Chapter 919: Chapter 62: High-Intensity Battle_3

...

"It’s the Insect-Humans!" a university student shouted as he dodged away from the firing port and crouched down. An Insect-Human holding a gun shot at him, and the bullets kicked up numerous pillars of mud.

This was the first team led by Qin Yan, which also included Bai Guo, Lu Fan, Shen Qingshuang, three university students, and four soldiers.

Over twenty Overlord Beetles bombarded, then the Insect-Humans took the opportunity to assault. Besides firing their guns, their mouthparts could also spit out bomb-like spheres of light, causing the fort to finally begin to shake and crack.

Lu Fan threw out his Wisdom Sword, which immediately transformed into a hundred sword shadows, decimating Insect-Humans. However, it was merely a drop in the bucket. In an instant, twenty Teleportation Gates disgorged more than five thousand bugs, their bodies rubbing against each other in such close quarters, producing a sound that made one’s sweat glands stand on end.

"Focus firepower on the Flying bugs." Tang Zheng pulled out his Fenglin Huoshan Army Equipment and waved, summoning the red-armored Kai Cavalry. They took the Bronze Cannons off their backs and unleashed a volley toward the swarm of insects, then grabbed their Yari and began their charge.

Dantai chose an open area in the suburbs, so the charge of the cavalry wasn’t hindered at all. After the first wave, they had eradicated the common bugs, and the second wave began to target the Overlord Beetles. The third wave was an attack on the gates.

Thanks to this SS-level mass-killing equipment, they managed to hold out for another round. Dantai rallied everyone to reinforce the fort during the respite.

As the intensity of the Insect-Humans’ attacks increased, the rest periods became shorter, and everyone became more and more exhausted.

"Dantai, we can’t keep going like this. We don’t even have a reserve team anymore. Think of an escape plan." Lin Weiguo leaned against the wall and sighed. If the intensity continued to increase, they wouldn’t be able to withstand it.

"En." Dantai looked at the Sub-castles below. Although there were no casualties yet, the consumption was too great. Even the newbies were starting to drink from the sweet spring to replenish their energy.

"What are you doing? Let go of me!" A woman’s angry shout suddenly broke the silence of the battlefield, drawing everyone’s eyes toward her.

Li Du stood next to the German flight attendant with an iron shovel in his hand, looking embarrassed. His face flushed with shame as he had tried to smooth things over with her, but touching her arm was enough to provoke her disgust.

"I..." Li Du’s lips moved several times, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak.

Seeing the soldier’s behavior, the German flight attendant looked down on him even more, not even giving him a backward glance as she walked toward the Sub-castle. If she were to lose her virtue, it definitely wouldn’t be to such a mediocre loser.

"Trash." The German flight attendant spat in disgust, turning to give Li Du a glare. If it weren’t for the overwhelming number of Chinese, she would have kicked this soldier where it hurt the most. He truly was a toad lusting after swan meat.

"You!" Li Du’s entire face turned purple with rage, and he stormed a few paces forward, intending to confront the flight attendant. After all, he was about to die anyway. Why should he care about such things?

"Li Du, what are you doing? Get back here!" commanded Platoon Leader Gao Qiang as he appeared and started berating him. "Have you no shame? Short of women? I’ll find you one once we get back."

"Bullshit! Are we even going to make it back? We’re all going to die here!" retorted Li Du, raising his voice. "How can these crappy guns hold off those bugs?"

Li Du took off his rifle and threw it on the ground. Platoon Leader Gao Qiang’s face turned ashen. He quickly strode over, kicked hard at Li Du’s thigh, toppling him, and then began to violently lash him with his belt.

"Tang Zheng, aren’t you going to intervene?" Dantai frowned, not expecting a soldier to be the first to crack under the pressure.

"You’re in command now." Tang Zheng didn’t want to get sidetracked by such matters. Among the captured items was a Branch Slave Dry Transport Aircraft. If the number of survivors fell to twenty, they might be able to escape via the sky, but if they were hit, it would mean the end for everyone. Ground evacuation, however, was far too dangerous.

Dantai suppressed the disturbance, unable to let Li Du cause chaos even among compatriots.

"Here they come again," yelled a soldier from the Mother Fort. The survivors still outside immediately ran toward their respective forts. This time, the breather was even shorter, less than ten minutes.

Five Teleportation Gates appeared, but this time no bugs came pouring out.

"What’s going on?" Bai Guo was puzzled.

"Take them out first, use heavy firepower." This strange occurrence was obviously not a good sign. As expected, Qin Yan only fired two shots before some Insect-Humans began to burst out and explode into white light, blinding the eyes of the survivors.

"Close your eyes," Tang Zheng shouted. Except for Bai Guo, the Natural Stupid, most of the Conquerors remembered these flash grenade-like Insect-Humans, so they closed their eyes immediately.

This time, not many jumped out, but they were all Insect-Humans and possessed superpowers, including about a dozen that could teleport. As they pounced into the Sub-castle, their bodies vanished, then reappeared inside the fort the next second.

Clang. Insect-Humans appeared inside the fort, their mantis-like arm-blades snapping open before they leapt at the survivors.

The newbies hadn’t anticipated this scenario and immediately panicked. Firing their weapons would risk collateral damage, so the Conquerors could only draw their melee weapons and rush to confront the enemy.

At the Third Sub-castle, an Insect-Human lunged and caught up with a soldier, swinging down its arm-blade and instantly severing half of the soldier’s head. Blood spurted out, and the soldier was dead.

"No!" The flight attendant, who had been targeted, screamed in terror. Li Du threw himself recklessly into the fray but then had his arm cut off and collapsed into a heap.

Yu Manli and Xu Liangmao activated their abilities and spent over a dozen seconds to clear out the enemies.

This Insect-Human ambush resulted in four soldier fatalities and six injuries, a loss more severe than any encountered before, casting a shadow of panic and dread over the team.

The German flight attendant looked at the dismembered Li Du, bit her lip, then finally squatted beside him to bandage his wound. Li Du gave a wry smile and pushed her away. Having lost his right arm, he was essentially disabled now. His chances of surviving this grueling ordeal had dwindled even further.

The soldier with the broken leg regained consciousness and saw the four corpses being carried back to the Mother Fort and another soldier with a severed leg. He pulled a wry smile, then pulled out his handgun from his waist, pointed it at his own head. He knew death was inevitable, and preferred to end it all early. The pain was already unbearable.
