Chapter 982: Chapter 35 Uneasy Journey Ahead
The interior of the tank was cramped, and as Teng Yuangxiang fell in, it was inevitable that she came into close contact with Tang Zheng, their bodies pressed tightly together.
"What are you doing?" Tang Zheng was about to change position when Teng Yuangxiang’s hands pressed down on his, which were cushioning the back of his head, as she leaned forward, her red lips landing on his mouth.
Jing Xiang glanced back, then quickly turned her head away, pretending she saw nothing. This timid office worker dared not meddle in Tang Zheng’s personal affairs, only feeling her cheeks burn.
Tang Zheng, using brute force, broke free from Teng Yuangxiang’s hold and, with one hand on her forehead, pushed her away from himself.
"What are you afraid of? There’s no one else here anyway," Teng Yuangxiang cooed, her voice as sweet and cloying as a cat in heat. After hours together, she had seen through Jing Xiang’s character and was certain that she posed no threat.
"You better leave before I lose my temper," Tang Zheng’s brows furrowed. He was not so desperate as to push down any woman he saw.
"Don’t you find it thrilling? Besides, they won’t find out," Teng Yuangxiang persisted.
"Get out!" Tang Zheng’s face turned cold.
Teng Yuangxiang chuckled, her cheeks moving close as she tried to kiss him on the mouth again, but an annoyed Tang Zheng placed a hand between their lips.
With her eyes seductively swirling, Teng Yuangxiang cast him a flirtatious glance before extending her tongue to tease Tang Zheng’s palm.
"I’ve handled bugs before," Tang Zheng said, and with that remark, Teng Yuangxiang’s expression tightened, and she immediately withdrew from his hand, spitting out disdainfully twice.
"Don’t reject me, okay?" Teng Yuangxiang started to play the tear card, her arms encircling Tang Zheng’s neck, refusing to let go.
Tang Zheng, teased to the point of irritation, was still patient enough to pull away Teng Yuangxiang’s hands, pressing against her shoulders to push her back.
"I’ll say it one more time, get out!" As the group leader, every additional minute Teng Yuangxiang spent in the tank turned into a minute of gossip, and Tang Zheng did not want to decrease the team’s cohesion. Even if it had been Li Xinlan throwing herself at him, he would have refused.
"Why are you so inflexible? What’s wrong with me?" Teng Yuangxiang was bitter, fixing her gaze on Tang Zheng’s eyes, full of incomprehension, "You’re clearly aroused, why are you holding back? Am I not pretty enough?"
"Aren’t you annoying?" Tang Zheng hated clingy women the most, definitely more difficult to deal with than Pang Meiqin.
"Unreasonable." Teng Yuangxiang was about to make more trouble, but seeing Tang Zheng’s chilling glance, she immediately switched to a low, sobbing cry.
Tang Zheng moved his body and crawled out of the commander’s compartment.
"Hehe, that woman failed to seduce him," Xu Biyun said, laughing happily as she saw Tang Zheng sitting on the tank. "A modern-day Liu Xiahui, who knew he could hold back."
"How do you know it didn’t work?" Lu Fan asked, puzzled, then angrily stared through the car window at the tank, stabbing at the armor with a dagger, "Maybe they’ve already messed up the sheets; damn it, I should go beat up that Teng Yuangxiang."
"Uh..." Xu Biyun was taken aback, obviously unable to tell the little Lolita that, based on Tang Zheng’s stamina, it would be impossible for him to finish so quickly.
Lu Fan, after all, was a little girl who only had half an understanding of certain matters.
"Xin Lan, can you bear to watch Tang Zheng be taken away by that woman? Tang Zheng can hold back once, twice, but he can’t always hold back, can he? After all, he is a man with normal desires," Xu Biyun said, looking at the young woman, confused about their relationship. "If you like him, why not chase after him? Tang Zheng doesn’t have a girlfriend."
"I’m seven or eight years older than her!" Li Xinlan smiled bitterly. Seeing Teng Yuangxiang enter the tank had depressed her, but now that Tang Zheng had come out so quickly, she felt relieved yet a bit heartbroken. She suddenly realized that she had truly fallen for this man.
"Age isn’t a problem. If Fanfan weren’t so young, she’d definitely become his wife," Lu Fan said, looking down at her petite stature before deflating. "Damn it, by the time Fanfan grows up, the yellow flower vegetable will be wind-dried."
"You little imp, by the time you grow up, it’ll be Tang Zheng who’s wind-dried," Xu Biyun knocked on Lu Fan’s head and laughed heartily.
Li Xinlan felt her mindset was wrong; she shouldn’t have been so indifferent towards Tang Zheng and should also comfort him appropriately from time to time.
"If you like him, why not chase after him?" Seeing Qin Yan stare at Tang Zheng’s silhouette through the car window in a daze, Bai Guo asked.
"I don’t want to be rejected again," Qin Yan sighed. She felt that in this lifetime, there was no hope with Tang Zheng, and inevitably, her mind drifted back to their initial meeting amid the Zombie Siege.
After Tang Zheng almost exterminated the sea of bugs, their offensive weakened a lot. A few stragglers launched suicide attacks, but were killed before they could reach the fleet. Five minutes later, not a single one was left, and the environment became completely silent.
Through the throat microphone, Dantai summoned Tang Zheng, notifying the fleet of the itinerary, then took over the control. Such trivial matters should be the responsibility of the deputy group leader. Otherwise, commanding everything would exhaust the group leader to death.
Riding in tanks was hardly comfortable, so Tang Zheng took out the Whale Hunting Vehicle and could finally catch up on some sleep. However, a little more than an hour later, Bai Guo woke him up. The fleet had encountered its first problem.
"What’s the matter?" Tang Zheng climbed out of the war chariot just to see Dantai holding a telescope, looking left and right at a crossroad.
"The route given by the map from Trojan suggests taking the right side, but after a field survey, this area obviously had seen war." Dantai casually pointed, unsure. The road on this side was full of bullet marks, some corpses, and buildings with significant damage traces.
"Let’s still follow Trojan’s instructions, after all, we don’t have a starship map. Blindly searching will get us lost," remarked Xu Biyun, who had played plenty of first-person shooter games and understood the importance of hints.
"There would definitely be leftover traps, insect nests, and such. It’s not safe," Qin Yan shook her head; more than two days of experience had proven that any place that had seen battle had bugs in residence.
"So, how do we choose? Should we flip a coin?" Tong Ping was the type of person who wasn’t good at expressing desires, but Zheng Xiaxia wasn’t. She refused to be ignored, even if her opinions weren’t adopted. She needed to assert her presence.
"Good idea!" Lu Fan let out a faintly mocking remark, unfortunately, Zheng Xiaxia didn’t catch the sarcasm.
"What do you think, Tang Zheng?" Dantai already had made up his mind to follow Trojan’s route, but he wanted to hear Tang Zheng’s opinion as well.
"Stick to the original route, taking different roads can’t guarantee the absence of bugs and traps. Perhaps precisely because no war happened there, landmines and traps have not been triggered. If we go there, it could be even more dangerous," said Tang Zheng. Each of his words was related to the team’s safety, and he had to be cautious. Of course, he noticed the testing tone in Dantai’s words, rather than a discussion or inquiry.
"Follow what the group leader said and move out," Dantai waved his hand, signaling the fleet to proceed.
"Hey, what about our opinions? Why don’t you ask us?" Xu Nian had initially not intended to speak, but seeing Qin Yan occasionally glance at Tang Zheng, he felt unbearably frustrated and yelled, questioning Dantai and claiming his existence.
"Is it necessary?" Dantai replied indifferently, not even sparing him a glance from the corner of his eye.
Tang Zheng returned to the Whale Hunting Vehicle to continue his sleep, and the other conquerors and newbies each took their places. After Tang Zheng had shown his strength, they had learned to listen and conform.
"Aren’t we supposed to be in a collaboration? When did it become a monologue from you?" Xu Nian was deeply wounded by this ignoring attitude, like an injured stray dog, howling loudly.
"Xu Nian, be quiet," Tong Ping frowned, primarily because he had no solution to offer, or else he would have suggested it.
Lin Chen and Zeng Fanghai remained silent, not wanting to join Xu Nian’s frenzy. Zheng Xiaxia was about to say something but was silenced by Tong Ping’s stern look.
"Why not? If you don’t have any solutions, why not ask me?" Xu Nian retorted.
"Then, what’s your proposition?" Dantai stopped and looked at him coldly.
"Take the left side," Xu Nian, of course, chose an opposite route.
"The reason?" followed Dantai’s challenging question; Xu Nian was dumbfounded because he couldn’t think of a reason to justify his choice without being laughed at for relying on intuition.
Dantai didn’t press him. He shrugged his shoulders and hopped onto a Beetle. "Let’s move."
The newbies dared not openly show contempt for a conqueror, but their glances towards Xu Nian were full of scorn and disregard. They believed he was just luckier, thinking that as long as they persevered, they would definitely surpass him, at least in terms of IQ.
Xu Nian crumpled the cigarette in his mouth into a ball, nearly dying of anger, stomping his foot hard on the ground, which resounded with a thump.
"Get in the car, don’t embarrass yourself," Tong Ping called, bringing Xu Nian back.
After leaving Central City, due to poor road conditions, the fleet’s speed noticeably slowed. Dantai checked the route amidst the bumps. The fleet was now passing through the supplies storage area, embarking on a long road, which would then lead to an ammunition depot and the combat layer where space warplanes were parked. The entire route was intricate, almost twisted into a pretzel shape on the screen.
As there was no immediate danger, the newbies on the bus gradually fell asleep. But before they could even enter a deep sleep, a thunderous explosion sounded right next to their ears, waking everyone up.
