Chapter 13: Martial Art’s Pagoda

"Junior Brother Yang," Xin Ming greeted warmly, smiling half-heartedly. "You turned out to be so powerful. I guess all that worrying I did for you was a little bit silly, huh...?"

Her joke came off more saddening than anything, but she played it off with another warm smile.

"You’re sure to soar to the heavens as a Phoenix, while I’m but a mere blip on your map. Even so, I... I have to tell you my feelings while I still have the chance."

Jin merely listened.

Xin Ming inhaled deeply before exhaling, mustering up the courage to say, "I love you! I’ve always loved you, ever since that day six years ago when you saved me from a group of wild dogs!"

Gasp...

The spectators were put through enough emotional turmoil already, but now there was a sudden passionate confession!?

How was the secret heavenly genius Jin going to respond—...

"I’m sorry."

Pity for the girl who professed her heart out spawned inside the spectators. They had somewhat expected this, as Jin was sure to go further than the moon after exposing his talent, but they nonetheless felt bad for Xin Ming.

"I... I understand..."

The tears began to fall one after the next, and unable to take the sorrow anymore, Xin Ming ran off the stage. She then left the Arena, not even bothering to stay around to accept her placement rewards.

"Well, although there were some bumps along the way, I’ll consider that as Contestant Xin Ming surrendering, which means we have our final winner!"

"Yang Kai!"

HAAA—!

The crowd went wild.

Today was destined to be etched into the annals of history.

After all, it was the day their Yang Sect’s heavenly genius revealed his peerless talent to the world. In time, they might even witness Yang Kai reigning supreme over the entire Spearseer Kingdom, making this a moment none of them would ever forget.

Someone else would also never forget this moment, as the shrouded misty figure in the stands revealed a small frown.

’I came here expecting nothing much, but now I’m glad I did,’ he thought, in the process of disappearing. ’If this genius is allowed to grow any further, then he’ll surely threaten our Ten Devil Sect. I have to hurry back and inform the Sect Leader.’

With that, the misty figure vanished.

And the competition came to an end.

...

Later that day.

"A tiger father really doesn’t give birth to a dog son, haha!" A middle-aged man with a refined appearance and powerful presence nearly fell over backward in laughter. As the Sect Leader of the Yang Sect, he likely hadn’t laughed so hard in years, not since the beginning of his stressful sect management term.

But now, with the unveiling of a supreme genius who hid among the weeds, how could he not be joyous beyond belief!?

"Tell me what you want, young friend Yang! As long as it’s within my power, I’ll grant whatever wish you have!" The Yang Sect Leader immediately promised within ten seconds of meeting Jin.

"Any wish?"

"Of course!"

The Yang Sect would do whatever it took to ensure that a genius of immeasurable caliber held a favorable view of their sect. Even if he had faced occasional bullying in his early years, there was always a price that could be paid to smooth over past wrongs. And he was willing to pay it.

Jin could pretty much discern the Sect Leader’s true motives, but he didn’t mind.

"If you’re offering anything, then could I browse the techniques and skills of the Yang Sect’s Martial Arts Pagoda?" Jin asked after pretending to give it some thought, while having actually been aiming for this the whole time. f.r(e)e\webn.ovel.co\m

Smiling, the Sect Leader replied, "No problem, no problem. Here, I’ll take you there right now."

Waving his hand, he used a special technique to transport both him and Jin out of his Sect Leader’s Residence.

[Your Understanding is Against-Heaven. By observing the Martial Art ’Phantom Shift,’ you have comprehended the Superior Martial Art ’Ethereal Displacement’.]

Jin’s power had unknowingly taken another leap upward.

However, what he saw the Sect Leader perform was merely the appetizer before the main course.

Within the 5-story-tall Martial Arts Pagoda of the Yang Sect.

"Feel free to browse through all the Manuals in here!" the Yang Sect Leader encouraged, giving Jin a slight nudge forward. "Whether it be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even the 5th Floor reserved for Sect Leaders and Ancestors, you’re allowed to go into every single one of them!"

If it were anyone else, they’d probably think the Sect Leader was attempting to trick them. After all, nothing good ever came so easily.

However, Jin knew better.

’With absolute strength and talent, anything is possible.’

After displaying might exceeding the Martial Master Realm, Jin’s status in the Yang Sect skyrocketed to the pinnacle. He went directly from being an Outer Disciple to a Lineage Disciple, becoming the next in line to inherit the Sect Leader position if he were to stick around.

All the fierce competition among the Direct Disciples vying for the Sect Leader position ended up being for naught. What they strived their whole lives toward achieving, Jin got in a single day.

Worst of all, he didn’t even particularly want it...

All he wished for was a quiet place to immerse himself in the comprehension of everything, where he could pursue higher levels of strength freely.

"So many Technique Manuals," Jin mused, his eyes falling upon the thousands of scrolls and booklets scattered in the multi-story pagoda. "There are even Martial Arts here at the Top Quality."

In the World of Huaxia, Martial Arts and the like were divided into Grades. There were five Grades, and in descending to ascending order, they were:

1- Martial Art (Basic/N/A) - (Low/Medium/High)

2- Advanced

3- Top

4- Supreme

5- Divine

There were smaller levels splitting up each of the 5 Major Grades as well, but for the most part, the value of a Martial Art was determined by its Grade.

The techniques that Jin comprehended from the ring powerhouse were Supreme and Divine Grade. However, for him, having dozens of times more selection, like in the Yang Sect Martial Arts Pagoda, was far better.

He was trying to defy the will of heaven and embark on his own Evolutionary Path. To do that, he had to create a Path foundation so solid that nothing could shake it, not even other Evolutionary Paths.

This meant assimilating as many techniques and principles as possible into the Martial Dao Evolutionary Path.

The more the merrier!
