Chapter 29: Camping Gone Wrong

"Run!!!"

Instinctively, Asher screamed at the top of his voice, pulling out his sword as fast as he could. He tried to keep his composure, but just as he reacted to the beast with a desperate cry, it retaliated.

The Night Terror, a monstrous entity with three faceless heads, pulled back before raising a massive paw. With terrifying speed, it swung at Asher.

The attack was too fast. Too sudden. There was no time to evade.

Asher barely managed to bring up his sword in defense, but the sheer force behind the beast’s blow was overwhelming. The impact tore through him, sending him hurtling through the air.

A deafening boom echoed as his body smashed through a stone wall, breaking it apart in an explosion of rubble.

"Ngh—!"

Blood splattered the ground where Asher landed. His vision blurred, his body numb.

Nimora felt her chest tighten at the sight. The strings of her heart were being pulled apart.

"Asher!—"

She barely had time to scream before one of the Night Terror’s heads snapped towards her, its faceless maw twisting in a snarl—disgusted yet amused by the two remaining prey in its path.

Nimora did not care what kind of monster it was.

With a fierce glare, she pulled out her double blades, adjusting her stance to complement her lightning-fast movements.

Taking a long breath, she exhaled. Dark fumes of energy pulsed from the edges of her blades, seething with her rage.

Beside her, Fey did the same. He unsheathed his sword in a slow, deliberate motion, his aura flickering and swelling.

From every possible angle, they were outmatched. This thing was beyond them.

But the options were clear—either they ran and died on their backs or they died fighting.

And that wasn’t the Exorcist way.

The Night Terror finally acknowledged them. Its three heads locked onto them with an eerie synchronization. Then—

It charged.

Nimora didn’t hesitate. She rushed forward, her feet barely touching the ground.

The Night Terror attacked first. One of its heads lunged at her, its speed monstrous.

But Nimora had seen faster.

In an instant, she veered sharply to the right. The beast’s jaw slammed into the ground, cracking the earth where she had stood.

A perfect opening.

She spun mid-air, her blade flashing as she brought it down—

But something blurred.

The Night Terror’s second head struck her without warning.

It happened so fast, she only registered the pain after she had already been sent flying.

The impact crushed into her ribs, knocking the breath from her lungs. She crashed into a nearby wall with a loud thud, sliding down onto her knees.

Coughing, blood dripped from her lips.

"Damnit!" she cursed, forcing herself up despite the pain. "What the hell is with this thing—"

Her vision swayed. She was far from done.

Now, it was Fey’s turn.

Unlike Nimora, he had not charged in recklessly. He had watched, his grip on his sword tightening.

Now, he simply let out a slow breath. His sword aura burned brighter, shifting.

His gaze snapped to his blade.

"Is that it?"

A sudden change—the aura around his sword twisted, its glow shifting white.

The beast charged at him next, claws aiming to tear him apart.

It had learned. It wouldn’t use its heads.

The massive paw descended upon him.

Fey waited.

He didn’t move.

Not until it was a foot away from his head.

Then—

He struck.

[Critical Attack]

An eerie silence fell.

For a split second, the air froze—the entire ten-meter radius surrounding Fey engulfed in a crushing pressure.

A sharp arc of white light cleaved through the darkness.

In that one instant, Fey’s blade cut through the beast’s paw like a scythe through flesh.

A grotesque tearing sound echoed.

The severed limb hit the ground with a heavy thud.

The Night Terror staggered back, all three heads trembling. It grunted. It... struggled to believe what had just happened.

It was a boss-class monster. Its thick, armor-like hide had repelled countless Exorcists before. No one had ever cut through it.

And now—a mere child had done it.

Impossible.

But Fey had known.

Watching from the start, he realized the flaw. This thing had three heads. Its vision was wide, but also unfocused. Attacking from the front was foolish.

That’s why he let the beast block first.

He didn’t need to cut through the hide—he only needed to find the right angle.

And when he swung his blade, he gambled everything—shifting his aura into one of absolute sharpness.

Fey adjusted his stance, his hand shifting behind him, his fingers tightening around the sword’s hilt.

"You’ll pay for laying a finger on my friend."

Little did Fey know—what he had just done was an advanced technique.

Aura change wasn’t something taught to even high-ranking Exorcists. Even at his level, it was deemed impossible.

Yet, he had done it instinctively.

---

Asher lay amidst the rubble. Large stones pinned him down, crushing him from every angle.

His body refused to move.

His lungs burned. Every breath was a struggle.

His mind swam in red.

Poison? He tried to think—tried to move.

But... no.

This wasn’t poison.

From another perspective—his entire body was twisted.

His limbs were shattered.

His torso was a grotesque mess, crushed beneath the weight of the collapsed building.

Even if he wanted to—

He couldn’t move.
