Chapter 530: Chapter 8 Night at the Museum
The female newcomers weren’t the kind to brazenly beg for favors in public, they couldn’t do that. Their primary plan was to leave themselves a fallback option in case they were rejected. They wouldn’t even have the chance to turn to someone else otherwise. As for how to woo the men behind the scenes, they would each rely on their own methods.
Except for the two female university students who were pretty new, the rest were no pushovers. After spending a day together, they had a rough understanding of everyone’s character. Therefore, they naturally chose Tang Zheng first, who was not only the group leader with formidable strength but also had a particular soft spot, which was their exploitable weakness.
"Here, have a sip, it will remove the curse." Tang Zheng couldn’t ignore Aima, the woman had become pale from vomiting. Besides, he felt helping her might gain an extra reward. Otherwise, wouldn’t Aima have to wait for death without the potion?
Tang Zheng was correct, any actions that contributed to the progress of the mission would be awarded points. That was why he always scored the highest, because he exerted the most effort.
"If Aima dies, the survivors will also die." Qin Yan picked up a note that had been dropped by the exploding monster and handed it to Tang Zheng after a quick glance. This kind of mission restriction was the most troublesome, as Aima was too weak.
"We can’t stay in this room. Let’s find another place to stay." Pang Meiqin was frustrated. If only she had gone to buy food a bit earlier, she might have avoided the explosion.
The bus once again became everyone’s home. After a hearty meal, midnight arrived. Before heading to the museum, Tang Zheng hijacked two more backup buses to ensure their safety and parked them at the predetermined location.
"Dantai, Qin Yan, Lin Wei, Zhao Guangji, peddler, reporter, you all come with me. What’s with the frowns? This is a good chance to gain experience. If you don’t want to go, fine, Chen Jia Rong, replace Zhao Guangji." The four conquerors were more than enough to handle this. Tang Zheng bringing three newcomers was merely so that they could be used as bait at critical moments.
"No no, I’ll go." Zhao Guangji didn’t dare hesitate. If he refused this time, he would surely be targeted and ostracized by the group leader in the future.
"If you want to survive, you have to rely on your own efforts, at best we can just make sure you don’t die before you get familiar with the game." Tang Zheng showed his wristwatch, "Synchronize, 11 o’clock exactly."
"I want to go too." The second generation rich cap-wearing man didn’t want to miss out on this fun and Tang Zheng naturally wouldn’t refuse him. After distributing five psychic magazines to each person, they started the action three minutes later.
Tang Zheng chose to attack from the front, with Qin Yan playing a woman who had been tricked out of all her money in a foreign country. The security guards were not good people, having some intentions towards an attractive eastern beauty. Upon hearing her request to stay overnight, they did not suspect anything and opened the door directly.
The four muscular men obviously didn’t think Qin Yan was dangerous. After shutting the door, they tried to make a move on her. Unfortunately, one unlucky guy’s forearm was twisted by her while she gave him a blow to his lower abdomen which made him vomit and fall down. The other three men were startled and before they could react, they were quickly knocked down by her in just a few breaths.
The other security guards were patrolling other exhibit halls and weren’t alerted by the commotion here. Qin Yan opened the door and gave a safe hand signal. Tang Zheng and the others quickly rushed out from their hiding places and caught up.
Aima held a grudge against the security guard who had captured her and kicked the fainted guy. The newcomers were excited and drooled at the sight of the displayed antiques.
"If I could take one of these home, I wouldn’t need to worry about food or drink for the rest of my life." Zhao Guangji swallowed a mouthful of saliva, his eyes darting around, the reporter also felt the same way.
"Aima, you quickly go and get the crown." Tang Zheng noticed that the walkie-talkies on the guards were all off, so he was relieved. Everyone tried to make as little noise as possible and ran towards the Egyptian exhibition hall.
"There it is!" Aima stood in front of a glass display case, her eyes were hazy. The crown Tang Zheng had seen yesterday, made of pure gold and ruby, was lying quietly inside of it.
Tang Zheng was just about to disable the alarm when he heard an alarming beep. Turning back, he found Zhao Guangji stuffing a piece of golden jewelry filled with Egyptian mannerism into his pocket.
"What are you doing?" The cap-wearing man was enraged and was about to rush over and beat him up.
The shouts and hurried footsteps of the security guards could immediately be heard. But the most troubling thing was that the whole exhibition hall started to shake violently like an earthquake. The mummies were also trembling, dropping dust particles from their bodies as if they were about to come to life.
"We’re running out of time." Lin Wei smashed the display case with a punch and was about to grab the crown. However, the moment the glass display case shattered, more than a dozen ghosts appeared out of thin air, scattering in all directions. One of them held the crown in its hand.
The sudden change caught everyone off guard. Tang Zheng’s Demon Slaying Holy Flame fired in time. His deer bullets wrapped in golden flames blew up the ghosts, the crown fell but was caught mid-air by another ghost that continued fleeing.
Dantai’s psychic bullets soon shoot at the ghosts. But the bullets were too weak, only ripping parts of their bodies. Fortunately, Qin Yan’s Apocalypse Plunderer started shooting. There was no muzzle flame, only a green circular magic array one foot from the muzzle. As the bullet passed through, it was imbued with a vibrant green color.
The Predator’s gunfire immediately shattered five ghosts. The crown fell but changed hands again and again while falling. Just when it seemed about to be secured, the mummies lying in the colored stone coffins suddenly came alive, howling furiously at the sky. The entire exhibition hall was filled with their rage and indignation. They wanted to kill any human who dared to blaspheme and steal the Pharaoh’s crown.
The newcomers were still stunned, and the unanimous roar of the mummies almost made them wet their pants. Watching those skin-wrapped-bones monsters run, their natural reaction was to flee.
A dried corpse lying in the exhibit glass case got up, its shattered eyeballs spinning around, and then, sprung up like a spring-loaded device, leaping a distance of four meters to attack Tang Zheng.
"Protect Aima!" Boom! The golden deer projectile hit it and knocked it over. With his right hand, Tang Zheng loaded the Demon Slaying Holy Flame, and with his left hand, he pulled out a machine gun, chasing and pressuring it with his gunfire.
The ghosts were screaming continuously after being hit, constantly shattering. Lin Weiguo and Qin Yan guarded the rear, suppressing those mummies with powerful firepower. Even if they had intense jumping power, they were shot and repelled in mid-air to keep them away.
"Bastard," Dantai found out he was the least useful one, and it made him so pissed. Unfortunately, his weapons didn’t pack much punch, so he had no choice but to chase after the ghosts.
"Chase them quickly." Tang Zheng didn’t dare let these creatures escape. The entire museum had over a hundred showrooms, with nearly ten million collections. If they just hid in any nook and cranny, he wouldn’t be able to find them. Not to mention, the alarm had already gone off and the police could come at any moment.
Although the hovering ghosts were very fast, they couldn’t escape the full-speed sprint of Tang Zheng. However, the stalemate was broken in a matter of moments. After charging into the Greek and Roman Museum, a 300-strong Roman phalanx was waiting at the far end. They held spears, posing in a throwing stance. As they saw Tang Zheng, the legion commander issued an attack order.
With a loud yell of ’throw,’ a torrent of javelins forming a steel rainforest, swooped down following a parabolic trajectory.
Tang Zheng rolled to the right, but still couldn’t dodge in time. He could only swing his arm to deflect the javelins. To avoid losing the ghosts, he had to give up resisting some non-lethal attacks, so the javelins stuck to his body. Although they couldn’t penetrate the protective clothing, the piercing pain hit him.
Dantai was not faring any better, being in a sorry and awkward state.
After three rounds of javelin throwing, Roman soldiers drew their short swords and began a charge.
Tang Zheng put away his machine gun and quickly took out several spiritual power bombs and threw them. The explosion swept across, limbs scattered, and the Roman army was on the verge of collapsing.
Lin Weiguo and Qin Yan were protecting Aima, fighting and retreating. There were too many mummies; eliminating all of them would take some time. What’s even more troublesome is that two Sphinxes had sprung out, their defense power even stronger.
Zhao Guangji and the peddler ran away, both were racing towards the main entrance, desperate to leave this dreadful place. The man in the baseball cap, and the reporter didn’t dare to leave, besides, it was obviously safer to be with Lin Weiguo.
A group of prehistoric animal skeletons also came to life, running wildly around, as a few tyrannosaurus skeletons were chasing after them. With one large bite, their prey was ground into powder and bits of bone scattered everywhere.
Lin Weiguo’s group of five quickly dodged, but the mummy corpses didn’t have time and were scattered by the skeletal beasts. Some were even trampled into pieces.
"Go find Tang Zheng." Qin Yan had just finished saying when she heard Tang Zheng’s instructions over the earpiece, "Take Aima out. I’ll take care of the crown."
After avoiding the stone-throwing and arrow-shooting of several primitive people, he had fallen quite a distance from tracking the ghosts. Plus, a Roman cavalry was charging after him, the sound of galloping hooves shook the air.
"So stupid." Tang Zheng cursed under his breath and summoned his velociraptor mount. Grabbing the reins and hopping on, he began to flog it energetically.
Dantai was dumbstruck and soon a bitter smile crept to his lips. The equipment of others sure left his in the dust by a long shot. But he didn’t lose heart. Instead, he seized an opportunity to claim a horse. Thump! The headless Roman cavalryman fell to the ground. Dantai successfully got himself a horse.
Tang Zheng shattered two more ghosts. Six naked little cherubs floated in the air, each holding a small bow, shooting at him.
One-foot long arrows whooshed out, piercing his body. The irritating arrows of these little devils didn’t have lethal power, but they were too annoying. The effect of being hit was feeling irked and agitated, directly affecting the cerebral cortex.
Tang Zheng was furious. He turned his muzzle and blasted one of them. The stone parts scattered everywhere, and the rest of them were greatly shocked and scattered in all directions.
As Tang Zheng passed a self-portrait of a man cutting off his ear, he saw the man in the oil painting crawl out and argue with a young girl wearing a pearl earring next to him. A group of revolutionaries guiding people to freedom also brandished their front-loaded guns and whistled past him. The woman revealing her chest and raising a flag was particularly eye-catching, but Tang Zheng was not in the mood to appreciate it, because they were all pointing their muzzles at him.
An array of gunfire sounded like popping beans, and Tang Zheng was attacked. His vision was gradually obscured by the dispersed white smoke, and he was slowly losing sight of the ghosts.
The Roman cavalry relentlessly pursued him, but there weren’t many of them - Tang Zheng shot each one of them down. Lin Weiguo and Qin Yan also encountered trouble during their retreat. A group of Spartan soldiers wielding spears and shields intercepted them and launched a desperate charge.
Zhao Guangji and the peddler had already reached the hall, escape was almost within reach, then suddenly everything changed. (To be continued. If you enjoy this novel, please come to qidian.com to vote and recommend. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
