Chapter 767: Chapter 30 Mediocrity
After wandering around Tobu Hall for half an hour, Tang Zheng’s radar detected movement. Arriving at the scene, he found Jing Xiang in her beastly state, being chased by a Shadow Demon Warrior.
This woman was timid and cowardly. She had failed her second attempt at an attack and started to run away. It ended in failure, as expected. However, it was not completely her fault. If she didn’t receive a Seed Ability from Tang Zheng, she wouldn’t have survived this long.
Without guidance, the mediocre Jing Xiang couldn’t fully utilize her Seed Ability’s combat power. If not for the one-time boost in physical capabilities from the initial Seed Ability activation, she would have been long dead. In addition to that, this round had weapon restrictions. Jing Xiang’s pitiful score from the first battle wasn’t enough to buy powerful equipment. Thus, her incompetence was unsurprising.
If the Demon were reduced by half its powers, Jing Xiang might stand a chance. However, her mind was in disarray, filled with thoughts of escaping. She was not a strong woman.
Tang Zheng parked his MPV, got out of the car, and summoned the ancient warrior to stop the demonic shadow.
Caught in the glare of the car’s headlights, Jing Xiang squinted, then spotted a familiar figure nearby. She cried out in joy and ran over.
Tang Zheng ignored the battlefield and looked at the panting woman in front of him who was doubled over, her hands resting on her knees.
Jing Xiang was dressed in a tattered blue ladies’ suit with a Primary Protective Clothing underneath. As for her own form, there had been some changes.
After Xu Liang Mao Beastified, he grew longer body hair which increased his protective force. As a woman, Jing Xiang naturally cared about her appearance, and under the influence of her sanity, her hair only grew slightly, turning orange. She also grew a pair of cat ears and a tail. Her nails could instantly grow longer and became extraordinarily sharp, cutting through steel like ripping paper. Apart from these, there were no other changes.
"Cancel your ability; don’t you feel it’s a waste of life energy?" Tang Zheng was annoyed. This woman had no sense of judgment for her own abilities. Compared to Bai Guo’s natural stupidity, Jing Xiang was simply mediocre.
"Oh." Jing Xiang jumped and seemed to be scared of being scolded by Tang Zheng. Like a girl who had done something wrong, she slouched her shoulders and her eyes darted around, avoiding eye contact with him.
"What’s your ability called? I remember you mentioning that you have good night vision?" Tang Zheng frowned. The city during a power outage should be more favorable for her to act, right?
"It’s called Catwoman Form. I’m good at jumping and climbing, and have night vision," Jing Xiang looked nervously at Tang Zheng, afraid that he would be dissatisfied with her abilities. She wracked her brains to increase their perceived benefits, "That’s right, my hearing is pretty good too. I can also climb up vertical buildings barehanded."
"With such excellent abilities, why can’t you defeat the Shadow Demon Warrior? Are you brainless?" Tang Zheng couldn’t help but reprimand Jing Xiang. If Pang Meiqin had these abilities, the Beautiful Leg Stewardess would definitely have done better than her.
Tears streamed down her face. Jing Xiang started crying again. Like quail, she tucked in her neck, waiting for Tang Zheng’s reprimands.
"You..." Tang Zheng was almost infuriated by Jing Xiang’s behavior. She didn’t understand what he meant. Taking a few deep breaths, he still couldn’t resist raising his voice, "Do you know why I’m giving you a hard time?"
"I did something wrong." Jing Xiang mumbled quietly.
"Louder, haven’t you had breakfast?"
"I...did something wrong," Jing Xiang’s voice only grew a little louder, but it was still weak and feeble. "I didn’t eat."
Tang Zheng was taken aback. He didn’t expect Jing Xiang to actually tell him she hadn’t had breakfast, subsequently feeling that talking to her was quite strenuous.
Jing Xiang wasn’t oblivious to Tang Zheng’s sarcasm. It’s just that she was scared, and her mind was completely muddled.
"Tell me, what did you do wrong?" Seeing Jing Xiang’s timid look, Tang Zheng had a headache.
"I shouldn’t have run away." Jing Xiang wasn’t as calm as Tang Zheng. After hearing the loud clash of metal, she couldn’t help but look at the two battling warriors.
"Look up at me." Tang Zheng held Jing Xiang’s chin, aiming her face at his own.
Under the moonlight, Tang Zheng’s facial contours exuded determination and fearlessness. Jing Xiang’s face instantly flushed. She had never been so close to a man before.
"Why didn’t you prepare weapons and medical supplies? Have you assessed your own abilities? Even if you’re escaping, you should first determine the safest route, not run around like a headless fly like you did. What were you doing all day? Answer me!"
Hearing Tang Zheng’s series of questions, Jing Xiang was dumbfounded. She felt wronged, as she didn’t understand these things. As a result, large teardrops welled up in her eyes.
Cheng Cheng had woken up and was sitting obediently in the car, not daring to interrupt Tang Zheng.
Seeing the Little Lolita peeking at her, Jing Xiang felt even more embarrassed. She had been reprimanded in front of a little girl, and her shame spread from her feet and coursed through her body, causing her to shudder slightly. Her legs instinctively tightened.
"Tang Zheng, please." Jing Xiang wanted Tang Zheng to give her a break or to scold her when no one was around.
"Call me for what? Answer the question." Tang Zheng had no intention of letting Jing Xiang go. Unless thoroughly rebuked, she would continue to be as foolish as she currently was.
Jing Xiang took another glance at Cheng Cheng. Seeing the little girl’s clear big eyes full of concern for her, the already frightened female office worker couldn’t take the shameful PLAY any longer. Her legs trembled and she wet herself.
Jing Xiang squatted down in shame, burying her head in her knees and sobbed softly.
"Why are you hiding? Stand up and answer the question." If it were a man standing in front of him, Tang Zheng would have kicked him. "Can’t you pull yourself together?"
A few dozen meters away, the ancient warrior was dismantling the shadow demon into pieces after subduing it.
Jing Xiang felt ashamed, yet she dared not defy Tang Zheng’s command, so she stood up trembling.
"Can you stand firmly?" Tang Zheng taught Jing Xiang. He looked at her trembling legs, saw that her trousers were soaked through, and that there was a puddle of water under her feet. He paused before he realized what had happened and couldn’t utter the words that were on his lips: he had actually made a woman wet herself in fright.
"Am I that terrifying?" Tang Zheng muttered and waved his hand, "go wait in the car. I’ll take care of the rest."
Feeling pardoned, Jing Xiang opened the car door, but paused just as she was about to get in.
"What are you dazing off about now?" Tang Zheng was annoyed. This woman was draining his patience.
"Dirty, clothes." Jing Xiang was afraid of soiling the car and didn’t dare to sit. She wanted to find some replacement for her clothes.
"As of now, do whatever I say and don’t ask questions." Tang Zheng didn’t feel like arguing. It was late at night, where was he supposed to find women’s clothing for her? As for the MPV, so what if it got dirty? It wasn’t his car anyway.
"Okay." Jing Xiang jumped into the carriage like a rabbit hit by an arrow and curled up.
"Strictly speaking, this woman should be the most obedient one, having no ideas of her own. With proper guidance, she could definitely become an obedient puppet. I wouldn’t even need to worry about her resistance." Tang Zheng felt this idea was rather evil and decided not to try it. "With her abilities as a scout, my survival rate can be increased by at least 30%. Of course, Jing Xiang would benefit as well."
Tang Zheng was again torn by his choices. He could be a bit ruthless, but he was subconsciously reluctant to exploit women.
The warrior finished off the shadow demon, walked over carrying his warhammer, and tossed a piece of soul shard to Tang Zheng before disappearing.
Jing Xiang’s eyes were full of envy. She also wanted such a powerful servant. She wouldn’t have to lift a finger, just hide in the back and wait for it to annihilate the monsters. That would be very safe.
"Don’t always envy others. Try your best to develop your own abilities." Tang Zheng tossed the soul shard to Jing Xiang as he sat in the driver’s seat and started the car.
Catching the shiny fragment that looked like a diamond, Jing Xiang was as awkward as if she were holding a hot potato, not knowing what to do.
"It’s yours. Come with me for the next few days." Leaving Jing Xiang alone would accomplish nothing. It would be better to keep her by his side and train her.
"Thank you." Jing Xiang felt like she’d been hit by a pie falling from the sky. With joy written all over her face, she quickly thanked him. The office lady held the soul shard tightly in her hands. Despite the pain it brought, she felt very happy because she knew it represented her hope of survival.
"I’ll do as you say." Jing Xiang was too shy. She moved her lips a few times, but didn’t say it out loud. However, she had made up her mind to follow the group leader’s instructions unconditionally from now on.
When dawn came and the street became crowded, demons would not appear again. Tang Zheng returned to his hunting zone and found a convenience store with a garage.
Tang Zheng arrived at the narrow back alley, violently broke open the backdoor of the convenience store, and went in. Jing Xiang dragged Cheng Cheng along behind him.
"Wait here." Tang Zheng frowned, not wanting the child to see his violent behavior.
Tang Zheng had scouted the place the previous day. The convenience store, the size of a basketball court, was run by a hard-working woman who had a daughter, making it an ideal place for Tang Zheng to shelter temporarily.
Tang Zheng walked through the lobby, grabbed a bag of potato chips, ate as he walked to the bedroom at the back.
Due to the shopping rush the day before, half of the goods in the shop had been sold. The store owner, Xi Zi, could finally sleep in a bit. However, the habit ingrained over many years still woke her up at five o’clock. She mocked her own toiling life, planning to sleep a bit more. Just then, she saw her door being opened.
"Who’s there?" Xi Zi was startled. She was about to get up when she felt a figure pouncing on her.
Tang Zheng moved so quietly that he didn’t make a sound. So when he opened the door and found the woman wide awake, he instantly reacted. He sprung forward like a tiger and pinned her down.
Xi Zi wanted to cry for help when she felt a big hand covering her mouth. Through the light coming in from the floor-to-ceiling window, she saw the intruding young man.
"Don’t move, your daughter is in my hands." Tang Zheng threatened Xi Zi. This woman under him kept writhing, trying to struggle free.
