Chapter 61: Revenge Or Forgiveness III

Yuki’s voice came as a whisper—low and devoid of mercy.

Haruka’s eyes widened, and she slowly turned her head towards the window without breathing.

She didn’t even dare. She was terrified that if she did, Yuki would freeze her without batting an eye.

Just then, Ryuen poked his head down, hanging upside down from the ledge with a smile.

In his hand, he held the blue bow, the arrow already nocked and drawn.

"Hey."

"H...hi. Uh, you weren’t..." Haruka trailed off when Yuki’s fingers crawled up her arm.

Then swung over her arm over her shoulder, causing a short gasp to escape her lips.

"Don’t think I didn’t hear what you said. I’m not actually mad at you."

"What you said when you thought I left, just showed how much of a green snake you are."

"I’m sorry. I was just angry. I promise I won’t do it again," Haruka apologized, with sincerity laced in her tone.

Ryuen smiled.

"I forgive you..."

She exhaled in relief and lowered her head.

But then—he pulled the arrow back further.

"...is what the old Ryuen would do. And besides, I never said I was letting you go."

Before she could react, he released the arrow with a smile—a sinister one.

SWOOSH.

A sharp, searing pain erupted in her chest as the arrow pierced through her left side, burying itself deep into her lungs.

Blood slowly sputtered from her parted lips, and her body froze.

With trembling hands, she clutched the wound, her teeth tightly clenched.

"Bastard," she whispered, still able to speak despite the pain.

"I hope you rot in hell, Ryuen. And in my next life, I’ll make sure you fall in love with me—to the point where you become my slave."

She spoke all in one breath, then chuckled softly.

"This is not the end."

Ryuen scoffed, the bow in his hand vanishing. Then, he glanced at Yuki.

"You can handle her," he mouthed, and waved, "Bye, Haruka."

And just as swiftly as he had appeared, he was gone.

Before darkness overtook Haruka, she caught a glimpse of something else—three sharp, glistening needles of ice floating in the air.

Yuki Onna stepped forward, fingers raised, each holding a shard of ice.

"To think he actually cared about a filthy human like you," she mused, flipping and turning the shards like a staff.

"I would have spared you if he told me to... but alas..."

A chilling smirk formed on her lips as she created more ice needles.

"This is what happens when you touch what is mine," she whispered.

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Haruka Arai."

Ryuen landed gracefully on the palace floor from the ceiling and dusted himself off.

He began taking slow strides down the halls, hands tucked in his pockets, eyes closed.

A satisfied hum left his lips as he moved.

It wasn’t long before he reached his next destination—Jun’s chambers.

As he pushed the unlocked doors open, he was met with a scene that brought a smile to his lips.

The sight before him was almost amusing. It just lacked something.

Jun was pinned against the wall, struggling weakly to keep himself upright and avoid causing himself more pain.

His arm was stretched above his head, tied.

But what weapon was holding him in place?

A pen.

Stabbed through his sleeve and deep into the wooden paneling.

Seated before him, utterly relaxed, with a cup of steaming coffee in one hand, was Yurei.

She twirled another pen in her fingers, silver eyes fixed on Jun with a glimmer of satisfaction in them.

"Come on now, Jun," she said after a long silence since Ryuen had walked in.

Her lips curled into a smirk as she placed the cup down.

"You can make this easy, or I add another one."

Ryuen chuckled, leaning against the door near her. "She’s giving you a friendly option—at least compared to what she will actually do."

And that was true.

If he hadn’t trained himself to sense movements while blind, she would have given him painful hits.

And she wasn’t even using half or even a quarter of her power.

Yurei’s gaze shifted to him briefly before moving back to Jun, who just stared at her blankly.

"You’re late."

"I had business to finish, and I had to spend some more time."

Jun gritted his teeth, his gaze darting between them. "Bastards..."

Ryuen merely shrugged. "Let’s get started, shall we?"

The silver-eyed woman simply hummed and shifted slightly in her seat, still playing with the pen between her fingers.

"First question," she said nonchalantly, tapping the pen against her palm.

"Why did you turn me into a slave when I was here?"

"Because that’s the only good thing you’re known for."

She scoffed and raised the pen. "Wrong answer."

Without hesitation, she flicked the pen, aiming for another part of his body.

And surprisingly, it was perfectly accurate—it stabbed into his thigh, deep.

Jun grunted and jerked but made no sound.

His jaw was clenched, and his eyes were shut tightly, refusing to scream.

Ryuen, meanwhile, was completely uninterested in the interrogation.

He wandered around the room casually, searching through Jun’s belongings.

There was a shelf lined with books, but he ignored them and moved toward a locked chest instead.

"You could make this painless, you know," Yurei continued, now reaching for another pen inside her coat.

Jun scoffed and spat blood onto the floor. "Go to hell."

She smiled. "I’ll save you a seat."

Another flick.

And the pen sank deep into his other thigh.

Jun let out a sharp exhale, clenching his fists tightly, fighting back the pain.

Ryuen, still rummaging through Jun’s things, finally found what he was looking for.

A familiar dagger—Jun’s dagger. The very one that had been used to stab him in the dungeon.

He ran his fingers along the blade, remembering the pain it had caused him then.

"Found it," he uttered and tucked the dagger away.

He had initially wanted to use it on Jun, but seeing as Yurei already had her own method, he decided to keep it for future purposes.

Yurei spared him a glance before returning her attention to Jun.

"Next question. Where’s the crystal?"
