Chapter 965: Chapter 22: High Casualties in the Death Passage
Qian Xue clutched his rifle, taking the lead, his face so sullen it was as if water could drip from his cheeks. His wound had been treated, taken care of with simple stitches and covered with a piece of medical gauze, but it was still soaked with seeping blood.
"Kill all of you, kill all of you!" Qian Xue cursed in his heart, using this manner to vent his irritation and rage, single-mindedly thinking about how to wipe them all out, "Even if I die, I will drag everyone down with me."
Having been beaten up several times, Qian Xue had become completely fixated on revenge, especially towards Teng Yuangxiang. He wanted that damn woman to know the consequences of offending him, "I’m definitely going to sell you to Brazil to become a prostitute, to be ravaged by those black devils."
"What are you muttering about?" A man pushed Qian Xue, ready to make a show of it, hoping to leave a good impression in Tang Zheng’s mind in order to remove his bomb collar. Suddenly, his vision blurred as he saw several men in grey uniforms rush into the corridor and start shooting in their direction.
Ratatat, the large-caliber bullets tore through the air, whistling towards them—the man was about to duck when a bullet flew into his right eye socket.
Bang, the poor guy’s head instantly burst into a mess resembling a rotten watermelon, a splash of red and white pulp painting a gruesome tapestry on the walls before dribbling down.
Splattered with blood on his face, Qian Xue licked his lips, tasting the metallic flavor, and only then did he snap out of his distraught rage, hurriedly dropping to the ground.
"It’s soldiers controlled by the Death Worms!" Zhou Xiang, who clearly had no experience in commanding in battle, shouted out something that was of no use. Thankfully, there was Tang Zheng.
"Get down quick!" Tang Zheng deployed a Leopard Tank to use as cover, blocking the incoming bullets.
Lin Weiguo and Zuo Yi demonstrated high tactical prowess, going prone and countering immediately, laying down firepower suppression towards the opposition before taking cover behind the tank when they spotted it.
The main battle tank was massive, almost completely blocking the passage. However, the firepower of the Death Worm soldiers was formidable, with their bullets leaving one centimeter deep dents in the armor as they struck, and these relentless adversaries launched a desperate charge.
The high-top military boots stomping on the metal floor produced dense thudding sounds, as if each step was pounding on everyone’s chest, making breathing labored.
"I’ll handle this." Xu Biyun deployed her Scavenger Powered Armor, jumped aboard with a flip, grabbed the controls, and the twin assault rifles attached started spitting out flames. The 30mm bullets instantly carved a path of death through the corridor, shredding everything in their path.
The soldiers in military uniforms, natives with pale faces and lifeless eyes who were already dead, offered no resistance without any protection, and their bodies were no match for the bulletstorm, disintegrating into meaty fragments.
Shi Jing vomited again as one soldier’s right leg exploded, causing him to collapse, then another bullet hit his right chest. The large-caliber bullet blew away half of his torso, and due to the recoil, he fell backward. However, the attack was far from over, as subsequent bullets struck again, pulverizing his body and strewing chunks of flesh across the area in a bloodbath.
Tang Zheng and Lin Weiguo each took out a Terminator Machine Gun and opened fire furiously, picking off stragglers. Moments later, no more Death Worm soldiers emerged, and the entire passage was covered in a layer of meat sauce over a foot thick, with dark red bloodstains all over the walls.
"Tang Zheng reacts so quickly!" Lin Chen couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of only one unfortunate casualty, appreciating that Warhammer Squad not only coordinated well but also reacted extremely fast. Almost all the Death Worm soldiers were taken out by them, and even the third-order Zhou Xiang hardly killed five.
"Small scene, look how scared you all got," Zhou Xiang put on an indifferent demeanor, not mentioning his own embarrassing war results.
"Continue, be careful, and there won’t be any problems," Tang Zheng reassured them, urging everyone forward as he had no time to waste.
The newbies were nervous and uneasy, walking on the mashed flesh of the dead, with that squelchy feeling transmitting from the soles of their feet, mixed with the stench of blood, nearly caused them to vomit up their bile—it was too disgusting.
"It’s safe." Mr. Qian’s group had finally learned some terms, and after confirming the safety of the fourth level passage, they proceeded, with others following.
"Isn’t this too easy? Could it be there are no bugs?" Lin He, who was walking towards the rear of the group, was still not at ease.
This was a metal passage no different from the previous three levels, still with a winding route. When the squad turned a corner and entered a two-hundred-meter stretch, a dark-skinned burly man accidentally triggered a trap.
Beep, beep, a piercing alarm sounded, nearly shattering eardrums, and upon seeing the burly man’s left foot press a metal floor panel down half a centimeter, Qian Xue’s face turned ashen and instinctively turned to run.
"What’s the panic? Quiet down!" Lin Weiguo swung his fist, landing a heavy punch on Qian Xue’s face.
Qian Xue tumbled to the ground, his nose bleeding profusely onto the floor. His shout also calmed many of the newbies, but those at the rear of the group continued panicking.
A woman turned to run but was quickly caught up by a man behind her. Because she was in the way, she was pushed aside, resulting in her crashing headfirst into the wall, blood streaming down her face.
"Don’t panic!" Tang Zheng surveyed the area, front and back, searching for a safe exit. At a time like this, retreating wasn’t necessarily the safest option, but his caution at that moment paid off.
Zzz, zzz, at the end of the passage, eight red vertical laser beams were directly shot from the ceiling and then sliced across at the speed of a hundred-meter sprint.
"It’s a laser corridor!" Lin Chen bellowed out, turning to run forward. They had only covered eighty meters at this point. The newbies hoping to escape before the lasers swept across were undoubtedly indulging in a pipe dream.
"Don’t!" The fleeing man also saw the beams and hurriedly stopped in his tracks, but before he could turn around, the beams pierced through his body. He was sliced up like a slab of frozen beef, blood spraying out as his body was cut into three large pieces that scattered to the ground.
"Run!" Tang Zheng urged everyone to flee as the team descended into chaos.
"The beam’s gone, does it mean it disappears after killing someone?" Lin Chen shouted, his wind ability making him very fast, as he immediately reached the front. Zhou Xiang wasn’t far behind; the young man had activated his Third-order Explosive Type, following closely. However, before they could make it out, the laser beam that had killed the burly man suddenly vanished, and then, at the front of the passage, a Venetian blind-like array of horizontal laser beams rapidly sliced through the air.
"Damn it, are we even supposed to survive this?" Lin Chen and Zhou Xiang turned around and ran back. Their action caused the newbies to be at a loss, instinctively stopping and running back.
"Don’t stop, keep going." Tang Zheng shouted loudly, activating his Explosive Type and grabbing Teng Yuangxiang and Shi Jing in each arm, sprinting toward the beam, thinking that maybe the next would come from behind again.
Xu Biyun and Lin Weiguo had great trust in Tang Zheng and sprinted resolutely; with just a meter between them and the beams, they suddenly leaped, spreading their bodies flat to dodge through the slits of the light beams.
Lin Chen and Zhou Xiang were hit by the beams, but they managed to endure with their Light Defense Shields. Qian Xue, seeing the beams almost hit his behind, suddenly grabbed the skinny man breaking the path next to him, pulling him behind.
Zzz, the laser cut through the man’s body, then vanished before it could reach Qian Xue’s nose. He witnessed the unlucky man’s body, sawn into segments like wooden stakes, falling apart into chunks.
"Forward, run!" Tang Zheng loudly reminded everyone as another array of beams shot from behind them, forming a net-like pattern giving no chance to the survivors to dodge, and the speed had doubled as well, instantly catching up.
Zeng Fanghai was squeezed in the back, unable to exert any force. Seeing the beam approaching, he grabbed a newbie and threw them behind.
As the beam cut through and then vanished, the unlucky newbie first bled profusely, then collapsed like a stack of blocks, with chunks of flesh falling away, cleanly sliced.
"Damn, now it’s in front." There was no time for grief or blaming; a net-like array of beams was shot from the front again, leaving no gap to wriggle through.
Xu Biyun and Lin Weiguo activated their Light Defense Shields and released their abilities to withstand the onslaught. Zuo Yi immediately stopped in his tracks as his equipment wouldn’t allow him to rush through, which would only lead to a dead end.
A Metal Puppet stood up from the wall, blocking in front of Xu Biyun, while Lin Weiguo geared up in Armor, but as the light swiped past them, it continued on.
"Idiots, use the newbies as meat shields. It seems this system requires blood to stop," Lin Chen grabbed a newbie and flung them with all his might towards the laser beams.
The laser net cut through the airborne newbie, then disappeared, and the body of the unfortunate soul shattered and dropped down in a mess, utterly disgusting.
The survivors took the chance to sprint, sixty meters left. Tang Zheng fully activated his Third-order Explosive Type, and even carrying Teng Yuangxiang and Shi Jing, he charged to the lead while other Conquerors followed closely behind, their strengthened bodies outpacing the newbies in bursts of speed.
"Damn, another one?" Zeng Fanghai cursed, pushing himself to increase speed and, out of desperation, entered an Explosive Type state.
Qian Xue, a bit overweight and not fast, saw he was falling behind and immediately acted ruthlessly, shooting a university student’s right leg.
"The hell!" Before the university student could finish cursing, he was sliced through by the beam, dying in pieces.
The next wave of beams sliced forward, chasing after them once again.
As Tang Zheng dashed out the passage, he saw an electronic controller at the corner, without a second thought, he took aim and shot it, blowing it into sparks.
"It’s over." A female student, frightened, collapsed on the ground, her eyes wide as the beam neared, thinking she was bound to die. But suddenly, the beam vanished just in front of her cheek.
The newbies ran out, immediately collapsing in disarray, panting heavily. Even Lin Chen felt a sense of surviving the ordeal, too suffocated and in a swift move, ripped off his gas mask.
"We can’t continue this way, let’s change the route." Zeng Fanghai certainly didn’t want to go through that kind of thrill again.
The newbies didn’t speak, but they all kept their distance from the Conquerors of the instant noodle squad. After all, these guys used newbies as meat shields. The more dire the situation, the more a person’s true nature is revealed. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, you are welcome to vote for it on Qidian, recommend it, and vote monthly.
