Chapter 688 - 32 Night Talk

Chapter 688: Chapter 32 Night Talk

Tang Zheng returned to the camp with a group of people. Seeing the wreckage strewn all about, he knew that those left behind had also been attacked. Dantai described the battle situation in detail. As for the deceased D-cup female employee, she was nothing more than a strange symbol for the Conquerors. Every time the Trojan Horse game involved a beginner, dozens would die. If they paused to grieve every death, they’d never get anything done.

"The boss really does look after me!" The nerdy teenager was relieved to see that of the newcomers who had left with Tang Zheng, only one named Watanabe had survived. Even he, with his slow thinking, finally realized the danger. He then began to swell with pride again considering that the leader must have recognized his potential and planned to train him.

After having witnessed the death of the D-cup employee, the remaining five bank women were not surprised or complained about hearing the death of Tang Bo. Instead, they looked somber, contemplating their future. Chen Hong was a prime example of survival; despite her average skills, she managed to survive, clinging onto Tang Zheng’s proverbial thigh. As such, the women’s gaze towards him was somewhat uneasy and complex.

Conflict finally broke out among the small group of Japanese. It started with fierce arguing, and then escalated into fighting. Everyone turned their anger towards Watanabe, questioning why amongst them all, only he had returned.

In reality, they were using this confrontation as means to vent their inner panic and anxiety. The deaths were just of strangers, something the Japanese didn’t particularly care about. Their only concern was knowing how they could survive this ordeal.

"That’s enough, everyone stop!" Seeing Watanabe knocked down by a punch, bleeding from his nose, and huddling fearfully on the ground, Tang Zheng yelled.

Most men immediately stopped hitting, terrified, they looked at Tang Zheng or avoided his gaze. Except for a young man who kept hitting Watanabe while cursing. He was soon, however, pulled aside by a companion who gave him a stopped warning.

The young man stopped, and bowed slightly to Tang Zheng in apology. He moved to stand quietly to the side.

The newcomers weren’t fools. They understood Tang Zheng’s status and power within the team. If they wanted to survive, they had to listen to him.

"Watanabe did his best, but the monsters were too strong. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the team leader." Tang Zheng pointed at a few local natives who had accompanied him to back Watanabe’s story. "That’s why we need to unite. Only through unity do we stand a chance to live. Going at it alone will only lead to death."

"Leader Tang is absolutely right, we must stick together!" Overwhelmed with gratitude, Watanabe cared not about his bleeding nose, thanked him and silently cheered in his heart. ’Tang Zheng is really a good man. The Chinese are so generous, very impressive!’

Watanabe wasn’t keen on being isolated by his compatriots, so he quickly explained the crisis at the time. Naturally, Tang Zheng, who had defeated the monster, was the main focus. This inadvertently added to Tang Zheng’s prestige and popularity. Choosing to depend on the strong to survive was their basic instinct.

Lu Fan buried his head in the couch, laughing to death. The thirteen Japanese cannon fodders would undoubtedly be milked dry by Tang Zheng for every drop of remaining value.

As for Watanabe’s ’cooperation’, Tang Zheng wasn’t surprised. It was human nature to shift blame and place oneself in a safe position. Besides, he needed to secure a good relationship with Tang Zheng. This made his actions somewhat predictable.

The local resistance who were hunted like abandoned dogs by the mechanical squid managed to hide pretty well. Under their guidance, the Trojan Squad moved around like cunning rabbits, narrowly avoiding several waves of black-clothed special agents. These monsters were not wasted though. Tang Zheng’s timed bombs sent them all to hell.

A full day of ducking and hiding left the newcomers more than exhausted. However, they had to spend their remaining time learning new knowledge and combat skills from Lin Weiguo. It wasn’t compulsory, but to survive, most newbies bit the bullet and endured it.

The young woman with the child couldn’t handle it and began to have a fever. Tang Zheng gave her a pill which successfully lowered it, but her weakened body and spirits weren’t going to be in prime condition any time soon. She had become a burden. The newcomers distanced themselves from her, not wishing to be entangled with any issues.

With more than a day before the Resistance attacked Itala Base, the Conquerors began to gather their strength in preparation for the escape. Naturally, the work of keeping watch at night fell to the locals and the newcomers. It was a good way to make use of waste.

By midnight, in the temporary base, Tang Zheng, after getting enough sleep, decided to speak to Li Xinlan. Over the past few days, she had been cold towards him which had left him slightly depressed. But just as he opened the door, he saw Jing Xiang, dressed in tight clothes, continually pacing anxiously outside the door.

Shocked by the sound of the opening door, Jing Xiang startled and began to tremble, sweat beading her forehead. She looked every part the guilty thief.

"What are you doing here?" Tang Zheng frowned, figuring this woman was certainly in need of something from him.

Jing Xiang kept her head down, her white teeth biting her lip, and didn’t say anything. After about ten seconds of silence, she suddenly turned and ran away.

Tang Zheng casually shrugged and stepped outside. He was about to close the door when he spotted a figure sprinting from the room next door, grabbing him from behind and pushing him toward his room.

Tang Zheng steadied himself, not budging, so as to not face any misunderstanding. He soon felt a woman’s chest firmly press against his back.

"Leader, let’s talk inside the room!" the woman pleaded in a soft voice, deliberately pressing her chest against Tang Zheng’s back to entice him.

"Speak here!" Recognizing the voice to be of the female tour guide, Tang Zheng insisted, surprised at how well-endowed she was despite her appearance.

"Inconvenience," the female tour guide mustered all her strength, yet found herself unable to budge Tang Zheng in the slightest. This made her annoyed. In truth, she did not mind using her body to make a deal with Tang Zheng. He was handsome, powerful, and could protect her - just the right kind of husband material, and it would be a waste to miss out on him. However, she needed to get him in the room first. In this way, even if nothing happened between them, at the very least, she could stroke her own ego and improve her status among the newbies. She might even deter those like Chen Hong and Mei Jueye from bullying her.

"Let go, no need for further discussion." Tang Zheng forcefully unlatched the female tour guide’s wrist and left her behind, heading straight toward Li Xinlan’s room.

"Bitch, she doesn’t even bother to check what a mess she looks before daring to flirt with my man." Chen Hong was hiding behind the door, observing all this through the gap. She had already claimed Tang Zheng as her own and resented any woman who encroached on her territory.

"Xinlan, are you asleep?" Tang Zheng knocked on the door, his demeanor entirely natural.

"Already asleep. If there’s anything, we can discuss it tomorrow!" Li Xinlan’s refusal was obvious, leaving Tang Zheng speechless and swallowing back whatever he was about to say.

"Ungrateful bitch!" Chen Hong and the tour guide muttered under their breath, quite vexed, seeing Li Xinlan as someone pretending to be aloof, acting all virtuous, but secretly longing to be in Tang Zheng’s bed.

"You don’t have time now?" Tang Zheng furrowed his brows. What was wrong with this woman? Ever since she was resurrected, she had been distant and indifferent.

Creak, the door opened, and as soon as Tang Zheng entered, a tactical flashlight turned on suddenly, shining directly into his eyes.

"Why aren’t the lights on?" Tang Zheng lowered his voice, knowing that Yu Manli was sharing the room with her.

"Isn’t it easier for you to move around in the dark?" Li Xinlan’s sarcastic remark left Tang Zheng speechless.

"I didn’t mean anything!" Tang Zheng was helpless. He had no intention to bed the woman. "You’ve been acting strange lately."

"After my resurrection, I understood many things. Tang Zheng, you can’t possibly think that because we’ve slept together twice, you are obliged to take care of me until the end, right? Sorry, I don’t like being tied down. It’s time you also grew up!"

"Sorry, I’ve disturbed you!" Tang Zheng didn’t know what to say. He left the room and slammed the door shut. He felt a bit angry but also somewhat relieved—a strange and conflicting emotional cocktail.

"Why did you let go? Don’t you regret it?" Yu Manli, who was pretending to be asleep, opened her eyes. Although she couldn’t see Li Xinlan’s expression, she knew that the latter was silently choking back her tears.

"He doesn’t love me. His being with me was more because I seduced him. I don’t want to bind him anymore and rob him of a chance to pursue real love." Li Xinlan spoke with a hint of self-mockery as she touched her cheek, "I’m old now. I don’t match him."

"Actually, you’re overthinking it. Wouldn’t it be good to be his lover?" Yu Manli thought to herself that if she weren’t so plain-looking, she would have pursued Tang Zheng a long time ago. This kind-hearted, strong, and brave man was definitely one in a million.

"I’ve already wasted 10,000 points resurrecting me. Do I need to do it a second time?" Li Xinlan shook her head, her voice grew cold, "I love him, so I hope he can stay alive and get out of the Trojan Room. Anyone wanting to take advantage of his kindness will be killed without hesitation!"

Yu Manli shivered inside, realizing that Li Xinlan was warning her. But she could tell that Li Xinlan wasn’t lying. For Tang Zheng, this woman could do anything. And it wasn’t just her, Qin Yan, Bai Guo, Lu Fan, along with Lin Weiguo, they were all willing to die for Tang Zheng. They were true friends in adversity.

"What a pity!" Every time Yu Manli thought about her hesitation a few days ago, she regretted it immensely, wishing to slap herself in the face. If only she could have obtained Tang Zheng’s friendship, even in death, there might be a chance of resurrection.

Returning to the room, Tang Zheng threw himself on the bed in exasperation, only to find that he had landed on top of a woman.

"Who?" Tang Zheng’s irritation flared, ready to vent his anger when arms reached from underneath the covers and wrapped around his neck. Immediately, Pang Meiqin’s lips met his.

"Leader, this is my first time seeing you driven out by a woman!" Pang Meiqin’s breath was sweet as she saw the gloom on Tang Zheng’s face and tightened her embrace with her hands and wrapped her legs around his waist.

"Get up, go back to your room and sleep!" Tang Zheng wasn’t in the mood to fool around with Pang Meiqin. Even a dog that one has had for some time develops feelings, let alone a person who listens and follows orders. Besides, Pang Meiqin’s recent behavior had been considerable, and she was no longer just coasting along.

"I’ll sleep here. If Li Xinlan won’t accompany you, I will!" Pang Meiqin tried to kiss Tang Zheng again, only to be stopped by his hand.

"I’m not interested, I still have to deal with the punishment squad!" Distraction from Pang Meiqin improved Tang Zheng’s mood considerably. After all, they were survivors who had entered at the same time, so their relationship was naturally much closer.
