Chapter 1492: Chapter 80: The Secret of the Trojan
The Metropolitan Opera House, located on Broadway, is a world-class venue and a dream stage for singers from all over the world.
Today, a master-level female singer will perform her signature opera. Therefore, the parking lot was packed like sardines, bustling with vehicles.
"This Fatty really can run, he’s nowhere to be found," Sha Ou complained as they lost their target amidst the bustling crowd in front of the theater.
"How is it?" Kevo looked towards Jiang Xiuming, "Didn’t you imprint a psychic mark?"
"The response is intermittent; it seems their psychic expert has joined the fray!" Jiang Xiuming could not pinpoint Aya’s location and, while staring at the opera house, suggested a retreat.
"Why?" Wei Xiangnan was reluctant to give up, "The Fatty and that office lady are clearly important characters for them. If we can kill them, we would definitely earn a lot of points."
"You’ll be the one getting killed," Kevo said with a grim face, not in a good mood.
"Impossible, their team has almost been wiped out, and we have nearly ten group leaders here," Wei Xiangnan retorted, tugging at Warcraft Brother’s arm, "You tell!"
"Cough cough, obviously, there are reinforcements for them in the opera house, let’s not enter rashly," Warcraft Brother was no fool and prepared to leave.
"What if we just let them leave without trying? Two group leaders, just imagine killing them, the spoils would be so substantial that it would make us laugh even in sleep," Fu Tianxiao felt they should fight, though the temporary team had lost members, the casualties were just cannon fodder and didn’t affect their combat strength.
"Tang Zheng, you decide!" Wang Fang mentioned, and instinctively, everyone’s gaze fell on him; unknowingly, he had surpassed the toughest guys and became the temporary group leader.
"If there’s less than a fifty percent chance of winning, give up!" Tang Zheng turned to leave, "Rather than risking killing a group leader, better to slaughter some small fries."
The logic seemed sound to everyone, and they were about to leave when the long-silent Wristwatch notifier suddenly activated.
"Thanks to the efforts of the survivors, the Trojan’s privileges are restored, and spatial type props restrictions are lifted, ready to use."
The silver notification excited everyone, and in an instant, they whipped out their weapons, but the next second, their joy turned to sorrow.
"Attention Trojan Squad near the Metropolitan Opera House, please find and kill the Mitochondria Boss within half an hour, or a random one-third of the survivors will be erased."
"Hey, Trojan, aren’t we on the same side? Why must you erase us?" Warcraft Brother shouted out, clearly dissatisfied.
"Sorry, those are the rules, I can’t break them," Silver Trojan unusually submissive tone took everyone by surprise.
"Who exactly are those guys in the black gold protective clothing?" Dantai voiced everyone’s confusion, "Could it be that aside from our real world, there are other worlds with Trojans controlling Trojan Squads, making them participate in Survival Games?"
Silver Trojan remained silent, everyone stared at the Wristwatch, growing impatient, and finally, it spoke.
"Yes, they too are survivors, belonging to a Trojan," Silver Trojan used the wristwatch to project some 3D images, "In this time-space, your world is just one point that makes it up, apart from that, there are many other points, or worlds, where Trojan Squads exist, it’s not strange."
"Wait, does that mean, the themed worlds we play in, are they all real?" Dong Zixuan suddenly realized a cruel question, "Then those NPCs we killed, were they real life forms?"
"Most are real, some are worlds projected using technology you’ll never understand," Silver Trojan interrupted the policewoman from continuing, "Considering these are pointless, in any world, the law of the jungle, survival of the fittest, is the iron rule to survive. You need to be not only physically strong but also mentally resilient!"
"Those technological worlds are generally real, and those fantasy genre ones are mostly projected worlds, right?" Gu Xueqi asked but received no reply.
"What’s your origin? Seeing that you abide by certain rules, obviously, there’s a higher sovereign behind you, did it create you?" Warcraft Brother had always been curious about this, seizing the moment as Silver Trojan was in a better mood, he quickly asked.
"No comment." Silver Trojan refused to answer.
"Do you and the Trojan of this world have conflicting interests?" Tang Zheng probed the Trojan, "Don’t be quick to deny; otherwise, we survivors might very well slack off!"
"No."
"You’re lying, otherwise why would you be making things so convenient for us this time? And your tone has become friendly as well, which is not your style," Dantai questioned.
Silver Trojan wouldn’t tell these guys that there’s also competition among Trojans; the last ten in each era are to be permanently erased.
"No conflict, so you mean you’re all in cahoots? Then what are we fighting for?" Lu Fan rolled his eyes in contempt at Trojan, "If you’re looking for excuses, at least make them logical."
"Alright, I’ll tell you. This Trojan has been infected with a ’virus’ and gone out of control. We need to eliminate it, or it will cause severe damage to this world, radiating outwards from its center," Silver finally spilled some secrets, though still mixed with some lies.
"What virus?" Not only Tang Zheng pressed for more, but the eyes of Queen Mu and Kevo also lit up, filled with interest, meaning that Trojans also have weaknesses and could be killed, or even used for greater benefits.
"Put away your schemes. Survivors can never kill a Trojan, not even the lowest level one," Silver snorted coldly. As an old Trojan, having witnessed countless life-and-death fights, how could it not understand the thoughts of these guys?
"Listening to the Trojan, they are prepared for such situations and have even experienced them before. So, it implies that the Trojans behind each world probably obey the same person or organization," Tang Zheng pondered deeply, deducing some intelligence from the implications behind the Trojan’s words.
If Silver Trojan knew what Tang Zheng was thinking now, it would definitely regret its loose lips.
"Enough talk, you don’t have much time left, complete the mission quickly!" Silver was ready to leave; if it wasn’t for its own concerns, it wouldn’t want to waste so much breath.
"Don’t go, what exactly is the mission target? It can’t just be to eradicate mitochondria. This thing exists in any living organism; wouldn’t that mean destroying this ’Earth’?" Warcraft bro joked, but it sounded somewhat bitter; the mission was indeed too difficult.
"That would actually be much simpler," Dantai suddenly blurted out, startling everyone.
"Did I hear wrong? You really plan to do that? But wait, it’s possible, yeah, deploying a nuclear bomb, creating a tsunami, really could achieve the goal," the group leaders were stunned for a moment, then actually began to consider how feasible it was.
"Damn, a bunch of lunatics," Silver Trojan was dumbstruck, couldn’t help but curse out loud, "As expected, the survivors trained by the survival game are all somewhat perverted."
Tang Zheng and Dantai looked at each other, both thinking of a possibility. The final mission might just be to kill the infected Trojan, but they couldn’t ask; if it were true, Silver Trojan might erase them to eliminate the risks.
"Stop the nonsense now, get moving. The infected Trojan is still within a controllable range, if it gets worse, you guys will be in real trouble," Silver urged.
"What does that kind of trouble look like?" Kevo asked, but unfortunately, Silver did not answer anymore.
Of course, Silver wouldn’t tell these people that if the Trojan infection deepened, it could operate without rule restrictions, and whether it be equipment or intelligence, it would be provided infinitely to its Trojan Squad, leaving Tang Zheng and the other survivors undoubtedly doomed.
Of course, if the infected Trojan was not dealt with, more Trojan Squads would be dispatched from neighboring main worlds nearby, leading to a massive battle and damages that would take a century to recover from.
"I suddenly have a terrifying speculation. Since this is Fatty’s real world and we can appear here, what do you guys think, could our real world also be invaded by Trojan Squads from other worlds?" Gu Xueqi suddenly thought of possibly becoming a native NPC, being killed innocently, and felt depressed.
"There must be some kind of limitations, don’t worry unnecessarily here, let’s go find the Mitochondria Boss!" Dantai said and headed towards the entrance to the Metropolitan.
The survivors were heavily burdened with thoughts; this predicament made them restless.
No one had tickets, but the Memory Eraser resolved the issue well. After entering the opera house lobby, Tang Zheng saw that the occupancy had reached three-fourths, with the audience still streaming in. Since the performance hadn’t started, the audience chatted carelessly, creating quite a cacophony.
"It’s too chaotic, how do we find the BOSS?" Tianxiao got a headache just looking at the dense crowd.
"Split up, operate in teams, and signal if attacked," Dantai waved his hand, but alas, nobody moved.
"It’s too dangerous, let’s stick together," Wang Jin, whose team was the weakest, didn’t want to split up.
"That would be too time-consuming," Dantai refused.
"You guys are so many, of course, you don’t care about ambushes," Tianxiao complained, she really didn’t want to work with Yue Jing anymore.
"If we weren’t here, would you give up playing the game?" Ruan Feifei retorted; at that moment, she felt lucky to stay with the Warhammer team.
"Since it’s a BOSS, I think mitochondria won’t choose some insignificant civilians; focus on searching amongst those wealthy, stars, and others with considerable status and position. Li Zheng, take the team and check backstage with us," Tang Zheng walked along the middle passageway among the seats,
