Chapter 42: Ellie’s Kidnap (2)
"Damnit, why can’t things ever go my way?"
Arthur didn’t have time to enjoy the ride in a carriage. This time, he was getting to the academy on foot.
During his three years of training, he had learned a lot of footwork from his mother and sister, but the one he liked the most was the one his mom had stolen from her former rival.
Normally, it required someone with a thunder affinity to use it, since it demanded a lot of speed.
But Arthur was the original copycat. If it was a technique, he could use it.
Channeling yellow "colour" into his feet, he dashed through the streets, then leaped onto the rooftop of a building.
In under three minutes, he reached the academy, something that would have taken thirty minutes by carriage.
Arthur changed only the "color" in his right arm to blue and attempted to replicate the magic spell a member of his clan used.
Paper Transfer.
It was a wood-type magic that allowed the user to take what they had written on one piece of paper and transfer it onto another, as long as they had touched it before.
And he had recently touched several notes: Eric’s alchemy note, Cale’s magic analysis note, Vicky’s general studies note, and Ravian’s diary.
Arthur knew the obvious choice. Ravian.
Note:
Please send this message to Amy: block the second-year building.
PS: Also help me block the first-year building too.
Big bro.
---
Arthur knew that if Ravian saw the message, which he would, he would definitely go. As for the others, he doubted they’d have their notes with them at that time.
’Why are stalkers so damn annoying?’
Next, he needed to send another note, this time to Nathira.
The message was simple: Block the teachers’ building.
Arthur was more than certain the stalker was a student. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be allowed outside the academy.
And he couldn’t possibly be a teacher, since Seraph hadn’t met any teachers or staff yet, at least not those who didn’t live on campus.
Arthur entered the first-year building, opened a classroom door, and quickly shut it.
She was nowhere to be found.
’Where would a psycho take their target?’
If it were back on Earth, maybe he could have searched some dark, empty corner.
But the people of this world were really creepy.
And the game never showed where Ellie died.
Arthur stood motionless, thinking. ’Wait. Ellie’s corpse in the game was found lying on the floor.’
As if just realizing something, he rushed to the place where the stalker would most likely be.
If his calculations and grasp of logic served him right, then the stalker would most likely head to the roof of the first-year building.
Even if he considered other places, most buildings were heavily guarded, and he had already sent the others out as extra precautions. He was sure.
"That bastard is going to the roof."
---
(Meanwhile in the second-year building)
"You got the message, right?" Amelia asked Cassie as they ran through the hallway.
"Yeah, but why is that bastard sending us on errands?"
Amelia shot her a glance. "If you didn’t want to come, you could’ve just stayed behind."
Cassie’s face flushed slightly. "Shut up. It’s not like I’m going for his sake. I just want to know who the stalker is."
Amelia nodded. "Follow the back stairs. I’ll go up the front."
As the two reached the staircase junction, they felt a surge of mana from beneath them.
Amelia immediately grabbed Cassie’s hand and used blink magic, vanishing to the lower floor.
The masked figure flinched at the sight of them and disappeared.
"That bastard is getting away."
Amelia held Cassie back. "No need. He’s heading toward Unnie’s building."
Cassie stared at him, then exhaled. "Idiot. It would’ve been easier taking us down."
Amelia had to agree, although she was confused herself.
Why wasn’t the stalker with Ellie?
’I need to send this to husband and Unnie,’ Amelia thought.
"So, are we going or not?"
Amelia paused. "Let’s go, but first, let me send a message to him and Unnie."
"With that magic?" Cassie asked.
Amelia nodded and wrote down the note, sending it to Arthur and Nathira.
---
(A few moments later)
"So, Lady Syr’Nathira, why don’t we go out for some drinks?"
Nathira shifted her gaze between the letter Arthur had sent and the one from Amelia.
"How many times have I told you I’m married?"
The old professor scratched his bald head while chuckling. "It’s just some drinks. I promise it’ll be worth your time."
Nathira frowned, her killing intent flooding the room. "The next time you ask me that, I’ll take it as an insult to my husband and end your life."
The man recoiled, beads of sweat forming at his temples. "Y-Yes..." he stammered, nearly stumbling backward.
Nathira stood up smoothly and exited the room.
’Husband really gave me quite the difficult task,’ she thought, expanding her sensory field.
She could see everything around the academy, but to avoid drawing attention, she retracted parts of it.
’So that’s where she is, huh?’ Her eyes gleamed as she looked toward the ceiling of the first-year building.
’But the stalker’s already a step ahead of husband...’ Her face darkened. ’And I can’t use any spells here.’
The signature left by a Supreme was something no god could ignore. And even if she could fend off most of them, it would end up hurting Arthur.
She sighed and manipulated the mana particles around her, sending a message to him.
’Let’s make it—’
Nathira suddenly felt her vision blur. Not just her. Cassie, Amelia, Isabella, and even Anna, who was still in rejuvenation, felt it too.
Before she could react, a loud sound echoed throughout the entire academy:
BANG! BANG!
-----
(On the rooftop)
Ellie’s eyes widened in shock as the man in the mask fired once—then again—and again, until he emptied his gun.
No, it wasn’t just a normal gun. It was an ancient artifact.
And the one who was shot in the heart... was none other than Arthur.
The prince had nothing to do with her, she was just a stranger, right?
So why was he lying on the floor bloodied... because of her?
"Prince Arthur..." she muttered, watching him collapse to the floor.
