he was just meters away from the finish line. That moment when he was about to start mocking Jayden for losing...

Everything flashed before Royce’s eyes, leaving his mouth agape.

There, in the end, the Nova X reached the finish line, giving the Sprinter about five clear seconds to catch up.

The crowd erupted in wild cheers, the atmosphere exploded.

Just like that, Jayden Cole beat Royce Kingsley in the race, shaming him in front of everyone.

That was a topic that blew up... but it wasn’t the only one in the end.

In the end, many couldn’t get their eyes off the Nova X they had initially underrated.

All were interested.
