Chapter 724: Chapter 66 It’s You Who Are Trapped
"Tang Zheng, you can’t do this." Yi Ting, anxious, ran a few steps, tugging at Tang Zheng’s arm, "We’re all striving to kill the Queen together. Any information and benefits should be shared."
"Hey, our relationship isn’t exactly harmonious." Lu Fan extended his finger, prodded Yi Ting’s abdomen, asking her to step back and away from Tang Zheng.
"That’s just internal strife." Yi Ting stared into Tang Zheng’s eyes fervently. She hadn’t been idle these past few days either. She’d tried to get information from the target that Zhuo Lie had saved, but he bore a grudge against Zhuo Lie, who had beaten him up, and refused to speak.
Looking at Tang Lu’s friendly attitude towards Tang Zheng, Old Zhou also felt aggrieved. He blamed Zhuo Lie. If he had cared more about the target, instead of treating him like cargo, they wouldn’t be in this awkward situation now.
"Just a joke, don’t be so tense. Okay, you all stay in the room, there’s no problem with that, right?" Tang Zheng, with a triumphant smirk as if he had just executed a successful prank, shrugged his shoulders, then took the two young girls and left. Chen Hong wanted to follow but was glared back by Lu Fan.
"Alright, it’s over; everyone cool off, let’s get along." Yi Ting drew a breath of relief, if they hadn’t been abandoned, there would still be a room for reconciliation. "Old Zhou, Tang Zheng isn’t bad. A man who can save a young girl can’t be that bad, can he? Stop targeting him all the time."
In addition to trusting Tang Zheng’s character, Yi Ting was also using her words to express her stance, wining favor with both sides. Of course, she dared not say these words to Zhuo Lie, or else she would undoubtedly be slapped swollen in the face.
"Idiot, serves her right to be taken advantage of." Hearing Yi Ting’s words, Lu Fan almost laughed himself to death because he saw Tang Zheng’s face fall at the exact moment he turned his back to them, despite the smile plastered on his face.
"What’s going on here?" As soon as Tang Zheng left the room, he saw two fully armed soldiers standing outside with expressionless faces.
"Bodyguards." Tang Lu introduced the two soldiers to Tang Zheng in a friendly manner before she started to stroll down the corridor with him.
"I missed you, can I ask you out for dinner tonight?" Tang Zheng figured out that something was wrong when Tang Lu squeezed his hand tightly and cast him a covert glance. As they passed by the restroom, he suddenly embraced Tang Lu, kissed her on the lips, and pushed her into the restroom.
The two soldiers were startled; they held their rifles and prepared to stop them.
"Can you guys not be such killjoys?" Lu Fan blocked the restroom door with Cheng Cheng, and one of the soldiers, unable to stop, bumped into her.
Lu Fan gasped as if in pain upon the impact and conveniently staggered to the entrance of the restroom, a pained expression crossing her face.
The two soldiers hesitated for a moment but did not give chase.
"Protection or surveillance?" Tang Zheng released Tang Lu as soon as he entered the restroom. If the soldiers came in, he would have no choice but to resort to violence and the memory eraser. But Lu Fan did a good job.
"I’m not sure, but it never hurts to be careful." Tang Lu licked her chapped lips, stood on tiptoes, and leaned towards Tang Zheng’s ear in worry, whispering, "I don’t have enough time to develop a perfect antivirus reagent, so you mustn’t inject anything. I’ve made some nutrient solution that is the same color; it should fool them."
"Will death be inevitable after injection?" Tang Zheng frowned. Since the Silver Trojan had instructed the survivors to rescue people like Tang Lu, the means to kill the Queen must be on them. This suicidal attack method wasn’t what he wanted.
"I’ve analyzed the original product and made a dozen or so improved reagents. Although the attack power against the Queen has increased, the effects are all unstable. No one knows what will happen after it’s used. It’s a fifty-fifty chance of either dying or surviving." Tang Lu clung to Tang Zheng, not letting go, her voice full of regret, "I’m sorry, I can’t help you."
"What’s the difference between the improved and the original?" Tang Zheng didn’t mind; he patted Tang Lu’s head, not wanting to hurt the girl’s feelings, so he didn’t push her away.
"The improved reagent is more powerful. Once it enters the virtual world, it will continually invade and decompose the Queen until it collapses, self-destructing upon the host death and forming countless worms that will not stop until they devour the Queen. However, the side effects are more obvious, as its use can lead to degradation of physical functions and even death before entering the virtual realm." Tang Lu was quite confident in her hacking skills and spoke with conviction.
"How many can you make before we set off tomorrow morning?" For such potent antivirus reagents, Tang Zheng had no reason not to use them.
"About a hundred." Tang Lu made a quick calculation and gave a number.
"You help me make it; I’ll find any materials you need." With a Bai Guo that could turn invisible, Tang Zheng was not worried about getting supplies.
"Should we report to the commander then? Since the soldiers have joined the Dare to Die Team, it would be more cost-effective for them to inject the improved reagent." Even knowing that the Dare to Die Team’s destiny was certain death, Tang Lu didn’t want to perform such an act, she would feel guilty. But she wanted to help Tang Zheng because without him, she would remain as a living battery, living in a tank until her life was exhausted and she died.
"There’s no time for that. Plus, if we use an unstable reagent and several people die prematurely, the soldiers of the Dare to Die Team will sense that something is off and might create an uproar." The Dare to Die Team knew this mission was a do-or-die challenge, but they didn’t know that the moment they injected the reagent, their fate was sealed. The scenario in which they returned as triumphant heroes was just a fantasy.
"Alright, as you say." Tang Lu didn’t want to do this either. When Tang Zheng refused, she let out a sigh of relief.
"Select a few samples and inject these people." Tang Zheng opened his wristwatch, and displayed on the virtual screen were the profiles of Zhuo Lie, Old Zhou, Zi Xin, Mei Jueye, and the driver.
"Okay." Tang Lu agreed without any hesitation or doubt, which moved Tang Zheng.
"Don’t feel guilty. They all deserve to die." Tang Zheng lifted Tang Lu’s black hair casually, touched her fair forehead, and then cracked a self-deprecating smile, "So do I."
"No, you’re not." Tang Lu hugged Tang Zheng, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him on the lips, "This is my reward."
Thinking that they had been in the restroom for too long, and remembering their orders to monitor them, the two soldiers hesitated no more. They pushed past Lu Fan and stormed in, only to see the two in the midst of a kiss. Certain that there was nothing amiss, they retreated once again.
"Add this woman to it." In the end, Tang Zheng added Yi Ting’s avatar. He couldn’t trust a woman who wasn’t by his side.
"Hmm, remember, there’s a problem with the ones on the left of the insulated box." Tang Lu reminded Tang Zheng in a low, soft voice.
Thirty minutes later, two Trojan Squads arrived at Tang Lu’s laboratory for the ’antivirus reagent’ injection.
"Let’s get started." Tang Zheng took off his protective clothing, revealing his muscular arm.
Tang Lu opened the constant temperature box, a puff of white gas immediately rose, she pulled out a metal syringe, broke off the protective needle, jabbed it into the bicep and pushed the blue liquid into Tang Zheng’s body with her thumb.
Seeing this, Yi Ting and Old Zhou breathed a sigh of relief, which meant the other party hadn’t played any tricks.
"Will there be any side effects on the fetus?" The Conquerors took turns for the injection, but when it was Ai Yixin’s turn, Chu Baichuan, frowning, asked a question.
"None." Tang Lu was very calm, because it was originally a side-effect-free nutrient solution. Zhuo Lie, who had been frowning, only then breathed a sigh of relief, whereas Zi Xin, who had been emotionless, frowned.
"Forget it." Chu Baichuan stopped her, asking Tang Zheng for help, "I’ll work hard on my share for Yixin, so let’s not inject her."
"Why? Because she’s pregnant?" Chen Hong, clutching her shoulder, was dissatisfied.
"Inject. There’s no problem." Tang Zheng would not allow Chu Baichuan to be the exception. He didn’t want any complications. If the leaders found out that Tang Lu had switched the reagent, the young girl would also be in trouble.
Chu Baichuan tried to argue, but was pulled back by Ai Yixin.
"Trust the group leader, he won’t harm us." Ai Yixin gestured for Tang Lu to go ahead, a wise woman, knowing much from just one look.
"Can I not be injected?" The Driver took off his clothes, his miserable expression like that of a condemned prisoner.
Tang Lu’s hand trembled imperceptibly, but no one noticed.
"What do you think? Just do what the boss says!" Yao Feng, who had just finished his injection, sneered, "Without the boss, you’d be dead by now."
"I think I can’t, come on." The Driver watching the blue liquid enter his body, suddenly shivered, sweating on his forehead.
Although Tang Zheng’s face was calm, his heart pounded. If the Driver were to die right now, it would impossible to keep Zhuo Lie in the dark, and they would lose a newbie.
"Group Leader Tang, I feel a little uncomfortable." The middle-aged man’s lips were trembling, and his voice was somewhat mournful.
"It’s just a psychological effect, go rest a bit on the side." Tang Zheng’s acting was very on-point, even Zhuo Lie didn’t suspect anything.
Watching the middle-aged man with a hunched back, walking lonely towards and leaning on the wall, Tang Zheng felt a bit guilty. If he died, he would have to take at least half the responsibility.
"I can’t betray those who trust me, who have entrusted their lives to me again. Whether you can live or not, it’s up to your luck."
Newbies are cannon fodder, this is almost an unwritten rule in the Trojan Room. Either die or climb up on your hands. Tang Zheng didn’t inject the improved reagent into the remaining two female employees because of his male chauvinism - men are not dead yet, women, please step back. Besides, Chen Hong and Jing Xiang have good temperaments, they are not the kind of women who forget favors and think of themselves only. Otherwise, Tang Zheng wouldn’t have found it so hard to make a decision.
Yi Ting and Old Zhou didn’t notice anything wrong, and they both accepted the injections. But when it came to Zhuo Lie, he stared at Mei Jueye hiding in the corner.
"You first."
"Alright." The high school student didn’t care. However, as soon as Tang Lu inserted the syringe into his arm, the high school student suddenly sneezed, his head dropped and hit Tang Lu’s forehead. At the same time, his arm trembled and the syringe was knocked off.
Tang Lu was a bit dizzy after the hit and lost her grip, the syringe shattered with a pat, and the blue liquid spilled out.
"Huh, you can’t even hold a syringe properly, worthless!" Mei Jueye still acted crazy, blaming Tang Lu, which upset everyone else. Yao Feng even cursed aloud.
Tang Zheng’s gaze grew sharp. He walked over to Tang Lu, picked up a reagent, grabbed Mei Jueye by the neck and jabbed it in.
