Chapter 644: Chapter 39: Confronting the Demon Monkey
"No sound of combat?" Dantai was not as optimistic as Lu Fan, with his eyes penetrating the main entrance and staring hard at the depths of the temple, "Chen Hong, fly in and check."
"Why is it always me?" Chen Hong was unhappy, and looked at Tang Zheng resentfully, "Can’t we all rush in together?"
"Get going, don’t waste time, who will be responsible if the Indian team escapes?" Lu Fan brandished a kitchen knife, pretending to stab Chen Hong’s butt, scaring her to immediately flutter her wings and fly into the sky.
"It seems that the Indian Asan has failed, but I’m afraid they’re not all dead and are hiding nearby." Dantai turned around to scrutinize the surroundings, "It’s best not to fight here, as Asan is definitely familiar with this place, so try to pick a new location."
Tang Zheng nodded and carefully observed the crystal coffin placed on the back of his mount. It seemed that killing the Monkey King required the tear of the Daught Country’s queen. Even though this woman was dead and breathed no more, he could still discern this.
Just as Tang Zheng was at a loss, a ray of golden light suddenly shot out from the temple and hit Chen Hong, who was scouting in the sky above the temple. It directly knocked her down. Although she made several adjustments before hitting the ground, her wing was broken and she could not fly. She managed to avoid dying from the fall.
"You wait here, be careful." Tang Zheng didn’t want to have a physical collision with Sun Wukong and then have the spoils taken by Indian Asan. However, since Chen Hong had gone scouting on his order, he couldn’t just do nothing. He rushed into the temple.
Chen Hong was lying on the ground, motionless, with a pool of fresh blood beneath her. Her legs and an arm were twisted oddly, obviously broken, and her chest was caved in. She coughed and spewed out mouthfuls of bloody froth.
Seeing Tang Zheng coming in, Chen Hong wanted to speak, but her lips failed to make a sound even after moving a few times.
"A group of insignificant juniors, aren’t you dead yet?" Sun Monkey retrieved his Ruyi Golden Cudgel that had injured Chen Hong, leading a white horse out from the Great Hall, and greeted Tang Zheng cheerfully upon seeing him.
"Benefactor, I am from the Eastern Tang Dynasty and want to go to the West to pay my respects to Buddha and seek true scriptures. Could you offer me a bowl of vegetarian food?"
"I don’t have vegetarian food, but I do have the body of the queen of Daught Country." Tang Zheng stared at Tang Monk’s eyes and said, "If you can guide her spirit and let her soul return to heaven, I can give you some gold."
"Amitabha, as a monk, I should be compassionate. I should do this!" Tang Monk pronounced the Buddha’s name but no matter how hard he tried, his hands could not come together in prayer.
"Didn’t you say that bringing the queen of Xiliang could exchange for the scriptures?" Tang Zheng frowned, Tang Monk’s tone was not fake, and he showed no interest in the Queen of Xiliang.
"Did I? You must have heard wrong!" Tang Monk pronounced the Buddha’s name again and remained silent.
"Enough talk, let’s just send you all to reincarnation!" Sun Monkey swung his arm and the Ruyi Golden Cudgel slipped out of his hand and shot towards Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng was already prepared for Sun Monkey’s attack. He fired his two moon blades at the Ruyi Golden Cudgel, knocking it off course. Unfortunately, Sun Monkey’s throwing force was so great that the Ruyi Golden Cudgel still grazed Tang Zheng’s forehead and embedded itself in the big blue stone floor several meters away, leaving a deep trench. If it had hit him directly, he would have been killed instantly.
"I brought the Banana Fan, exchange it for your scriptures." Tang Zheng had an idea to deceive Sun Monkey. He didn’t want to start a fight now, at least he had to deal with the remaining Indian team first.
"Impossible, if you’ve been to Flame Mountain, there’s no way you could have come out alive." Sun Monkey revealed its true intention and it didn’t matter anymore. "Did you kill my apprentice, Sha? I’ll get revenge for him."
Sun Monkey waved his hand and his sentient Ruyi Golden Cudgel flew out of the pit, aiming at Tang Zheng. Without using magic, only brute force, the Monkey Demon could crush any conqueror.
Lu Fan, who had been observing the temple from the wall, saw the Monkey Demon start to kill, immediately sacrificed his Wisdom Sword. The flying sword turned into a stream of light, knocked the Ruyi Golden Cudgel off course, and fought with it, while also taking out the Pepper Grinder and firing at Sun Monkey.
Tang Zheng knew he couldn’t escape and launched a furious attack. The warlord appeared, wielding the warhammer and attacking the Monkey Demon. In his hand, he held the Qiankun Bead, pouring life energy into it.
As red mist flowed in, Sun Monkey’s eyes flared with red light. He transformed into a wisp of red smoke and floated out. Then, taking out a hair and turning it into a golden cudgel, he attacked the fake Monkey.
"Fake Monkey, time to die!" Seeing his enemy, the real Sun Monkey was completely enraged.
"Humph, Bi Mawen, today I will completely devour your primordial spirit!" The fake Monkey inhaled deeply, his chest swelling up like a hydrogen balloon, visibly drawing thick air into his mouth and swallowing it into his stomach.
The fake monkey’s belly bulged and deflated continuously, a clear sign that Sun Wukong was struggling inside.
"Hmph, overestimating one’s own abilities." The fake monkey launched itself like a meteor, grabbed the Ruyi Golden Cudgel, and knocked the Wisdom Sword away with one swift move.
Others on the wall also tried to shoot at the fake monkey. Unfortunately, their bullets were as pointless as mosquito bites to it. Xu Biyun’s puppet rose from the ground and charged at the fake monkey, only to have its head burst open with one swing of the cudgel. Two more blows from the cudgel and the puppet shattered entirely.
Xu Liangmao, transformed into a beastman, had just taken two steps forward when he witnessed the scene. He instinctively stopped in his tracks. A blow from the golden cudgel would undoubtedly kill him. The others also felt a sense of powerlessness. This creature was several times more formidable than the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord; at least the Demon Lord couldn’t devour the primordial spirit of Sun Monkey in one bite.
"Everybody, hold off the fake monkey with me while Biyun, use your puppet to move Tang Monk to the Queen of Xiliang." Tang Zheng, with twin blades in hand, fearlessly charged at the fake monkey. Dantai and Lu Fan didn’t hesitate and leaped off the wall to join in. Pang Meiqin gritted her teeth—there was no turning back now.
"The queen of the Daught Country is called the Queen of Xiliang?" Xu Biyun muttered, not daring to delay. She jumped on a velociraptor, supported the crystal coffin, and rushed toward Tang Monk.
Seeing the woman inside the crystal coffin, Tang Monk’s eyes lit up. He seemed to remember something and started to struggle, trying to direct the white horse towards Xu Biyun.
Tang Zheng took out the golden hoop given by the Bodhisattva, but he didn’t get a chance to place it on the fake monkey. Obviously, the Indian team had also failed, otherwise, they wouldn’t have been beaten into fleeing.
The Wisdom Sword of Lu Fan struck the fake monkey, causing a loud crash as metal met hard flesh. However, the creature was invulnerable. Lu Fan’s Sand Spear array shot up from the ground to no avail; upon hitting the fake monkey, they crumbled into sand.
Dantai’s mental impact was still ineffective, to his extreme frustration. He unsheathed the Damascus curved knife for a hard slash, but he was struck by the cudgel and sent flying while he spat out blood.
Xu Liangmao, overcoming his fear, rushed forward and successfully struck the chest of the fake monkey. However, it felt as if he were hitting the floor, the impact causing him dramatically significant pain.
The fake monkey spun skillfully, directing the golden cudgel towards Xu Liangmao’s head. He retreated and avoided the blow, but the gust generated by the cudgel swept his hair back.
With a snort, the fake monkey exerted force on his wrist and swung the golden cudgel at Xu Liangmao, directly smashing his chest. He spat out blood as he was propelled backward.
Ai Yixin, gripping a dagger, charged at the fake monkey.
"Are you crazy?" Tu Jinxin yelled from atop the wall. He might be at ease if they hung back together but now that he’s the only one left, he felt somewhat apprehensive. Seeing Dantai and Xu Liangmao getting overwhelmed by the fake monkey, he decided he won’t interfere. Even a small misstep could be fatal.
"Should we run away? Even Chen Hong was injured, there is enough excuse for me not to fight. But if I show cowardice, it will result in trouble, driven out of the team, it’s better to leave early than to suffer humiliation later." Tu Jinxin had just jumped down from the wall, worst off he was indecisive and hesitated, "From the looks of it we cannot win, it’s better to run away while they’re holding down the fake monkey. Otherwise, there will be hell to pay later."
"But what if they win? If I stubbornly cling on and plead a few times, I might be allowed to stay." Tu Jinxin clutched his hair, agonized. The option to join the fight was missing among various thoughts, "Never mind, even if we win, I don’t have a chance to get any spoils of war."
Once he made up his mind, Tu Jinxin firmly carried it out. As a swimming champion, he had strong willpower. But after just running a few meters, he abruptly fell to the ground, unable to move his body.
"What’s going on? An ambush?" Feeling the loss of control over his body, Tu Jinxin turned ghastly pale out of fear. He was not a fool; he immediately guessed that he might have been attacked; if Tang Zheng could try to seize an advantage, so could the Indian team.
"A cowardly piece of trash, become my puppet."
A hoarse voice suddenly rang in his ear, nearly driving Tu Jinxin mad with fear. He tried to scream for help, but he couldn’t make a sound, and his body did not respond to his commands as if he had become someone else’s marionette. After getting up from the ground, he walked towards the wall again.
At first, Tu Jinxin was still capable of resisting, making his steps slow and rigid. But after a dozen steps, the enemy’s control over him became quite adept.
"It’s over, I’m definitely doomed now. How great it would have been if I had gone to fight instead of running away. The enemy wouldn’t have had a chance to attack me!" Scared out of his wits, Tu Jinxin was so regretful that he vomited blood.
"What use is it to control this kind of garbage newbie? Even if he adds to the chaos, it won’t be enough to do serious damage." An Indian man, wrapped head to toe in bandages, looked reluctant. He was very weak and had no extra life energy to exert his ability, but he dared not to contradict the team captain.
"Of course, it’s useful. Let your bugs attach these remote control bombs to the puppet, and let’s have a world-shaking explosion later. I don’t think they’ll be able to survive!" The Indian team captain sat in a corner, observing the battle through the mechanical surveillance spiders hidden in the corners of the temple.(To be continued...
