Chapter 27: Entrance Exam (1)

"Welcome, applicants, to the Central Academy’s Entrance Examination."

The moment the blinding light faded from Arthur’s vision, he found himself standing in the courtyard of a massive academy.

The emblem of twin swords locked into a shield, surrounded by swirling magic, was etched into nearly every visible surface.

Towering structures and grand castles radiated elegance and nobility.

The road resembled one that might be found on the streets of London.

And at the heart of the academy stood a colossal clock tower.

’I did hear one of the game’s background developers was British, but this...’ Arthur swallowed hard.

It felt as if London had transformed into an academy, with its technology replaced with magic and magitech.

"Wow, did you see that?"

Arthur glanced at the other applicants who had also passed the first test.

Among them, he recognized several familiar faces, some even named characters.

The students began murmuring, but once their eyes landed on the academy—

Silence.

"Isn’t that Vicky I see?!" a loud, playful voice shattered the confusion.

All eyes turned toward the girl striding forward with an air of mischief.

A girl with messy blonde hair and fox-like eyes pushed her way toward a tall boy wearing peasant clothes and glasses.

She smacked his back lightly.

"Vicky, it’s been two years! But what’s with the peasant cosplay and glasses? Trying to play mysterious now are we?"

The boy stiffened. "I’m sorry, my lady... but I don’t know who you’re referring to."

She blinked. Then squinted at him dramatically.

"Oh, is that so?"

"Yes, I—"

Before he could finish, she broke into uncontrollable laughter.

"You seriously think I’d fall for that? I know your scent, Vicky!"

Vicky clenched his jaw, trying to hide his frustration. ’Damn Bitc—’

"You’re pulling one of those cheesy drama arcs, huh? Secret identity? Hidden noble? Really?"

She burst out laughing again. "That’s why I told you to stop watching those shows, but nooo! You wanted to be the undercover hero!"

More students began turning to look, some chuckling quietly.

"Say it!" she shouted, rising on her toes. "Say, ’I must hide who I am for the greater good’!"

"I said stop!" Vicky snapped. "Damn it, Karma, can’t you let me live in peace?!"

She suddenly went still.

"...What?" he asked, confused, glancing around.

Her head tilted slightly. Then she squealed, hugging herself. "Cute boys! So many cute boys!!"

’How does she switch topics so fast?’ Vicky thought.

The shift in mood was so abrupt it gave people mental whiplash.

She spun, scanning the crowd like a predator in search of prey.

"See! The prince is here too!"

Her eyes flicked again, this time toward Ha-joon.

He had changed significantly in the last three years.

Tall. Composed. Noble.

His black hair and gentle purple eyes gave him an ethereal, regal aura.

He looked like the protagonist of a story.

Which, in many ways, he was.

The blonde-haired girl pranced in his direction, but then suddenly diverted to another boy standing apart from him.

Blonde hair. Golden eyes. A stoic face.

In an instant, she appeared directly in front of him, inches away from his face.

"Hey handsome. What’s your name?" she said with a teasing grin. "I haven’t heard of you in our generation before."

Arthur returned the smile. ’Yeah, no way I’m dealing with this lunatic.’

He turned his head slightly toward Vicky and offered a tight smile.

The message was clear: "Come get your woman away from me."

Vicky understood but adjusted his glasses and turned away.

’Bastard.’ Arthur muttered internally.

"So are you open mindeu? Want to be my sugar and I’ll be your tea? I take care of my men, as long as they’re cute."

She pointed at him, smirking. "And you, darling, exceed the standard."

Before Arthur could respond, the temperature in the courtyard began to drop sharply.

It felt as though his mother had suddenly appeared. Yet, ahead of them stood the student council.

"Isn’t that the student council?"

"Yeah, I’ve heard so much about them."

"That’s the president, the fox-eyed villian."

"And the vice president..."

All the boys’ faces flushed as a stunning beauty walked beside the council president, leading the student body.

"That’s the most talented spirit arts user—the Ice Princess, Amelia Roderick Valtor."

Arthur quietly stepped several paces away from Karma.

Karma glanced between her, Arthur, and Ha-joon, who looked like he was about to step forward.

Ha-joon fixed his eyes on Amelia, inhaled deeply, and walked up to her.

"You’re Amelia, right?" he began. "The Holy Empire mentioned you often, and—" f.r(e)e\webn.ovel.co\m

Before he could finish, someone brushed past him and wrapped an arm around Amelia’s waist.

Every student turned in surprise to the blond-haired young man.

"Hey, you bastard, what do you—"

Before a bulky senior could finish speaking, he caught sight of Amelia’s expression.

The cold princess who never smiled, who rarely reacted—

Was blushing... ?

"You’ve grown even more beautiful over the past three years," he said with a playful smile.

Amelia looked away slightly, her blush deepening and her breath turning ragged.

"H-Husband... people are watching..."

Arthur leaned in, his voice low and amused.

"Isn’t that what makes it better? Didn’t your dad tell me to announce it to the world?"

Gasps echoed around them.

The entire crowd collectively held its breath.

Ha-joon froze, his brows slowly drawing together.

"What?! Did the vice president just blush?" a council member blurted out. "No, no... She even called him husband!"

Ha-joon’s expression twisted with barely restrained fury.

Before things could escalate—

A commanding voice echoed from above.

"Enough flirting, my diamonds in the rough."

A woman descended slowly from the sky.

She wore black robes embroidered with silver, and her presence was overwhelmingly powerful.

Judging by her mana alone, she was at least a lower-level Elite.

She landed gracefully, scanning the applicants with sharp emerald eyes.

"I am Principal Lysandra Au Lefebvre of Central Academy."

Her voice had a gravity that made the air feel heavier.

"You’ve been selected from across the continent as potential students. However, admission is not guaranteed."

She raised four fingers.

"There will be four tests. As you all know, you’ve passed the first. The rest—"

She smiled coldly. "I can’t promise."

With a flick of her wrist, a piece of parchment materialized, and a pen began scribbling on its own.

"The second test, my darlings, is a single oral question. Answer correctly, and you advance."

She smiled at the excited looks on the students’ faces. "The third is a trial by combat against a senior. If they approve of your performance, you proceed to the final stage: a timed battle royale."

The parchment vanished in a blink.

"If you survive all of this..."

She pointed toward the academy:

"Then these doors will open to you."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"Enough chit-chat."

She waved her hand and ink formed mid-air.

It twisted, curled, and solidified into legible words:

---

『 If, as an official hero or student of this academy, you went on a mission to save a village... and discovered that you could only save either the children or the adults—what would you do? 』

A. Save the Children

B. Save the Adults

C. Try to Save Both

D. Kill Them All

E. Reject the Options Entirely

---

Several applicants paled on the spot.

"What kind of question is this?"

Lysandra turned toward the student who had spoken. "You. What do you believe is the main requirement for entering this academy?"

The boy froze. "Uhm... strength."

Lysandra didn’t respond immediately, letting the tension weigh on him.

"No, little one," she said. "While strength is important, what we value most is swift decision-making."

She tapped her temple. "You could possess all the power in the world, but without this, I assure you, death is your only destination."

The applicants swallowed hard.

She smiled gently. "That’s why, at Central, we accept both those with extraordinary abilities and those with brilliant minds."

Then her smile sharpened.

"But if you lack both, then you’re lower than garbage, regardless of whether you’re noble or commoner."

She snapped her fingers, and sheets of paper appeared in front of the students.

In the game, Arthur had never seen this kind of progression or such a question.

But he’d already altered so much of the plot, it didn’t surprise him anymore.

Besides, he already knew his answer.

Option E.

Beat the hell out of whoever gave the impossible choice. If you can’t do that, then die trying.

That was an Arcain family creed.

Save those in danger, but if forced to choose between two evils—

Destroy the one who gave the ultimatum.

That’s exactly what he wrote.

---

"Okay, five minutes are over."

As soon as she said those words, the papers vanished.

A minute passed.

Then a smile crept across Lysandra’s lips.

"Now," she said, "I will announce who passed... and who didn’t."
