Chapter 786: Chapter 49 Generous Drop
The heavyset Demonic Shadow Daimyo was clad in a large armor suit, which didn’t show much of his body size. Still, it did not hinder his movements; he even had the upper hand during his attack against the ancient Samurai.
His black suit and helmet were marked with two clan symbols. Unfortunately, Tang Zheng didn’t have a good knowledge of Japanese history. Otherwise, he would have recognized this Demonic Shadow Daimyo as Imagawa Yoshimoto, who was defeated by Oda Nobunaga during the Battle of Okehazama.
With his Gunpei damaged, Imagawa Yoshimoto took a deep breath with a rage. His chest inflated like a balloon, and he exhaled, spewing out countless fireballs like a shotgun.
The scorching fireballs engulfed the Samurai, causing explosions around him leading to flying dust and scattering stones.
Having driven the Samurai back, the Daimyo immediately fixated on Tang Zheng, who was the enemy commander he desired to kill.
Tang Zheng tried to activate the Third-order Explosive Seed State, but failed. He grabbed a Samurai Sword, easily slaying an advancing infantry soldier. Gazing at the charging Demonic Shadow Daimyo, he barely resisted the urge to invoke the Great Saint Tattoo on the back of his hand and summon Sun Monkey.
Even during his wild charge, the Daimyo continued to attack. His right hand rose, and a gilded longbow appeared. He pulled the bowstring taut with his left hand. Countless speckles of white light soon condensed into a decorated arrow.
Hum, the arrow, after the twang of the bow, streaked through the air like a meteor, reaching Tang Zheng in the blink of an eye.
The arrow was incredibly fast. Tang Zheng tilted his head to dodge it, but it grazed his cheek, scraping away a piece of skin.
Whoosh, the second arrow arrived, not leaving Tang Zheng with any breathing room. He dodged again. This time, his movements were distorted. If he hadn’t activated the seed, he would have been hit.
Less than a moment later, the third arrow arrived. One of the half-dead infantry on the ground suddenly leaped up, ambushing Tang Zheng and stabbing his abdomen with a bamboo spear.
Thanks to the Tyrannosaurus Protective Clothing, the spear didn’t pierce his abdomen but glanced off. This distraction disrupted Tang Zheng’s evasive movements.
Boom, the arrow hit Tang Zheng square in the chest and exploded, throwing him off balance. The fourth and fifth arrows followed in quick succession, hitting and exploding on his body.
Tang Zheng was blown into mid-air, unable to control his body.
Liu Qian chuckled at the sight of Tang Zheng’s misfortune. However, the other newbies were not in the mood for amusement. Their faces turned pale. If Tang Zheng, as powerful as he was, couldn’t retaliate against the Demonic Shadow Daimyo, didn’t it mean that they were bound to lose?
Cheng Cheng, seeing her ’big brother’s’ desperate situation, filled with worry, rushed out of the car to assist.
Song Huiqiao was startled and quickly grabbed Cheng Cheng’s arm. Debating whether to drive away or not, she decided to stay a little longer. If Tang Zheng survived, abandoning him could doom her future.
Jing Xiang hesitated a moment when she saw Tang Zheng in danger. Despite her fear, she left her room, entered a beastly state, and charged towards the battlefield on the rooftop.
"Damn Silver Trojan. If our group leader had weapons, he wouldn’t be in such a state." Jing Xiang was not smart, but she knew that if Tang Zheng died, her chances of survival would be slim. She knew that she wouldn’t pass the line of Lu Fan and Xin Lan. If the office lady fled without helping, the little loli would surely kill her.
The Daimyo scoffed at Jing Xiang, not paying much attention to her, and continued firing at Tang Zheng.
With his excellent archery skills, the Demonic Shadow Daimyo kept Tang Zheng airborne. Each attempt by Tang Zheng to stabilize was interrupted by Daimyo’s arrows, keeping him in mid-air and pushing him tens of meters away.
When Jing Xiang jumped towards the Daimyo, he suddenly switched targets and aimed at her, firing a spotted arrow.
The office lady was startled but instinctively dodged due to the night-vision ability and cat-like agility granted by the beastly state.
"Huh?" The Daimyo voiced his surprise. Immediately filled with rage, he found it intolerable that such a trivial soldier avoided a sure kill. So, this time, he channeled slightly more energy as he fully drew the bowstring.
Countless spots of light quickly condensed, forming a larger arrow.
Jing Xiang darted forward, looking at Imagawa Yoshimoto, completely covered by his dark armor. Her heart pounded uncontrollably with fear as she compared him to an evil spirit.
"Heh!" Jing Xiang held a Samurai Sword, remembering Tang Zheng’s teachings. She exhaled loudly, exerting all her strength, and let out a roar. It seemed like this shout had chased away all her fear and panic, leaving only unwavering determination in her heart.
Despite Jing Xiang’s steady gaze, she was significantly underpowered.
Imagawa Yoshimoto released the bowstring, and the arrow was shot. In the air, it replicated to form hundreds more.
Jing Xiang’s face paled considerably. As she was panicking, unsure as to whether to advance or dodge, she heard Tang Zheng’s roar.
"Dodge!"
Having been reprimanded by Tang Zheng, Jing Xiang didn’t dare question him. She bent her knees slightly and then burst into the air with all her strength.
Boom, boom, boom. The barrage of light arrows pierced the rooftop, instantly shattering a whole building into pieces, with dust swirling around.
Jing Xiang heard the massive rumble behind her. She couldn’t help but glance back, finding the entire building had entirely collapsed. A chill ran down her spine — if hit by those arrows, she would have been obliterated.
"Watch out!" Tang Zheng, with a face covered in blood due to the arrow barrage, landed on the ground. He was shocked to see that Jing Xiang had been distracted during the battle.
"Ah!" Jing Xiang was startled awake, but almost immediately an arrow pierced her shoulder, exploding upon impact.
Jing Xiang’s shoulder was blown to pieces, and she fell from the sky. The Daimyo tried to fire another arrow, but a warrior rushed out and hammered at its head, forcing it to switch its attack to defense.
Watching Jing Xiang tumbling from the rooftop and landing on Main Street in agony, Tang Zheng let out a sigh of relief. As long as she’s alive, it’s good. However, he was far from being alright. His protective clothing was still intact, but his internal organs had been shocked. Besides, the arrow fragments had cut open pieces of his forehead and flipped the scalp.
"Daylily, heal Jing Xiang," Tang Zheng commanded Daylily once again. As for himself, it wasn’t necessary as his injuries were mostly superficial.
The Daimyo managed to block it but was still repelled by the warhammer. Tang Zheng, seizing the moment, pulled out two samurai swords from the dead body of a Demonic Shadow Cavalry. His combat efficiency had decreased significantly without any weapon, forcing him to engage in rough and tough melee combat.
The Daimyo used the toe-pointing technique to stabilize during the retreat, then released a rain of arrows like a meteor shower towards the warrior.
The warrior moved his body, shifting directions on the street. But even then, he couldn’t escape the attack without any blind spots and was hit. The arrows pierced his body and exploded. The surrounding buildings and telegraph poles were wholly shattered by the impending shockwave.
"It’s over. We can’t win," the newbies turned pale with fright. They were about to flee at the sight of Tang Zheng being knocked back, but they stopped when they saw him emerge. They had nowhere else to go.
Tang Zheng leapt into the fray, cutting towards the Daimyo’s neck with the samurai sword. Imagawa Yoshimoto used his longbow to entangle the sword’s blade and swiftly drew out the scabbard, performing a Battojutsu strike.
Tang Zheng only felt a flash of white light before he quickly retreated, but it was already too late. His abdomen instantly felt the slicing pain.
After using the Iaijutsu, the Daimyo immediately slashed back. However, Tang Zheng escaped barely by retreating.
As both sides distanced themselves, Tang Zheng found himself unable to use the samurai sword effectively. Imagawa Yoshimoto drew in a breath, his chest swelling before he unleashed a fireball engulfing Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng was forced to retreat once again. He breathed a sigh of relief, feeling fortunate that his opponent was only a mini-boss and the samurai sword was at most of S grade. Otherwise, his intestines would have spilled out from the cut.
Imagawa Yoshimoto accurately seized the opportunity to attack. After performing a counter slash, he smoothly returned the blade to its sheath and continued to draw his bow. His right hand pulled on the bowstring like a piston in an engine, creating afterimages. Numerous arrows whistled through the air, enveloping Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng was enraged and had to retreat once again to dodge. Perhaps due to the change in his emotions, he surprisingly activated his Third-order Explosive Seed State.
"Gravity Suppression!" The air within twenty yards around Tang Zheng visibly descended. Even the white healing halo that Daylily bestowed on him had a deviation. The speckled arrows seemed as if they were grabbed by invisible hands and violently pressed onto the ground, forcibly changing their trajectory.
When the arrows hit the ground, they exploded. However, the debris and dust couldn’t fly into the air as they were suppressed to the ground. Tang Zheng shot out instantly.
The ragged warrior approached and attacked the Daimyo.
The Daimyo felt his body sink as if it was pressed down by an invisible mountain, forcing it to involuntarily bend its knees.
The Daimyo tried to resist, its feet sinking into the ground. But a moment of distraction provided an opportunity that the Warrior took, hammering the Daimyo into the ground.
After entering the Third-order Explosive Seed State, Tang Zheng could use two abilities simultaneously. He applied the full force of Gravity Suppression onto the Demonic Shadow Daimyo.
Boom, boom, boom. The warrior kept hammering the Daimyo, not giving it an opportunity to counterattack. Tang Zheng rushed over, plunging the samurai sword into its back, aiming to chop it into pieces. However, the Daimyo’s body was too tough.
The samurai sword’s friction against the armor produced a harsh noise. Then suddenly, the sword broke, making Tang Zheng almost trip.
The Daimyo tried to spit out a fireball, but the relentless hammering on its face prevented it. It tried to shoot with the bow. Tang Zheng, however, held its hand tightly and pulled it down with all his strength.
No suspense remained. Two minutes later, the Demonic Shadow Daimyo, Imagawa Yoshimoto, was dead under the assault of Tang Zheng and the Warrior.
Boom, the Daimyo’s corpse exploded into a cloud of black mist and dissipated into the air. A longbow was left behind, followed by three golden seeds scattering around. Just as Tang Zheng was complaining about the lack of soul shards from the shadow soldiers, dozens of shards exploded out and fell onto the street.
With the death of the Daimyo, the bodies of the family vassals, warriors, and foot soldiers started to crumble into smoke and disappear.
"We... we won?" The faces of the newbies were full of disbelief, which then turned into joy. They started heading downstairs to congratulate Tang Zheng and hoping to snag a shard or two.
