Chapter 47: Arthur Vs Ha-joon (2)

"What did you just say?" Arthur asked.

Ha-joon clicked his tongue repeatedly. "Tsk tsk, I don’t know how exactly you discovered my secrets, but do you really think Cecelia can escape from my grasp that easily?"

He lifted his chin. "I am the goddess’s chosen, don’t you know." He let out a small smile. "And don’t think just because I’ve been restraining my fury, I can’t end you right here."

He shrugged. "We might both be SSS-rank, but I could erase you in a second." His expression turned grim. "That sounds like a good idea. Why don’t I—"

Ha-joon froze mid-sentence as Arthur lowered his head, then broke into a crazed yet restrained laugh.

"Hahahahahaha." He tried to suppress it. "Oh damn, you made my ribs hurt."

Ha-joon narrowed his eyes. "What’s so funny?"

Arthur raised his hand. "Sorry, sorry." He smiled, tilting his head slightly. "But Ha-joon, you don’t actually believe I’m weaker than you, do you?"

He placed a finger over his mouth. "I think you’re confused. The fact that I’ve never confronted you directly doesn’t mean I’m weak."

He smiled faintly. "It means you should be very cautious of me." He added, "And if we were to fight here, Ha-joon..."

Arthur’s tone turned frigid. "I will kill you."

Ha-joon instinctively recoiled.

’He has bloodlust?’ he clenched his teeth. ’How can this insect awaken something I couldn’t?’

Ha-joon knew that was the least of his problems.

At first, he had assumed that he, a mid-level Graduator, would be the strongest among the first-years, since the elite were at most high-level Experts or low-level Graduators.

’You’re telling me this bastard is a high-level Graduator with a yellow core?’ He felt his entire reality collapse.

Everything he thought he once knew crumbled.

His world. His pride.

Everything.

For the first time in both his lives, he felt exposed.

"Bullshit!" He snapped. "You mean to tell me that you, a lesser being, a lowborn creature, are superior to me, Kim Ha-joon? Screw you and screw all of that!" He shouted at the top of his lungs. "I am the goddess’s chosen, dammit!"

Arthur shook his head, a soft chuckle slipping from his lips. "Pathetic. Truly pathetic, Kim Ha-joon."

Arthur couldn’t understand how this guy was the protagonist of a game.

And though they were his wives, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking how foolish they must have been to even feel anything for him.

’A cliché protagonist always ends up becoming a cliché villain,’ he thought. ’Well, I’ve got nothing else to do here.’

Arthur knew he could give some grand speech about not being the goddess’s only chosen, or how the entire history book was fabricated.

But he couldn’t care less what Ha-joon believed about life.

As long as it didn’t threaten his wives, his mother and sisters, his friends, or his clan, then it wasn’t his concern.

Ha-joon, however, felt something ignite inside him as he watched Arthur walk away.

His aura sizzled around him.

’I might not have original energy. I might not possess bloodlust. Maybe not all beauties flock to me, but...’

He conjured a purple blade with his crackling aura. ’But I have a system. A system gifted to me, the chosen one.’

He launched himself into the air, aura coiling around his feet.

Arthur turned, ready to swat him aside.

But in an instant, silver threads wrapped tightly around Ha-joon.

Arthur turned his head to see Nathira emerging from the bushes.

She wasn’t alone. His other five wives were behind her, dressed in their nightgowns.

Even though Ha-joon’s life was on the line, one thought intruded his mind.

They were stunning.

Beneath the moonlight, they looked ethereal, almost otherworldly.

But simultaneously, the weight of everything crashed down on him.

The irrefutable truth.

"They weren’t his. And could never become his."

"They belonged to someone else."

His heart. His face. His entire being writhed in anguish.

He wanted to kill Arthur. He wanted to end his life.

Even as he saw the girls rush to Arthur, checking if he was alright.

Even as he caught their glares, as though he were the one at fault, he still wanted to end him.

But then he felt a cold sensation slide down his throat.

A blade was pressed to him.

Terror.

Primordial terror was what engulfed him in that moment.

The pressure from whoever stood behind him exceeded anything he could comprehend.

It was like the goddess herself was looming over him.

"Kim Ha-joon, this is the final warning I’ll give you." Nathira’s voice was laced with fury, and beneath it, madness.

She leaned in just enough for his suspended self to glimpse her face. "If you touch my Arthur, I won’t just kill you. I’ll torment you for eternity."

She smiled gently, as if she hadn’t just threatened him. "Because of my husband, I’ve been restraining myself. I didn’t even kill that wench who took his first." She traced the Korean symbol of death on his face. "But even I can’t suppress my true nature forever, okay?"

Ha-joon’s body was drenched in sweat, his breaths shallow and frantic.

He saw the figure step closer to Arthur.

Ellie, his classmate, the one he had been watching for some time—kissed Arthur on the cheek and turned to him with a smirk.

’What the hell is going on?’ he thought. ’This isn’t what the goddess promised. Wasn’t I supposed to be king?’

...

Arthur, trying his best to free himself from his wives’ embrace, turned to Ha-joon.

With a flick of his finger, the thread binding Ha-joon split into several strands.

He cast him one final glance before walking away. ’If he’s a man, he’ll get up by himself.’

Yes, the world needed Ha-joon, whether as a hero or a villain.

But Arthur wasn’t the only one there. Another figure hid behind the bushes, and as soon as Arthur and his wives left, she grinned.

"Mother..." the voice whispered. "I think we can move the plan forward. Seducing Ha-joon will be easier than expected."

The person on the magic transmitter responded. "Good job."

The stranger continued. "However, Mother, I’ve found a man I find intriguing. I think I’ll take him for myself." She added, "Even if he has six wives, he’ll still choose me."

The voice on the other end lingered, as though nodding. "Enjoy your stay at the academy then..." She uttered one final name in a soft tone. "Agrat."

After that night, Arthur found it incredibly difficult to move freely without his wives constantly keeping an eye on him.

’Is this how everyone’s academy life is?’ Arthur doubted it.

There was no one else he knew who lived in a room surrounded by six gorgeous girls ready to tend to his every need.

If it weren’t for Nathira, he doubted any of it would be possible.

’No wonder all the girls naturally accept her as the first wife and sort of like a little mother.’ He nodded inwardly as Isabella combed his hair. ’She’s even more reliable than me. Maybe she’s my first husband.’

Arthur shook off the wandering thoughts.

Today marked the start of a new week, in the 570th year of the goddess Sylvia, and that meant his official classes were beginning, and the dungeon raid, more like the seventh-generation’s first mission, was about to start.

"Thanks, Isabella."

She smiled as if expecting something.

He nodded, stood from the chair, and kissed her on the cheek.

Her smile softened. "So, what would you like to eat today?"

He thought for a moment while grabbing his bag, as Ellie stepped out of the walk-in closet in her uniform.

"Something simple, since the girls are coming over." He patted her head. "Wouldn’t want you getting sick from stress."

Isabella nodded, but before she could respond, Ellie linked her arm with Arthur’s.

"See you later, big sis."

Isabella’s eyes widened briefly before she waved at them. "Okay, bye-bye."

(In A Dimly Lit Classroom In Central Academy)

"Did you change the coordinates?" asked a man cloaked in darkness.

The one he addressed answered immediately. "Yes, Master. When the academy sends the S-class through the portal, they’ll land in the A-rank dungeon."

The man in darkness laughed heartily. "The inescapable dungeon. Now that will be entertaining."
