Chapter 668 - 15 Mechanical Agents
Chapter 668: Chapter 15 Mechanical Agents
The target girl was not in the room, leaving Tang Zheng very annoyed. He didn’t have the time to wait for her to return. What if he encountered danger in the meantime? Trojan was definitely not good news. Even the radar search had to be manipulated, increasing the difficulty. It was unlikely that Dantai and the rest would have smooth sailing.
"What do we do now? We can’t just wait, right?" complained Yu Wei, tossing things around the room while Mei Jueye racked his brains, finding no solutions.
"Look for anything that indicates the girl’s identity." Tang Zheng walked over to the telephone, pulled open a drawer, and took out an address book. He quickly scanned through it, his gaze settling on a few dirtier names. These were probably frequently touched by the target girl’s fingers, leaving traces of sweat and dust behind.
"Can’t we just randomly pick a number and call it?" The teenager didn’t understand Tang Zheng’s actions, "Is there some kind of trick to this?"
"The people she contacts frequently should be those she’s familiar with — they’re more likely to know where she is!" Tang Zheng grasped the method of using the phone in less than a minute, even with its high-tech nature. He speedily dialed out a number.
Everyone watched nervously as Tang Zheng held the receiver. After two quick rings, the call was answered. They were expecting him to ask questions, but he didn’t utter a word.
"Hello, Xiaolu." A clear female voice came from the other end of the line. Not waiting for a response, the voice sounded confused, "Xiaolu? Are you playing some kind of prank?"
Tang Zheng immediately hung up and dialed another number smudged with fingerprints. As soon as the call was connected, he feigned anger and confronted the receiver.
"I’m Xiaolu’s father. Do you know where she has gone?"
The young man in the room was shocked and speechless at Tang Zheng’s words. He thought that it would be unbelievable if the person on the other end of the phone line told him. He figured if you’re asking for someone’s help, at least be polite, right?
"Unc... Uncle, what happened to Xiaolu?" Hearing Tang Zheng’s angry voice, the girl on the other end of the line became nervous. She initially thought that Xiaolu had done something wrong, rather than questioning the authenticity of Tang Zheng’s identity.
"Something happened at home. Her phone is off! Can you tell me where she might be?" Tang Zheng was also uneasy as there were too many variables. The other party might indeed not know where Xiaolu was, or, after hanging up, might call Xiaolu to ask about the situation. This would reduce the time he had to act because he had not been in contact with Xiaolu and couldn’t predict her reaction.
As for the chance that the girl on the phone would withhold the information, it was slim. Her voice indicated that she was young. Plus, Tang Zheng exaggerated the severity of the issue. Most girls wouldn’t be capable of bearing such pressure and risks and would instinctively choose to compromise and hide behind mature adults.
As expected, after Tang Zheng questioned her, the girl became flustered and her mind seemed to go blank. She confessed Xiaolu’s location.
"She should be working at the Rose Bar at this time!"
"Thank you. If you contact her, tell her to rush home!" Tang Zheng hung up, immediately took out the radar, switched on the map, and started looking for the location of the Rose Bar.
"Quickly! Let’s save time; the last person out, close the door." Tang Zheng ran into the hallway, heading towards the underground parking garage.
"What do we do now?" The young man asked this useless question again, which served no purpose other than distracting Tang Zheng from his thoughts, so he ignored him.
"Xin Lan, did you hear me? I’m going to find our target girl. You all stay put. Meiqin, start the floating bus!" Tang Zheng had a lot of things to explain. "Set up some defenses to resist the robot police officers. Then, find some clothes and vehicles for disguising yourselves, and secure our escape route!"
"Manli, Lu Fan, if anyone disobeys orders, break their limbs and leave them!" Tang Zheng kept the troublemakers close to keep them in check.
"Don’t worry, we will complete the task!" Lu Fan roared, then began calling roll and leading a few women to set up defenses at their temporary base.
By the time Tang Zheng and his group of five rushed onto the bus, Pang Meiqin immediately stepped on the accelerator, and according to the indicated route on the map, drove into the air.
The cluster of tall buildings on the sixth layer was about 800 meters above the ground. But due to the use of future technology and a different atmospheric environment, the group didn’t feel breathless. The roads between the tall buildings, constructed with a kind of transparent material, were numerous and in all directions. There was no need to worry about traffic congestion or falling to the ground. However, for the survivors who had stepped into the future city for the first time, it was still disconcerting, especially looking down at the ant-like vehicles below. It was quite heart-pounding.
"Should we run the red light?" Pang Meiqin noticed that there were no traffic police in the city, but the drivers strictly obeyed the traffic rules. Even if there was no oncoming traffic, they would not cross a red light. After all, the law was strict, and the slightest mistake could lead to several months in jail.
"You don’t seriously think we’re law-abiding citizens, do you? This bus has probably already been reported to the police station." Tang Zheng, who was constantly checking the map, took a quick glance at the four people behind him and felt slightly disappointed. Aside from Ruan Feifei and Mei Jueye, who were memorizing the target’s appearance and surrounding information, Yu Wei and the teenager were just staring out the window in curiosity and anxiety. If no one reminded them, they wouldn’t know what they should be doing.
About six minutes later, the floating bus swerved and pulled up outside the Rose Bar. Tang Zheng jumped off and dashed toward the main entrance.
It was getting dark, and all sorts of sports cars filled the nearby parking lot. Young men and women, walking toward the bar amid their raucous chatter, were taken aback at the sudden appearance of a bus racing up to the entrance. They could not help cursing aloud; the security cameras here had already been removed, so they were not afraid of being arrested by robot police for disturbing public order.
"Hey, you there, didn’t you hear me? Apologize now!" A man with a woman in his arm saw Tang Zheng ignore him and walk straight past. Angry, he quickened his pace and reached out to grab Tang Zheng’s shoulder.
At the sound of hurried footsteps behind him, Tang Zheng suddenly stopped, turned around, and punched the man in the jaw. The unlucky man felt his head spinning from the blow and staggered a few steps, eventually falling to the ground.
Excitement plastered on his face, the teenager stepped over the man and gave him a swift kick on his shoulder for good measure. Not quite satisfied, he spat a mouthful of thick phlegm onto the unlucky guy. He almost wanted to grope the scantily clad woman, but she was far out of reach.
"Stop! Move your vehicle immediately!" Four gatekeeping security guards, wielding their police batons and standing in front of the bar entrance, started to scold Tang Zheng for blocking the way. Tang Zheng, however, didn’t wait for them to finish, putting all his energy into sprinting toward the front, before swinging his fists at the two boldest guards and landing a blow in their guts.
The security guard’s muscles seized, causing him to retch, and he fell clutching his belly. Meanwhile, the other two guards swung their batons at Tang Zheng’s head.
Tang Zheng kicked the one on the left squarely in the chest, sending him flying, and simultaneously grabbed the right guard’s wrist, twisting it and making him let go of his baton. He then grabbed the guard’s hair with his right hand, using his momentum to slam his head against the wall.
"No!" The guard shrieked as the wall loomed closer, but the next moment, they stopped abruptly.
"Lead me to Xiaolu!" Tang Zheng let go of the man’s hair, grabbed him by the collar and pushed him into the bar. He didn’t ask whether Xiaolu was working there, questions like that were a waste of time.
"Okay, okay." The security guard, having witnessed Tang Zheng’s takedown of four people in one fell swoop, didn’t dare resist. All he cared about was his own survival.
"Follow quickly!" The excited teenager started playing the role of Tang’s lackey, scolding everyone else, only to be scowled at by Ruan Feifei and Mei Jueye, which made him recoil and soften his approach.
Meanwhile, a meter-wide black sphere suddenly appeared in the middle of the parking lot, surrounded by erratic electric arcs making crackling sounds. Even the surrounding space seemed to warp slightly. Three seconds later, the sphere disappeared, and six men in black suits appeared. These hulking figures, with their muscles bulging, looked like ancient Roman gladiators, oozing an intimidating aura of violence.
These were the Queen’s Mechanical Agents, teleported in to kill the young girl, Xiaolu!
"Bastard, didn’t you see my leg?" The man Tang Zheng had punched was sitting on the ground when he saw a man step over him. Pissed off, he immediately began to berate him.
The Mechanical Agent that stepped over him didn’t stop, making the unlucky guy even angrier. However, his face quickly morphed into horrified disbelief, and he frantically scrambled to get away.
"Obstruction of the Mechanical Agents in execution of public duties. Termination!" An Agent emotionlessly announced behind him, pulled out his handgun from his holster, aimed, and shot the man’s head clean off.
The woman accompanying the unlucky man screamed and ran away in terror. Three security guards who had just managed to stand up, at first prepared to stop the Agents, were quickly overtaken by fear and ducked out of the way.
"You are hereby drafted. Lead us to this girl now!" A Mechanical Agent showed their identification to the guards, then flashed a picture of Xiaolu.
"This way!" The three security guards immediately led the way into the bar, terrified of what would happen if they refused. The law stated that hindering the Mechanical Agents or failing to assist them would result in execution. After all, these Agents were part of the Queen’s personal guard, possessing almost infinite authority.
As a university student, Tang Lu hailed from a wealthy family. Even though she had an independent lifestyle, she’d still work as a hostess in the bar every time she didn’t have classes. But she ran into some trouble today; several middle-aged men had cornered her in a room and demanded she drink with them.
With one glance, Tang Lu knew the other hostesses in the room were not going to help. They had probably even played a part in setting this up. Tang Lu knew those women were jealous that she earned more tips than them and were probably eager to teach her a lesson for a while now.
"I can only fight!" Tang Lu picked up a wine bottle and laughed, "I’ll drink, but only with this gentleman. I just prefer mature men."
