Chapter 670: Chapter 17: Hacker Girl
Yelling, Yu Wei and the peasant boy leapt from the third floor. Dressed in protective clothing, they didn’t harm. Immersed in the thrill, the peasant boy laughed loudly and pursued, while Yu Wei turned somewhat pale. It was utterly clear from his visage that he was of the studious and frail type, utterly inept with physical activities. Just this short sprint had his chest heaving like a bellows.
Tang Zheng had no intention to take advantage of Tang Lu. He released his grip all of a sudden, turned around with his gun, shooting barrages whilst running.
Dark-suited robot agents followed, jumping down. The very last one mid-air was hit by a thunderball, pushed back a bit by the repelling force but unharmed. However, the next moment another twenty or so crashed precisely upon it, blowing off and reducing its upper body to a fireball.
"So tough!" Seeing the golden metal fragments tinkling down, Tang Zheng frowned. The metallic skeleton of the robot agents was extremely hard; ordinary firearms couldn’t harm them at all. This signaled ordinary firearms were now rendered useless for the newbies unless they could find new weapons.
Once past the narrow passage, the black-clothed special agents finally maximized their speed, fast closing the seven to eight-meter gap on Yu Wei who trailed behind.
Bang! Bang! Yu Wei, sprinting, was unable to dodge the bullets and was hit twice in succession. The defensive power of his tight suit sharply decreased. He could feel the shooting pain from the injured spot and was near-death scared. The pain, however, stimulated his potential, speeding him up a little.
Pang Meiqin squeezed in two shots, then gave up attacking, observing no instantaneous kill on the black-clothed agent. Instead, she commenced a full-on sprint. Ruan Feifei, however, didn’t give in, aiming at the foremost one releasing lightning until it was finally toppled over by her relentless onslaught of electrical storms.
Tang Zheng also targeted one, shooting at it. With no recoil, the Thunderstorm rifle was fairly easy to handle. The lightning balls hit its head right on target, blowing it up. However, the headless black-clothed agent was still moving. It just lost its sense of direction, colliding with the building nearby.
"Watch out ahead! There are robot cops!" Tang Lu suddenly yelled a loud warning. In the open area in front, over twenty cylindrical robot policemen charged out, forming flanking positions. Simultaneously, they extended mechanical arms to suppress them with a bullet barrage.
Tang Zheng exerted a force on his feet, abruptly changing direction, dodging bullets, zigzagging forward while simultaneously summoning two female musketeers. Without them, Tang Zheng could have annihilated these black-clothed agents and robot policemen. However, it would have been far too dangerous for Tang Lu behind him. Considering she didn’t have protective clothing, a single bullet could claim her life.
"Catch the gun!" Tang Zheng tossed the Thunderstorm to Alizeh, took out the Gauss sniper rifle and tossed it to Sophie, then gripped the gravity gun, aiming at a robot cop, pulling the trigger.
There was no bullet trace. All one could see was the brightness on the mouth of the gravity gun. And the cylindrical body of the robot cop opposite was as if being gnawed off by a black hole, an area sank in and it exploded right after.
Without any instruction from Tang Zheng, Sophie, after cocking her gun, promptly locked onto a black-clothed agent through her scope. Her right hand, gloved in fingerless combat gloves, tenderly and deftly pulled the trigger like stroking a lover’s skin.
Bang! The armor-piercing explosive rounds whistled out, hitting the head of the black-clothed agent, instantly blasting away a third of it. Exposed were the split wires and parts, sparking and glistening. However, it could still move.
Sophie shot again, completely killing it. Alizeh at her side was focusing her shots on the cylindrical robot cops. Not a single bullet missed its target. In less than ten seconds, all that was left before them was a pile of junk parts.
"Who are they? Is that a superpower?" Tang Lu was extremely curious. She couldn’t help but hug Tang Zheng’s neck tighter, asking in a loud voice next to his ear.
Ruan Feifei gazed at Tang Zheng’s silhouette, stunned and uncertain. She just realized then the group leader’s real power wasn’t just what she had seen. Mei Jueye was also shocked. Then he felt a strong resentment, believing that given time, he would surely surpass this man.
Yu Wei and the peasant boy didn’t have such thoughts. All they did was gawk at the two beautiful women in baroque-style clothing, enviously wishing for such summons.
"Group leader, have you slept with them? Don’t be sly, you must have. They look so much like the movie stars." The peasant boy yelled at Tang Zheng, drooling, "Group leader, I’ll totally listen to you from now on. Tell me how to have a superpower?"
"Behave well, and you’ll get it," Tang Zheng replied offhandedly, seeing the performance of the two female musketeers and readying to summon a musketeer at the consumption of four golden seeds. This was currently the only skill he could level up.
As for activating the fifth power, it was still a bit early. Since his body wasn’t up to the mark, consequent to the activation of the fifth summons of the Furious Queen, his stamina had to increase at least threefold in order to endure the aftermath. Otherwise, just fatigue alone would be enough to drag him down.
Working together, the two female musketeers reduced the remaining two black-clothed agents into scrap, offering a temporary respite to everyone as they safely boarded the bus.
"Who are you exactly? Why are those men in black chasing me?" Tang Lu’s eyes sparkled as she jumped down from Tang Zheng’s back and sat on a chair, interrogating him, "You’re not fooling me, are you?"
"We are here to protect you. As for why they want to kill you, that’s exactly what I’d like to ask you." Tang Zheng fixed his gaze on Tang Lu, trying to read through her, "I am Tang Zheng. Won’t you introduce yourself?"
"Oh, my surname’s Tang too. My given name is just a single character – Lu!" Realizing Tang Zheng’s name, Tang Lu’s face softened considerably. After all, he looked handsome and pleasing and had saved her from the villains. Such a favor was enough for a fragment of trust.
"Are you sure you’ve never done anything to offend the Mother Empress? You know about the Resistance, right? We’re supposed to take you to their base." Tang Zheng had too little information to work on.
"No, absolutely not!" Tang Lu, in the end, is still a seventeen-or-eighteen-year-old girl who hadn’t learned to hide her emotions. The flash of panic in her eyes was caught by Tang Zheng.
"Girls who lie aren’t very likable!" Tang Zheng said with a smile intended to seem friendly, unaware that the image of him coldly shooting people was already embedded in the girl’s mind.
Tang Lu misinterpreted the smile and took a step back in fear.
"Do you know how much risk we took on to find you? Do you even realize how many of us have lost their lives?" Yu Wei, terrified, couldn’t hold himself back. Barely catching his breath, he roared at Tang Lu, "I’ve had enough. Take us to the Resistance base and end this goddamn mission!"
"I truly have no idea. The Resistance base against the Mother Empress is just a rumour, no one has really seen it, let alone located it. It’s impossible." Tang Lu replied timidly, startled by Yu Wei’s outburst.
"Impossible, no, could the black cube be lying?" Yu Wei sank into chaos, babbling incoherently. There was no help for it; his psychological resilience was too poor.
"No way. Silver Trojan may have set up some obstacles, but it’s not mistaken." Pang Meiqin refuted this assertion. "Tang Lu is concealing something; looks like we might need to employ some private torture."
"I did not lie. Once, out of curiosity, I hacked into the Central Computer. Oh yes, it also has a name, Mother Empress."
When Tang Lu said this, all the survivors turned their gaze towards her. In a world where humans are governed by robots, hacking into the Central Computer was tantamount to attempting to assassinate the highest national leader. Once it was attempted, regardless of success or failure, the death penalty would be imposed immediately.
"I didn’t see it coming; you’re actually a hacker." Tang Zheng looked up and down at Tang Lu in her maid outfit, frowned slightly, and adjusted his collar a bit.
Tang Lu, not being a fool, let out a gasp and covered her neckline, hiding her shallow cleavage.
"Hmpf, my hacking skills are quite strong. Even though I’ve hacked into the Central Computer, I’ve left no traces behind." Tang Lu, not wanting to appear weak, puffed her chest out in pride.
"Then why don’t you find a part-time job related to software development? Or do you enjoy being a maid and getting pushed around?" Ruan Feifei didn’t understand Tang Lu’s behavior. "Or are you just bluffing?"
"All software developers have to register for conscription, be examined and monitored by special agents. I don’t want to live like that, and besides, being a hacker is just a hobby." Tang Lu naturally explained, then grabbed Tang Zheng’s arm and shook it, "What’s with those two women? Do they have superpowers?"
"Yes!" Tang Zheng fell silent. Even this girl didn’t know where the Resistance base was, so how were they supposed to locate it? "Oh right, I bet the Central Computer knows the location of the Resistance base. Can you hack into it again?"
"No way! Do you guys want to get me killed even faster? Last time it was purely curiosity that had me being reckless. I wouldn’t do it again even if you killed me." Tang Lu shook her head emphatically in refusal, then furrowed her brow and muttered to herself, "The fuss this time must be because the backdoor I left in the Central Computer was discovered, and that’s how they found me. This won’t do, I have to get home right away, hack into the Mother Empress, and make some modifications; otherwise, I’ll never live in peace again."
"Weren’t you just saying you wouldn’t hack it again?" Ruan Feifei sighed in exasperation. This girl seemed to change her mind very quickly.
"I wouldn’t dare alone, but I could ask a friend for help. Two of us working together, even if we failed, we could still escape the Mother Empress’s pursuit."
"Do you recognize these four people?" Tang Zheng took out his mobile phone, showing Tang Lu the shots of the other four targets.
"I don’t know, oh wait, this girl is my friend!" Tang Lu was startled, then widened her eyes at Tang Zheng, "She wasn’t attacked by a special agent, was she? Please, I beg you, go save her."
Tang Lu was a kind girl, genuinely concerned for her friend.
"If she’s lucky, my comrades have already reached her!" Tang Zheng had just finished speaking when he heard Pang Meiqin’s shout.
"This isn’t good, there are a lot of robot policemen. Xin Lan and the others have been surrounded." (To be continued. If you like this work, please go to qidian.com to vote it up. Your support is my biggest motivation.)
