Chapter 463: Chapter 21 - Internal Troubles and External Threats

The passionate, inflaming speech of the major simply manipulated dumb new recruits who lacked brain cells. After decades-long war with the beastmen, those who survived were definitely not fools. Everyone understood that being a frontline scout was a job of life and death.

The unlucky guys at the conscription place were all silent because they had no choice. With supplies growing increasingly scarce, leaving the base to make a living would only present two dire options: starvation or becoming dinner for the beastmen. Survive by one’s own strength? That was a pipe dream.

There were no cheers or applause. The new recruits were expressing their resentment with this silent protest. The major turned pale, took a deep breath to swallow his impulse to scold them. There was no need. After all, they were not far from death.

The next three minutes were suffocating. When twenty-odd military trucks parked at the conscription place, and five teams of fully armed soldiers came to escort the new recruits, they began to feel real fear and helplessness.

"I want to say goodbye to my family." A young man with tears in his eyes pleaded the major. But, the major just ignored him.

"Quiet, line up and get on the truck, there will be a holiday in a week. You can come home then. Provided you are alive till that time." The major waved his arm, meanwhile thinking, "Of course, on the premise that you can live until then."

"Is this joining the army or becoming a prisoner?" Gao Wei was very dissatisfied. The soldiers’ attitude was extremely antagonistic; they even used gun butts to push the new recruits.

"Should we notify Qin Yan and others?" Dantai found out that he and Tang Zheng chose the same truck, which was the fifth from the end of the fleet, generally a safer position.

"Do you see a chance?" Tang Zheng scanned his surroundings, noticing that the safeties of all the chainsaw guns held by the soldiers were off, their index fingers were even on the triggers. They were watching them like hawks, as if they were escorting prisoners; on a base with hundreds of thousands of soldiers, Tang Zheng wouldn’t be idiotic enough to start a riot.

"You will be sent to Tuokey Town for two days of military training, so, in order to survive longer, try hard." The major continued his nonsense, and as he passed by the busty Vietnamese girl, he tried to pat her shoulder, but his attempt was evaded.

"Don’t worry, women and children will not go to the battlefield, you will only do some logistics work in Tuokey Town..." The Major chuckled twice, and then lowered his voice, "You can also choose to work as a nurse in the hospital, those jobs are relatively more relaxed, however, you would need a letter of introduction from me..."

Ignoring the major’s underlying intentions, the E-cup busty girl didn’t even glance at him. Instead, she drew back into the crowd, got on the truck with her fellow countrymen.

The fleet set off, ten minutes later, just as it left the base, it met a fleet transporting supplies. Forty-six women from the Trojan Room were squeezed in one of the trucks. Lu Fan and Pang Meiqin, their faces sullen, were in a fluster about how to send a message to Tang Zheng.

Li Muqing was still quiet, holding her knees without saying a word. Zhang Ying was talking to Qin Yan, asking for more information about the Trojan Horse Game. Next to her were a dozen young girls; they didn’t want to die and were trying to learn as much as possible. However, with the jolting of the journey, they slowly couldn’t bear it any longer and began to intermittently close their eyes to rest.

The fleet didn’t stop for the night. After fourteen hours, they reached Tuokey Town. The officers exchanged goods, soldiers headed to the tavern on the town for a meal, and also for the company of women to vent their accumulated stress from the past few days.

Tuokey was a small town with a style similar to Europe. At the centre of the square was a statue fountain of a naked female, a small church was located at the northeast corner. Occasionally, women with children would go in and out, praying for the safety of their families.

Decades ago, the town had been spared from the ravages of war due to its distance from the battlefield. But now, with the constant retreat of humans and the advancement of the frontline beastmen, it had become a focal point for both sides.

The army had taken over the town a month ago and arranged for residents to evacuate. Soldiers and trucks transporting supplies seen everywhere symbolised the arrival of the war.

The new recruits, like sardines, were stuffed into train carriages where seventy could barely fit but a hundred were forced in anyway. With their bodies curled up and even stretching their arms impossible, some guys fell to the ground as soon as they jumped off the truck, their legs cramping. And yet they still didn’t have the freedom to move about. Before they could even catch their breath, they were chased off to unload the supplies.

"Uncle?" With her sharp eyes, Lu Fan spotted Tang Zheng among the crowd, jumped up from the ground, and started waving her arms. She had run only a few steps when she was stopped by an on-duty soldier.

"Stay where you are." The soldier’s face was expressionless. He’d already been given his orders, there was no need to be nice to these civilians.

The group of more than six hundred women, collecting near the hot spring at the town square, attracted a lot of attention. Some soldiers, after considering the salary left in their pockets, went over to negotiate, hoping to engage in intimate dealings.

Qin Yan’s stunning appearance had already attracted more than a dozen harassments from those soldiers who were off-duty and wanted to be the first one to pull her.

"Why can they leave?" Lu Fan pouted, pointing at the women who had left with the soldiers, her face full of anger, she really wanted to punch this guy.

"Because they have a soldier’s guarantee." The soldier who stopped Lu Fan puffed up his chest. It was only during the war that civilians didn’t dare to belittle him. Otherwise, they’d be served with his gunstock.

Tang Zheng held a finger to his lips, making a silencing gesture, and then pointed at the sun in the sky. Lu Fan immediately understood his meaning, her eyes lighting up as she nodded and sat back down on the ground.

By the time the new recruits had moved all the supplies into the storage room, it was already evening. However, this time, they finally got to eat a decent dinner, warm black bread coupled with vegetable soup. Even though it was simple, it still made the new recruits savor every spoonful.

The new recruits didn’t know, but this was to appease their emotions. Otherwise, who would voluntarily want to be a scout.

At one in the morning, Tang Zheng slipped out of the temporary barracks and ran towards the church square. As a defense line had been set up ten kilometers in front of the small town, the town itself had no patrols and was very quiet.

"Uncle, this way." Lu Fan stuck her head out of a small alley and called him quietly. This was where she had rested at noon.

"Are you hungry?" Tang Zheng saw Qin Yan and Pang Meiqin also there and nodded, asking, "Have you been found out?"

"No, Bi Yun and Liu Yue helped cover for us." Qin Yan pulled out two pieces of bread from her clothes and gave them to Tang Zheng, "Eat, I saved these for you. I work at the dining hall, so I can get some on the way."

"I’m not hungry." Tang Zheng refused and then laughed, "I didn’t realize you had the talent to be a thief."

"Don’t mention it, I’ve been bothered by this all night." Qin Yan was also quite annoyed. She had sunk to such a level. It was so embarrassing.

"What’s the big deal? You’re not the only one taking. Look at our meals, just a piece of black bread and cabbage soup. Is this pig feed? And the new recruits heading to the frontline tomorrow, who think a meal of vegetable soup is good – do you guys know what’s the dinner and supper of the major in charge of supplies? Two roast turkeys and whiskey. Oh, and his Doberman Pinscher ate half of it too." Pang Meiqin, who was assigned the task of meal delivery, was very familiar with these things.

"With such a management system and the corruption of military discipline, it would be a shock if humans didn’t go extinct. Uncle, I think we need to plan early." Lu Fan was very angry, "We have been arbitrarily bullied by the officers several times."

"Bear with it for now. We still don’t have a clear understanding of the situation. You can’t rashly abandon the camp in a fit of anger. Do you want to join the Beastman camp instead? I bet they wouldn’t even take you." Tang Zheng stroked the little Lolita’s head and his face turned somber, "Try not to leave the small town, or the punishment force will definitely appear."

"Yeah, this is the third day, and I was worried all night, but nothing happened." Lu Fan touches the revolver around her waist and complains, "They’ve even taken away my chainsaw gun. If this wasn’t a heavily guarded camp, I would’ve killed them all."

"There are so many soldiers in the town. The appearance of the punishment squad would definitely cause a riot. The Trojan Horse Game has taken this into account. But aren’t you leaving tomorrow?" Qin Yan was worried about Tang Zheng, "Perhaps, we shouldn’t go?"

"We’re already at the end of the road. The conditions for clearing the game must have something to do with the military camp. Are you planning to spend the rest of our lives in this world?"

"That’s a delusion. Once we run out of ammunition, we’ll either be eaten by beastmen or played to death by those upper-level officers." Pang Meiqin got depressed thinking about how far away their departure time from the game was. She then looked at Tang Zheng, "You got 10,000 points but didn’t leave, do you regret it now?"

"No, I can do whatever I want in this world." Tang Zheng shook his head and joked, "I met a big-breasted Vietnamese sister who can match Bai Guo. So, I plan to give her a chance to survive."

"Flat-chested women have no rights?" Qin Yan lightly tapped Tang Zheng and said, "Anyway, be careful. I’ve seen those Vietnamese people. Plus, there’s this E-cup girl who’s not easy to handle. She actually took down three Filipino women bare-handed. You’re not referring to her, are you?"

"Is there another team?" Tang Zheng guessed whether the team battle this time would involve all Southeast Asian countries. If so, they could be on guard in advance.

"Probably. Who else in this world speaks Filipino?" Pang Meiqin wasn’t sure either because currently, the town was beset with internal strifes and external threats, like a powder keg, ready to explode at any given moment.

"Be careful, in case anything unexpected happens, run towards the northwest of the small town. I’ve seen it before, there’s an abandoned mine a hundred kilometers away. We will reunite there." Tang Zheng gave Qin Yan a map of the military base labeled with many important notes and locations. "Take care of yourselves. I can’t look after you for now. Those Vietnamese are waiting for me to deal with them. Oh, and the Filipinos."

"Okay, let’s go back. Don’t act alone in the future." Tang Zheng turned to leave but was pulled back by Pang Meiqin.

"Don’t be foolhardy. Women can kill on the battlefield too, particularly careful with big-breasted sisters. Big chests can lower men’s IQ."

At six o’clock the next morning, the scheduled training was cancelled, and the town’s highest-ranking officer directly sent Tang Zheng and the group of new recruits to the frontline.
