Chapter 52: Waiting A Thousand Years For This Moment (1)

"Sorry I’m late." Arthur adjusted the ribbon tie of his suit.

After failing to dress himself properly, he had ended up asking Thyra for help.

And she picked an outfit that looked like what those handsome dukes wore in historical villainess Webtoons.

He just hoped it looked alright on him.

Nathira blushed as she cupped her face. "You look so good."

"Hey, don’t talk like I’m some kind of snack."

Nathira chuckled.

Arthur glanced at the simple outfit she wore. It resembled something from Earth, and oddly, it suited her well.

He turned away, his cheeks warming. "You look really pretty."

She beamed, then extended her hand to him. "Let’s go on our date then."

"Aren’t you afraid someone will see a teacher dating her student?"

Nathira didn’t respond. She tiptoed, using the tips of her flat shoes to raise herself up while tugging on his tie, then kissed him.

"They should record that too," she said with a grin.

Arthur chuckled. ’She’s kind of adorable when she does this.’

He took her extended hand as she pulled him forward.

A single horse stood waiting ahead, without a carriage.

Arthur raised a brow. "No carriage?"

She looked at him as if he’d just spoken another language. "Of course not. I can’t devour you properly that way."

Arthur stared at the horse again. "Nathira, I can’t ride a horse, and neither can you."

As if something had snapped, she stared at the horse intently. "No way... I wanted it to be romantic and..."

Arthur suppressed a laugh. "I like seeing your clumsy side too." He gently patted her head. "You might say you’re a thousand years old, but you’ve got the mind of a twenty-four-year-old."

She lowered her gaze, too embarrassed to meet his eyes. "I’m still older than you though."

He narrowed his eyes playfully. "Today I want you to show me the real Nathira, not the mature one."

"But how are we going to leave in the first place?"

Arthur looked at the horse, which was staring back at him. "Don’t worry. I’m the original copycat, aren’t I?"

He took a step forward, tightening his grip on her hand. "Let me be the husband today, at least."

She nodded. "Yes, the great prince of the Arcains. Take good care of your slow-witted wife."

Arthur cleared his throat, clearly embarrassed. "Please don’t."

Nathira tilted her head. "Why not? Aren’t we in a fantasy world? Or would you prefer I call you Beom-seok Oppa?"

Arthur turned away. "Well... that doesn’t sound too bad."

She grinned. "If you make me happy, I might consider it."

Arthur climbed onto the horse and extended his hand, but Nathira simply leapt up behind him.

Arthur turned and stared at her confused expression.

"What?"

Arthur shook his head. "Aren’t you supposed to act ladylike today?"

She tilted her head. "But this is the real Nathira, the obsessive supreme who’s only ever fallen in love with one man in her thousand years of life."

"Okay, my tomboy wife, let’s go to the movies," Arthur said, pulling on the reins.

Nathira hugged his waist tightly. "Let’s move like a race car."

"I doubt horses can go that fast..."

She pressed herself closer as they moved, the wind muffling her words. "Why not? If we give it some drugs, it might work."

Arthur glanced to his side where she had leaned out her head, then looked back at the road. "If the horse gets spooked, that’s on you."

...

After they left, they wandered through the cobbled streets, her fingers laced with his, stopping by street performers and food stalls.

He watched her laugh as he won her a dragon teddy from a gun shooting game.

It was the first time he saw her so carefree with a warm childlike smile.

They also visited several places: from the market streets to a grand theater to watch a play, and then to an opera.

Both he and Nathira realized something.

They had never done things like this before.

When she was young, all she did was fight. And after the war ended, she was sealed away for a thousand years.

While he had his own problems back on Earth, and when he finally had the courage to date, he died.

Which meant they were each other’s first real date.

After exploring nearly half the city, they ended up at a bakery near an open field.

The store owner stared at him for a moment, then asked cautiously, "Are you perhaps Arthur Arcain?"

Arthur nodded, not thinking much of it.

The woman’s face lit up. "I’m such a big fan of yours!" She pulled out a piece of paper. "Can you sign my autograph?"

As Arthur leaned over to sign it with one hand, still holding Nathira’s with the other, the woman rushed back into her store and called someone.

It was none other than the bookstore owner he’d met before his entrance exam.

Her face brightened as she recognized him, but quickly darkened when she saw Nathira.

Her body trembled. "Hello, Unnie. Hello, Prince Arthur."

Her mother turned to her, examining her reaction. "Didn’t you really want to see the prince?"

The bookstore owner glared at her mother. "Mom, when did I say that? Can’t you see he’s with his girlfriend?"

Arthur swallowed hard and looked at Nathira, who was smiling and waving at the girl. ’What kind of trauma did she leave in her?’ he wondered.

He tightened his grip on Nathira’s hand just enough for her to look at him.

Without speaking, he conveyed his thoughts, and with a smile, she replied.

’What does she mean they just talked?’

The bakery owner sighed. "Seems she’s shy..." She handed them a paper bag filled with baguettes. "Here, it’s on the house."

Arthur wanted to refuse, but Nathira squeezed his hand tighter. "Husband, it’s free. And can’t you see her face?"

Arthur could sense the irritation radiating from her.

He sighed. ’When did I become such a saint?’

Having a lot of money wasn’t always a good thing.

He accepted the bag and bowed politely.

Nathira looked at the bag in his right hand and reached out to steal a piece.

Arthur lifted it out of reach. "No eating on the road."

Her eyes widened. "Why not? It’s just bread."

Arthur shook his head, then pulled out two donuts. He placed one between his lips and handed the other to her.

After sealing the bag again, he asked, "Happy?"

She bit into the donut with a bright smile and nodded contentedly.

Arthur exhaled. ’Seriously, if she keeps acting this cute, I might want her to stay like this forever.’ He shook his head. ’No, this version of her is Arthur’s exclusive.’

The two walked into a small field as Arthur summoned the mat he had used during the entrance exam and laid it out in the middle of the garden-like park.

Nathira, still nibbling on the donut, slowly lay her head in his lap. "Today was fun," she said after swallowing the last bite.

Arthur stroked her hair. "Yeah..." He paused. "Thanks again, Nathira..."

She rolled over so their faces were now opposite each other. "Do you want to do it?"

"What?"

She grinned. "You don’t have any classes today, and I’ve already told Lysandra."

Arthur’s face flushed red as she reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck. "So, do you want to lose your virginity?" She added, "This time for real."

Arthur didn’t answer.

He simply pulled her up, her arms still snug around his neck, and kissed her.

Heat rushed through his entire body, and at that moment, he could feel the difference.

He was doing it for real this time.
