Chapter 231: Chapter 50: Convenience Store Slaughter
Since Yin Shangwu could track the Russian Trojan Squad, Tang Zheng didn’t rush, starting to formulate tactics according to her thought process. Of course, the first step was gathering intelligence, confirming the number of the enemy, everyone’s abilities, and ratio of rookies to Conquerors. But it’s easier said than done, Yelena also worked hard to avoid being found by Tang Zheng.
Two days later, riding a nighttime bus, Tang Zheng’s group managed to catch up with Yelena’s team on a highway stretch for the first time. Even so, they only dared to observe from several hundred meters away with a telescope, fearing to alert the snake in the grass.
"We’re in Kanagawa Prefecture now, right? After traveling a few hundred kilometers, they’re being darn cautious." Pang Meiqin, sitting in the driver’s seat, commented. She was curious about the tracking prop Shang Wu was holding, although the latter clearly had no intention of explaining.
"Have they given up on Ai Li? Or is stealing Liu Nai enough?" Lin Weiguo mechanically ate his bento while gazing intently at the night bus through the windshield to make sure their targets didn’t escape again. "We’ve chased them for two days now, where are they heading?"
"Lin, there’s no need to be so tense, just relax," Tang Zheng adjusted his mindset and analyzed, "They might want to secure Liu Nai first before snatching Ai Li, or maybe they’re having internal disputes. The faction targeting Ai Li may be weak and forced to rely on others."
Indeed, as Tang Zheng predicted, Yelena’s team had a conflict in their language. The faction interested in Ai Li wished to attack again and secure the target girl, but Liu Nai’s faction wanted to flee. After witnessing Tang Zheng and Yin Shangwu’s power, they didn’t want to risk death especially when Liu Nai was already with them.
"If you want to snatch her, go by yourself." Liu Nai’s faction was the classic ’burn the bridge after crossing it.’ If it weren’t for their intimidating strength, internal strife would explode right away.
The Ai Li faction, disgruntled initially planned to leave, but Yelena said a sentence that made them stay.
"You won’t find that Chinese team if you head back now, they aren’t stupid enough to not hide the fools. Better stay here, and once half a month passes, I will help you snatch her." Yelena’s attitude was completely perfunctory. She didn’t want to lose the combat power of these teammates. As long as she could last until the twenty days were up, even if Liu Nai was snatched back, she would still be in an invincible position. As for the life and death of the Ai Li faction teammates, she didn’t care.
A few members from Ai Li’s faction, lacking alternative plans, had no choice but to stick together and move ahead, although complaints were inevitable.
"If we keep heading in this direction, we’ll hit the southwestern part of Kanagawa Prefecture. They’re not actually planning on going to Hakone to soak in a hot spring, are they?" Tang Zheng, comparing the map, found it inconceivable, "That’s a popular tourist spot, there’ll be lots of tourists. Don’t they fear an Alien attack?"
"They sure know how to live." Zhang Lanyu snorted, lazily lounged on her chair and chatted on and off with a policeman out of sheer boredom. Li Yuanhang sat in the back row, he was never comfortable when people’s attention was on him.
Following their journey the next day, Yelena took her team to Hakone after going in circles, settling at a relatively secluded hot spring inn. They were attacked once by an Alien and an Ironblood Warrior at a gas station, which delighted Zhang Lanyu and the policeman who scrambled for the telescope to see their bad luck. But at the same time, they were afraid Liu Nai would get killed, experiencing a conflicting sense of emotions.
However, Tang Zheng managed to gauge their team’s strength from this. No one was killed in the attack and the Russian woman who seems to command the team definitely knew her stuff and had considerable prestige.
"Their team is much stronger than ours, I don’t hold out any hope for the upcoming attack." Zhang Hao said with his feet up on his seat, with a sullen face, constantly spouting demotivating words, making it clear that he wanted to shirk off responsibility.
"Zhang Hao, you can leave." Tang Zheng said no more and passed on the sketched images of the Russian Trojan Squad members to Lin, "Do you see anything?"
"What’s this you’ve drawn? Not bad as an amusement. If you ever can’t find work, you can do street portraits, haha." Zhang Hao didn’t stop making fun of Tang Zheng. He seemed to have figured out that as long as he didn’t cross the line, Tang Zheng would not get angry with a few sarcastic remarks.
"These are the images of the Russian Trojan Squad members. Isn’t your eyesight this bad?" Lu Fan was perplexed, Tang Zheng sketched quite realistically.
Zhang Hao was taken aback at that remark, hearing laughter behind him, he felt utterly embarrassed. After shooting an angry glance at the back, he muttered a curse and closed his mouth.
"There are thirteen of them in total, eight men and five women. Judging from their equipment, there should be nine Conquerors. They are these individuals." Lin circled nine portraits with his highlighter pen. He didn’t wait for Tang Zheng to continue asking, but started an eager introduction, "I’ve observed these two men particularly. They should be trained military men, skilled in melee and shooting, leave them to me."
Tang Zheng usually engrosses himself in deep thinking, planning things meticulously which both baffled and frustrated Lin Weiguo, a former elite from a southern nation. Today, when he was suddenly asked to participate, he cheered up immediately, his knowledge finally had a place to shine.
