Chapter 948: Chapter 9 Dead Bug Starship
Around the year 2520, 35 years after the great war between humanity and the Insect Race, floating in the space of the Libra Gliese 581 Star System near a red dwarf star, was a gigantic abandoned interstellar warship. Around it, there was a scattering of mechanical debris, and one could even see some dried corpses wrapped in damaged combat suits.
The Homeland, the sixth large starship built by humanity for space colonization a century later, was also one of the main warships lost in the Human and Bug War five years ago.
Its hull had been breached by the Insect Race, with five penetrative wounds in the outer protective armor layer, forming numerous bullet holes of varied sizes. Fortunately, before the Insect Race broke through, the starship had already entered battle-ready state, and all pressure-resistant airtight bulkhead doors and fire and magnetic storm isolation walls had been closed. Although the Homeland had sustained heavy damage, it hadn’t been sunk; however, this only meant more hardship for the humans living aboard.
Short-range exchanges of fire between humans and the Insect Race had caused some areas’ electric power supply systems to be destroyed, plunging them into darkness. The first challenge encountered by the Central Hammer team, who were teleported aboard by the Silver Trojan, was the darkness.
"Ah! Ah!" A woman’s field of vision suddenly went dark, and she screamed out in fright. Her voice echoed in the narrow passage, forming a reverberation that was piercing to the ears, making one’s teeth ache unbearably.
As soon as Tang Zheng finished teleporting, he felt a chill on his cheeks, estimating the temperature to be around twenty degrees. He was about to twist on his tactical flashlight when he heard the scream and immediately rushed towards the source of the sound, worried it would be heard by enemies.
"No shouting, everyone stay quiet." Tang Zheng’s judgement was quite accurate. He turned on the flashlight and shone it, then immediately covered the face of a woman in professional outfit, muffling her mouth.
The woman was suddenly attacked and panicked even more, unable to understand what Tang Zheng was saying as she struggled desperately, seeking to escape.
"Shut up." Tang Zheng growled, releasing his rifle with one hand and choking the woman with his arm, "Keep quiet if you don’t want to die."
The woman was nearly suffocating. In less than twenty seconds, her cheeks swelled red. When Tang Zheng released her, she collapsed to the ground with a thud, gasping for breath, too exhausted to scream.
"Trojan and its evil taste, always upping the difficulty." Tang Zheng shook his tactical flashlight and realized that only four people were together with him. Apart from the woman who had screamed, there was a female university student and the bomb guy’s girlfriend crouching on the ground, hugging her shoulders and fearfully looking around. Three meters away was a man who was holding a rifle, bent over, and watching his surroundings warily. As soon as Tang Zheng’s tactical flashlight lit up, he immediately tried to run over.
"Wait, take the flashlight. Let’s make sure our location is safe first!" Tang Zheng stopped him, tossed the tactical flashlight over, and then took out two more to check the surrounding area.
The bluish beams of the flashlights moved, slowly revealing the environment to everyone.
This passage could accommodate three people walking abreast. The walls were already rusty, and water constantly dripped from the ceiling. Tang Zheng wanted to listen closely for any movement, but the breathing of the three women was as loud as broken bellows, drowning out any other sound.
Tang Zheng called the others with his throat microphone, but the interference was too severe, and he heard nothing but the hiss of electric current.
"Thank you." The man showed gratitude, feeling a sudden increase in security with the light. He thought Tang Zheng was a good person, not realizing that the group leader was actually minimizing risks. If he was the only one holding the flashlight, he might be the first to be targeted.
The man was about twenty-five, with the weathered look of someone who had seen life, and had a friendly attitude. His flashlight beam stopped on a woman in a nightgown, then he inadvertently swallowed hard.
The woman’s nightgown was an ultra-short, thin, sheer style, very tempting.
"I could do whatever I want?" Zhou Peng felt an urge to act but then caught Tang Zheng’s eye and suppressed the desire.
"Can you move?" Tang Zheng took a few steps and handed out the two spare flashlights. The woman in the nightgown and the female university student immediately reached out to take them, afraid of being slower than others.
"My name’s Zhou Peng, nice to meet you." The man moved his flashlight away and awkwardly struck up a conversation, hoping to get closer to Tang Zheng. He had seen with his own eyes how this man blew off another guy’s foot with a single shot.
"Tang Zheng." Tang Zheng certainly noticed Zhou Peng’s possessive gaze just now and was somewhat displeased.
"What is this place?" Teng Yuanxiang asked bravely, attempting to stand up but then realizing her attire was inappropriate and crouching down again.
"I don’t know, you all put on the protective clothing first. It can double your physical attributes, and it might save your life at a crucial moment." Since he didn’t know what the unknown enemy was, Tang Zheng had switched to the strongest heavy magnetostorm rifle. However, without rails, he couldn’t mount the tactical flashlight and had to hold it in his hand, which greatly affected combat.
Tang Zheng shifted the flashlight away and walked a few steps forward, but Zhou Peng shamelessly continued to shine his flashlight on Teng Yuanxiang, appreciating every inch of her skin.
"Hey, have you had enough?" Teng Yuanxiang wasn’t one to take things lying down. She frowned and scolded him.
"I’m helping you with the light. What’s wrong with that? It’s like a dog biting Lu Dongbin; you don’t recognize a good person!" Zhou Peng retaliated, turning the blame on Teng Yuanxiang. Seeing that the woman in the nightgown was choked up, a cold gleam flitted across his eyes, thinking that her time to suffer would come.
