Chapter 57: Miss Ten Days

Sofia decided to resume lectures fully, trying to leave the past aside.

She adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder and walked through the campus gate, trying to keep her head high. But no matter how straight she stood, she could feel it... the eyes. So many of them. Whispering. Watching. Mocking.

She had always known that students loved gossip. It was the campus’s heartbeat. Scandals and rumors spread faster than any news bulletin. But today, she wasn’t just hearing the gossip; she was the headline.

As she walked down the paved walkway, the first few whispers hit her ears like tiny arrows.

"That’s her. Sofia."

"Yeah, the girl Royce dumped like trash after just ten days."

"And for her best friend, no less!" a girl giggled from behind her.

Sofia’s heart twisted. She clenched her jaw and tried not to react, focusing her eyes on the building ahead.

But the voices kept coming.

"I heard Royce used to sleep with her like five times a day, bro. He finished her."

"Man, she must’ve been desperate. And still, he dumped her like she was nothing."

Laughter followed, cruel and sharp like broken glass under bare feet.

Sofia could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. She wanted to disappear, to vanish into thin air, but instead, she kept walking. Step after painful step. She tried to remind herself that it would pass, that people would find someone else to talk about soon enough.

But deep inside, she knew they wouldn’t. Not anytime soon.

As she approached the lecture hall, she saw a few familiar faces glance her way, some pretending not to notice her, others openly staring with amused smirks. Even people she barely knew suddenly had an opinion about her private life.

They all seemed to enjoy watching her fall.

Entering the classroom was even worse.

The second she stepped inside, the air felt heavy. Conversations hushed, and then immediately picked up again... only this time, louder, more intentional.

"There she is," someone whispered loud enough for her to hear.

"Miss Ten Days."

Sofia bit her lower lip, forcing herself not to cry as she walked to her seat. But before she could even sit, Royce’s voice rang out from the front of the class.

"Well, well, well... Look who finally made it to class."

A few students chuckled.

She tried to ignore him, but Royce wasn’t done. His smirk was wide, smug, and venomous. The man who had once held her hand was now her greatest source of humiliation.

"Come on, Sofia, don’t be shy," he said mockingly. "You should feel proud. I mean... ten days? That has to be some kind of record, right?"

More laughter erupted around the class.

Sofia’s chest tightened. Her breathing grew uneven, but Royce continued, encouraged by the attention.

"You know, guys, I honestly thought she was different," he said, turning to face the class like some stand-up comedian performing for a hungry audience. "But you give her a little attention and suddenly... she starts clinging like glue. You text her good morning, and she starts dreaming about wedding bells."

BWAHAHAHA!

The room erupted with laughter again. Some students clapped, others covered their mouths, giggling uncontrollably.

Sofia’s vision blurred as the tears started pooling in her eyes. But Royce wasn’t finished.

"And Richy," he said, glancing over to his friend, "you remember what you told me when you first saw her?"

Richy grinned wickedly. "Yeah, bro. I said: ’Damn, she looks loyal... until you realize she’s loyal to whoever has the bigger wallet!’"

The laughter this time was louder. It echoed through the lecture hall, bouncing off the walls and stabbing into Sofia’s heart like daggers.

Her lips quivered. She tried desperately to hold back the tears, but they betrayed her, streaming down her cheeks. She stood frozen for a moment, her legs shaking as more mocking voices whispered and laughed behind her.

"Pathetic."

"She thought she was special."

"How embarrassing..."

"I almost feel sorry for her."

"No, don’t. She deserves it."

She couldn’t take it anymore.

Sofia suddenly grabbed her bag, turned sharply, and stormed out of the classroom, tears flowing freely now as gasps followed her exit. The moment the door closed behind her, her sobs broke through completely.

She ran blindly down the hallway, barely able to see where she was going. Everything was spinning.

Pain...

Shame...

Humiliation...

She had never felt so exposed, so naked in front of so many people.

It felt as though her entire world was collapsing before her own eyes.

And worst of all, it felt like she had no one to run to.

The ones she had trusted were the very people who destroyed her.

There, deep in her heart, she was totally broken. And literally, she madly regretted leaving Jayden.

******

While he was on a task, Jayden had decided to try completing another. The next day with Lynna was smooth.

He took her to an automobile store and got her a Mercedes-Benz G-Class G63 AMG for $260,000.

Lynna was deeply stunned.

"Why did you get this for me? I never asked," she questioned.

Jayden only shrugged and gave a random reply.

"You’re the new General Accountant of my company. It’s part of the policy to get one of the top staff a car," Jayden said, rolling his eyes.

It was another thing Lynna didn’t expect, but she dared not reject it.

[Harem member Lynna Hartley has an update on the Affection bar!]

[Affection: 35.]

The result was good, having her affection rise greatly. With a few more impressions, his business with her would be fixed, and Jayden just couldn’t wait.

...

After that, Jayden took the renovation task. It was another Silver Level Task with great rewards, so he had to make a move.

Aside from the fact that it was a task, Jayden had also wanted to renovate the house. After almost fifteen years of being abandoned, the Cole Family mansion was already looking like a haunted house.

Jayden couldn’t bear the shame anymore. He had to step up as the new Mr. Cole, and with his ambition to revive the glory of his family, starting with rebuilding their home was the best move.

While he drove towards Eastview, his phone beeped for a call.

{Incoming Call: Melinda}

Jayden quickly picked up.

"Yes?" he said softly.

"I already carried out your orders, sir. We already got her a maid and all the resources she needs," Melinda stated with a bold tone.

"Great. Thanks, Melinda," Jayden smiled.

"Also..."

He was about to hang up before she added.

He was all ears.

"She... Lydia. She kept talking about your mother. Said you should forgive her... I think she knows her," Melinda stated, her voice holding a sense of curiosity.

"Didn’t know... I will try to know better later. I have to go now," Jayden sighed roughly before ending the call.

With a tense face, he drove on.
