Chapter 993 - 43: Assault
Chapter 993: Chapter 43: Assault
The enemy clearly had a squad of more than five people, who launched over fifty rocket shells, fiercely attacking the Whale Hunting war chariot.
Seeing all this from the observation screen, Teng Yuanxiang’s sweat glands stood on end in shock, but because Jing Xiang was still there, this woman bit the back of her hand, stifling her mouth, so as not to cry out. She wanted to maintain a strong image in Tang Zheng’s mind.
The war chariot continued to back up while the machine gun rotated, sweeping in a fan shape to blow up more than a dozen rocket shells. Tang Zheng also armed the Hellfire, with the palm Impact Beam firing in succession to protect the war chariot.
Zzz, Zzz, the main cannon of the war chariot fired, and thick plasma roared out, skimming the ground. The high-temperature melting effect carved out a deep trench, and the bullet nest opened in the shortest time for suppressive firing.
Tang Zheng launched Jamming Shells which exploded and spread black smoke rapidly, obscuring the view and interfering with the electronic surveillance system, while he contemplated the combat strategy to face the enemy.
Boom, boom, still a few rocket shells slipped through and hit the war chariot, but the vehicle’s Defense Power was commendable and held up.
"Don’t come out." Seeing Jing Xiang poking her head out, ready to climb out to join the fight, Tang Zheng hurriedly stopped her, and blindly covered a 120-degree range in front of him with intensive fire, accelerating the retreat. This could be an ambush area, better to get out first and then see.
The gunfire was instantly deafening, and the pungent smell of gunpowder smoke filled the air. Tang Zheng finally spotted the enemy figures—biochemical bugmen in Power Armor, all overgrown with rust but incredibly strong.
Blue phosphorescence spurted from their thrusters as they chased after him, their hands never ceasing to fire the Hellfire Rifle, which shot out large-caliber bullets wrapped in green halos.
The special elixir-filled bullets not only had significant biotic damage effects but also corroded metal on contact, with immense power.
Tang Zheng took a shot to the leg, the red paint corroding away to reveal the metal beneath.
"Looks like there are seven!" The most fearsome are enemies hiding in the dark. Once the biochemical bugmen began their assault, Tang Zheng had fewer concerns. Taking advantage of the smoke, he threw some remote control bombs on the road.
The biochemical bugmen moved swiftly and ceaselessly launched firepower, attempting to kill their prey in the shortest time. These creatures relied on their combat instincts, without high IQ, which Tang Zheng could exploit.
After letting the first two biochemical bugmen pass, Tang Zheng detonated the bombs as the following ones rushed in. The deafening explosion roared like a tsunami, the blast wave rapidly spreading and almost filling the entire passage.
The biochemical bugmen were immediately engulfed, including the first two. Even Tang Zheng, in his Hellfire armor, seemed to feel the melting heat of the flames.
"Are they dead?" Teng Yuanxiang intently watched the screen, and then the barrage came, with a bullet hitting the camera and turning the screen into static, the image disappearing.
Such an explosion could only cause some trouble for the biochemical bugmen, whose rusting power armors held decent defensive capabilities.
The flames burned, nearly sucking out the air. Teng Yuanxiang and Jing Xiang immediately felt an intense suffocation, their chests tight and uncomfortable. They involuntarily opened their mouths wide, gasping for air, trying to inhale as much as possible. Even though the war chariot had an air filtration system, the burnt smell was still thick and pungent.
"As expected, not dead." Under the bugmen’s barrage, Tang Zheng activated the main cannon and four light beam cannons. The thick plasma that shot out filled half the passage, and two of the slower Power Armors were instantly melted into a fireball in the explosion. Two others were partially hit and detonated, and the remaining three, despite clinging to the wall, still had their armors partially melted by the high-energy radiation. Poured over the biochemical bugmen, the scorching hot liquid metal made them howl miserably.
Tang Zheng finished off the wounded ones with his gun, and the battlefield suddenly quieted down, leaving only the sound of burning debris.
"Group Leader, is it over?" The war chariot stopped, and Teng Yuanxiang called out, ready to run out and clean up the battlefield, but for her safety, she was going to pull Jing Xiang with her.
"Don’t come out." Tang Zheng remained vigilant and at the next moment, the wall beside him exploded, metal fragments ricocheting everywhere, and then a Power Armor burst out and pounced on him.
Bang, bang, the biochemical bugman pounded its fists on Tang Zheng’s head, causing the data to flicker. All the muzzles on its body aimed at Tang Zheng.
Bullets and cannon shells fired, the explosion’s flames engulfing both of them in an instant. The biochemical bugman was then repelled by the energy cannon shot from Tang Zheng’s chest and slammed straight into the ceiling.
Whizz, the bugman threw a laser boomerang that grazed Tang Zheng’s right shoulder, drawing sparks and cutting a trace on his torso. His back-mounted chainsaw knife sprang open, and he grabbed it with a backhand, ready to strike at Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng drew his sword, aimed at the bugman above him, and with thrusters at full power, he thrust upward like a spear.
The blade punctured the bugman’s head armor and went in. Then, Tang Zheng put forth all his strength for a twist and a kill, and amidst the grating sound of metal, the bugman’s head turned into mushy pulp.
Thump. A corpse wrapped in power armor slammed onto the ground. Since its heart wasn’t destroyed, the self-destruction device wasn’t triggered.
"A few more times, and the Hellfire is going to break." Tang Zheng checked and saw that the armor was damaged by 25%, and its output was only 87, leaving him slightly frustrated.
Picking up the two-meter-long chainsaw knife, he pressed the start button, and the motor noise came to life. The energy base stimulated the weapon, and the armor-piercing laser coating spread across the blade.
"It’s just a Level A weapon, good for nothing but piercing armor." After scanning the equipment with the radar, Tang Zheng lost interest. The thing was intimidating in appearance but also very heavy, beyond the capability of an ordinary person to swing.
"It’s a pity, who could grow to three meters?" Teng Yuangxiang said, deflated as she looked at the enormous power armor and compared it to her own height.
Tang Zheng threw the Bug Heart onto the Biochemical Bugman to let it devour the armor, then he picked up the Hellfire Rifle that had fallen nearby. It was also a Level A weapon, equally heavy.
Better than nothing, Tang Zheng thought as he removed the Ammo Clip, took out a bullet, and held it in his hand. The bullet’s head was made of special metal, translucent, allowing him to see the green potion inside.
Hell Bullet, filled with genetic nucleic acids. Upon hitting a target, it would cause nucleic acid mutation, destroying the genetic sequence and delivering an A+ lethality, especially against living organisms; a hit meant crippling damage, with loss of combat capability.
Half an hour later, the Fleet passed through the battlefield, observing everywhere the scorched traces and remnants of Biochemical Bugmen, which shocked the Trojan Squad once again with Tang Zheng’s immense strength. As for the new recruits, there was a palpable sense of relief and security – they even thought it’d be great if Tang Zheng always scouted ahead; aside from him, the newbies weren’t willing to trust anyone else.
Inside an Armored Humvee, the Trojan Squad was holding a meeting.
"He’s so strong; no wonder their Team could survive with so many members. With such a dynamic Group Leader, as long as the new recruits aren’t beyond help, they’ll always get some assistance," Su Ameng praised, "The survival rate for the newbies in Warhammer Squad is probably the highest among all Trojan Squads."
"You’re giving him too much credit," Xu Nian said, disliking such an assessment. He wanted to belittle Tang Zheng but couldn’t find any fault. It was undeniable; as a Group Leader, he had done perfectly.
"Put away your disdain. If you keep that attitude, you won’t be far from death," Tong Ping warned Xu Nian, then consulted with his teammates, "Should we volunteer to scout too? It’s not right to always let them do it."
"How do we do that? We don’t have power armor. We’d be in constant danger if we run into these things," Xu Nian refused, with Lin Chen and Zeng Fanghai also opposing the idea.
"They don’t trust us anyway, just consider it hitchhiking," Zheng Xiaxia didn’t care about being looked down upon; surviving was what mattered the most.
Tong Ping wanted to persuade them further when suddenly, a series of heavy thuds came from above, making the steel car roof dent inwards.
"Enemy attack!" At Dantai’s shout, Tong Ping saw the roof getting pierced by sharp claws. A Monster with dark green skin used brute force to tear open the roof, bellowing loudly as it prepared to crawl inside.
Su Ameng teleported out of the Humvee, while Lin Chen and Zeng Fanghai opened the door to leap out. Tong Ping raised the Rifle and shot at the Monster above, blowing its head apart.
The Monster’s saliva dripped onto his scalp, burning his skin.
Creak, the Bus emergency braked, then crashed through the cracked organic glass wall, barreling into a jungle.
This Ecological Zone’s cycling system was still intact, lush with Towering Trees resembling a Tropical Rainforest.
A Monster tore open the roof and grabbed a hapless newbie, but due to the small size of the tear and its sharp edges, the newbie was brutally dragged out, his skin flayed, blood flowing freely amid his continuous screams. Soon, the Monster twisted his head and body so violently that they flipped 180 degrees, then bit his head off.
Chaos ensued inside the Bus; the newbies screamed, trying to escape the carriage, which led to a stampede. Some clever recruits jumped out of the windows to flee.
Dantai killed a Bug that had landed on the Beetle, climbed out, and then saw dozens of Bugs bursting from the rainforest, encircling the area. He hurriedly shot the three Bugs on the roof. If they made it inside, the new recruits would be done for.
These were a new breed of Bugs, resembling Aliens but with smaller heads and bladed arms. Their tails remained sharp and sturdy, capable of easily piercing steel.
"Help!" A newbie successfully jumped out of the window and ran towards Dantai, believing he was lucky to have escaped the Bus. However, his actions exposed him to the Bugs’ sight.
A Bug leaped off the roof and sprinted wildly. In a breath, it caught up with the newbie, eight meters away, knocked him down, and devoured him.
