Chapter 860: Chapter 21: Island Departure and Team Rankings
Yang Wei was a burden, unable to keep up with the squad’s pace. Because of her, Sha Ou and Yu Manli, who were responsible for covering their rear, complained incessantly.
"Don’t leave me behind, please, don’t leave me," the university student cried, her previous swagger gone, like a pitiful creature waiting for alms.
"Instead of shouting, you’d be better off running a few more steps," Lu Fan said, sitting on the Giant Spider, glancing at Tang Zheng, who was leading the way as the pioneer, and knowing that he certainly wouldn’t leave this girl behind. He irritably curled his lip and said, "Get on."
"Thank you." Yang Wei’s face lit up with surprise as she hastily expressed her thanks and clumsily climbed on, no longer caring about the spider’s fearsome appearance.
"What’s the use of saving such a burden?" Seeing Yang Wei panting on the back of the spider, Lu Fan couldn’t help feeling annoyed and blurted out, "Can’t you spend this time learning to use a gun? Look at Sister Xueqi."
Gu Xiaohua had no complaints or dissatisfaction. Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she followed close behind Tang Zheng, opening the way. Apart from wanting to learn more, getting closer to the Group Leader, and proving her worth, she naturally would be valued. Of course, Gu Xueqi never thought of trading her body for benefits; if Tang Zheng dared to lay a finger on her, Gu Xueqi would definitely blow his head off.
Due to previously correct tactics not being slowed down by newbies, the whole squad moved quickly and was the first to reach the pier.
"Did Dantai’s team make a mistake?" Hiding at the edge of the jungle and looking at the deserted pier, Sha Ou was a bit puzzled. "That’s not right, that kid seemed quite capable."
"Let’s go." Tang Zheng was the first to jump out and sprint toward the pier, where the national flag on the destroyer had been sprayed red with paint, fluttering in the breeze as an agreed-upon secret signal.
"Well done." Boarding the vessel and touching the railing, Lin Weiguo took a deep breath of the sea breeze and then shouted toward the bridge, "Set sail immediately!"
The Trojan Squad could hardly wait to leave this perilous small island.
When Tang Zheng arrived at the bridge, he saw Pang Meiqin posing as the captain, personally steering. Under her command, a platoon of soldiers was all over the place, clueless about what to do faced with screens full of data and buttons, eventually giving up and just standing guard.
Seeing Tang Zheng, the guards didn’t salute, but their respectful demeanor was evident. There was no helping it; the fresh blood and formidable aura of the Group Leader alone was enough to command their respect. Furthermore, they had seen how Bai Guo, Dantai, and others fought; they admitted that even if their entire company attacked together, they couldn’t beat them. Consequently, the Group Leader they looked up to was naturally even more impressive.
"Will it work?" Tang Zheng was also puzzled. This warship wasn’t something an ordinary person could operate.
"You all go out, find the Company Commander, see if there’s anywhere you can help. Don’t waste labor staying in here," Pang Meiqin said after all the soldiers had left. She then cast a seductive glance at Tang Zheng and said with a smile, "What do you think?"
The destroyer started and slowly left the harbor, followed by cheers on the deck.
"Nice job," Tang Zheng complimented, then turned to leave, he still had to inspect other parts of the ship, but Pang Meiqin grabbed him.
"I want a reward." The beautiful leg stewardess pulled him close, ignoring his puzzled look, leaned in, and kissed his lips.
Tang Zheng pushed Pang Meiqin away. He had no time for such things; they needed to leave the island before other squads arrived, otherwise, the adversary’s Hellfire could set sail and easily sink their warship.
"No use rushing, the warship still needs time to accelerate," Pang Meiqin said, glancing out the window at the deck, watching the soldiers bustling and said suggestively, "I bet you’ve never done it on the bridge, want to give it a try?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Tang Zheng frowned and turned away.
"Such a prude! What’s so special about car sex, ship sex is far more thrilling," Pang Meiqin thought Tang Zheng lacked excitement, as this warship was way more fun than a yacht.
The brutal killings and the Conquerors’ indifference finally made the newbies realize the harsh reality. In the subsequent journey, everyone fought desperately to survive, and thankfully nobody fell behind. However, by the time they reached the pier, they were almost dead tired.
Fleischer’s squad, though not complete and picked over by Landeck, had a good teleportation point close to the pier, so they were the second to arrive.
"Damn, someone beat us to it." The Conqueror in the Borussia Dortmund kit surveyed the scene, looked at the dead native soldiers and the spent cartridges on the ground, and couldn’t help but roar in frustration.
"Which squad do you think it was?" One of the neo-Nazi youth, holding a rifle, looked out over the sea.
"Judging by the caliber of the cartridges, it was a Chinese squad, yeah, it must have been that young Chinese’s team, after all the newbies in his squad are professional soldiers," the woman in the leather outfit said with a frown, voicing her doubts, "I’ve prepared a patrol boat; we can leave the island, but where to next? Blue Trojan hasn’t sent any instructions, so why could they leave without looking back?"
"Maybe they got some intel we don’t know about?" the man in the suit was also a thinker.
"Regardless, let’s leave this island first; this might signify the end of the first stage. Once at sea, there should be instructions," the woman in leather clothes said as she reached the end of the pier and released her large armed patrol boat. Equipped with anti-ship missiles and torpedoes, it also had two twin-linked 60mm quick-firing guns. With such fierce firepower, it could even annihilate a fleet of Somali Pirate speedboats."
As formidable Conquerors, it would be embarrassing not to have some vehicles. Including the soccer fan’s luxury yacht, Fleischer’s team possessed four sea-going vessels.
When boarding the ship, the Newbies had another conflict. The stewardesses all wanted to board early, leading to some quarreling and crowding. However, the neo-Nazis took care of their own first, so a Jewish stewardess had bad luck. A young man kicked her off the deck and into the sea. Had she not been able to swim, she surely would have drowned.
"Bastard," Hans cursed, spitting at the floundering stewardess in the sea. If it had been allowed, he would have shot her dead.
"Get lost," the man in the suit tasked with maintaining order came up behind Hans and kicked him in the waist, sending him tumbling off the deck. He then coldly turned his gaze towards the neo-Nazis, "Whoever causes trouble next, I’ll kill them first."
"We are all compatriots, and at times like this, we should be united," the woman in leather tried to persuade them, thinking that no matter how bad the Newbies were, they needed to be united.
The moment everyone had just finished boarding, a fierce gun battle erupted from the jungle. The Landeck Squad had engaged in combat with the Xu Changtai Squad.
Xu Changtai’s Squad had arrived five minutes earlier but did not want to clash with Fleischer’s team, so they planned to wait. Unfortunately, they were ambushed by Landeck and his men.
"Get down, everyone get down!" Yaoyao shouted, instructing the Newbies to find cover. There was no hope for them to counterattack, but that didn’t mean they should die senselessly.
After Landeck’s training, his squad’s combat power had improved and they completely suppressed Xu Changtai’s team. The war situation was one-sided. A few of the Chinese soldiers reacted quite quickly, but they were instantly subdued by the Conquerors’ firepower, rendering them ineffective.
"Ceasefire, or none of the Newbies on both sides will survive," Huangfu Xiong knew that if this continued, all the Newbies would die there and then. He immediately activated his Armed Hellfire, rushed into the fray, and triggered his Impact Beam wildly, exploding several parts of the jungle. However, he dared not incur a massacre, or the situation would become uncontrollable.
"That’s not up to you!" Landeck was smug, intending to signal Fleischer to conduct a pincer attack and annihilate the team before them. But the next moment, he was dumbfounded as the armed patrol boat left without any hesitation.
"Fleischer, that bastard, that short-sighted fool, I’m going to butcher him," Yannick fumed, angry that the alliance formed just an hour before was about to crumble.
"We agree to a ceasefire," the Star of Beauty, Sara, came forward to mediate immediately, realizing that continuing the fight was pointless.
Shouts for ceasefire rose in chorus, and the gunshots finally ceased. Both teams regrouped, and the Group Leaders felt miserable. In the chaos of battle, seven of Xu Changtai’s group were injured, and because they were ’cared for’ specially, two soldiers died. Landeck’s team lost a young man and a stewardess, and another young man had his leg blown off.
"What the hell is this?" Huangfu Xiong was furious, wishing he could slaughter all those responsible.
The Chinese team, wary, retreated to the pier, released a yacht, boarded it, and quickly departed. Only then did Landeck and his men start to board their own vehicle, an armed merchant ship.
"Sister Lena, isn’t our action kind of unscrupulous?" the woman in an apron called out Lena’s name with some concern, "It will be difficult to cooperate in the future."
"Just say we were chasing that Chinese team," Lena said with a telescope in hand, observing the armaments and personnel on the two speedboats. She smiled, "Having a few more injured is good."
As the last speedboat left the pier and headed for the open sea, the long-awaited announcement finally echoed from the handsets.
"Death Thorn Phase One has ended. The team score rankings are as follows: Tang Zheng’s Warhammer team, Fleischer’s Wanderers team, Landeck’s Stars team, Xu Changtai’s West Lake Longjing Tea team."
The Newbies all held their handsets, and at the moment of hearing the announcement, there were cheers and laments alike. There were shouts of joy on the warship, and the Company Commander breathed a sigh of relief, glad to have not made the wrong decision.
The two German teams, however, fell silent, cursing under their breath, vowing to kill the Chinese team. The stewardesses weren’t thinking that far, just worried about whether they would survive.
Xu Changtai’s Newbies had ashen faces, regretting not joining Tang Zheng’s team. The shrewish Yang Fengshu muttered incessantly, cursed non-stop, and got slapped again by the irritated North Wind, finally quieting down.
"Please proceed to these coordinates for the second stage of the Game," the handsets displayed a sea chart with the coordinates, and the Blue Trojan fell silent. As for the Conquerors unable to understand? Naturally, they would be eliminated.
In the Trojan Horse Game, Conquerors needed to master many obscure pieces of knowledge, but fortunately, the four teams did not stumble on this point.
