Chapter 1363: Chapter 39: Small Town Tavern (Three updates in the night)
Dong Zixuan’s proposal didn’t garner a response, as everyone remained silent and turned to Tang Zheng, awaiting his decision.
Tang Zheng’s prestige remained immense, not only for his strength and character but also for the emotional bond with his Team Members. All those who had survived, except for Mu Nianqi, owed him favors.
The kindly and soft-hearted Tang Zheng, though he might have lacked some domineering air, his approachability made everyone feel secure around him. At least they didn’t have to worry about being abandoned as expendable pawns in the face of danger.
"Let’s rest a bit and gather some news. If we keep up this pace, we’ll collapse before even encountering the enemy," suggested Mu Nianqi, a rarity for her. She felt the mindset of the Trojan Squad was off, overly dependent on Tang Zheng. In combat amid adversity, everything hinged on his perseverance. If the Group Leader fell, the Team would crumble.
"Qing Shuang, drive the car into the small town," Tang Zheng agreed.
Outside the small town, there was a Gas Station. The main street was three hundred meters long, flanked by wooden huts on both sides, inhabited by merely a few dozen families.
The bus stopped outside the only Bar in town. As they looked at the pine sign carved with beer mugs, they seemed to smell the unmistakable scent of the western cowboy.
"You all go first, I’ll go gas up!" said Shen Qingshuang, waiting for everyone to disembark before starting the Cars.
"I’ll accompany you," said the Old Soldier, cautious and worried about Shen Qingshuang being alone in an unfamiliar place.
A large group suddenly entering the small town attracted curious glances but the Townspeople treated them as tourist visitors, not showing overt concern.
As Tang Zheng pushed open the door, he was greeted by rowdy noise—as the smell of sweat mingled with the scent of Alcohol hit him.
The bar-goers all turned their gazes toward him simultaneously.
Tang Zheng walked in composedly, his eyes briefly and imperceptibly sweeping over the patrons. True to being in a democracy where guns are allowed, each person had a holster around their waist, most sporting Revolver guns, with some even donning Riding boots, quite the vintage vibe.
"It’s pretty crowded here, guys. Find seats wherever!" Sha Ou showed no fear and called out to his companions before turning to the man behind the bar, "Boss, bring us whatever Food you’ve got."
"Pay first!" The Boss swept his gaze over Sha Ou directly at Tang Zheng, picking up a menu and placing it on the Table.
Tang Zheng took a seat by the bar, and before he could do anything, Pang Meiqin already handed him the menu from behind.
Little Lolita was miffed at having her task usurped, casting a disgruntled look at the Beautiful Leg Stewardess.
The hubbub in the Bar subsided significantly. Some men stealthily eyed Qin Yan and the others. As beautiful Eastern women, their appeal was naturally strong.
A gentle and demure young wife, an understanding married woman, a fresh and pretty school belle, and a spirited policewoman, each embodying diverse traits, stood out starkly in this foreign land.
Qin Yan and Mu Nianqi were the most beautiful and undoubtedly attracted the most attention. The flight attendant, accustomed to such gazes during her time as a stewardess, was unfazed, while Queen Mu frowned and almost unleashed wrath upon the entire Bar.
"Will this cover it?" Lu Fan opened his backpack, pulling out two hefty handfuls of US dollars, and slapped them down on the Table. "Bring whatever specialty dishes you have, and quick—we’re short on time."
"What would you like to drink? We’ve got everything here!" The Boss called his son to serve the guests. Earning a large sum had significantly improved his disposition, though his brow furrowed upon eyeing the black-clad Captives.
With a Wealthy father, Little Lolita was well-traveled and judging by her disappointed expression after a glance at the liquor cabinet, had high standards.
"What’s wrong?" Bai Guo thought Lu Fan had a headache.
"So much for boasting. It’s all cheap stuff!" Lu Fan’s comment made the Boss frown. Just as he was about to retort, Little Lolita’s words shut him up: "Give me that bottle of Whiskey on the left."
"It’s definitely a bluff." Of all the bottles in the cabinet, that was the most expensive, and the Boss didn’t believe Little Lolita had the palate to recognize it.
Lu Fan unscrewed the cap and took a sip, then spat it out onto the floor with a "ptooey," curling his lip in disgust, "Fake."
"Hey, don’t talk nonsense if you don’t understand," the Boss said angrily, his reputation could be tarnished if word got out.
"Watered down, so it’s not fake?" Lu Fan, bored, argued with the Boss. The increasing discomfort on the Boss’s face suggested Little Lolita was right, inciting the patrons to start jeering.
"Excuse me, has anyone stopped here to rest recently?" Tang Zheng poured a drink and slid it toward the man next to him.
"No one!" The man shook his head and downed the drink in one go.
Tang Zheng was about to ask another question when he heard an argument from behind—it was Dong Zixuan’s voice. He turned to see her glaring at a muscular man who was reeking of Alcohol.
A bit drunk, the muscular man had approached the policewoman with crass advances, inciting her ire.
Tang Zheng was not a nanny, and figured Dong Zixuan could handle it, so he continued gathering information.
The muscular man glowered at Tang Zheng but seeing him turn away, presumed he had been intimidated and laughed smugly, persisting in harassing the policewoman.
The other men whistled and jeered. They had initially held back, but perceiving Tang Zheng’s reluctance to intervene, especially at his youthful twenty-something age, they assumed he was afraid and consequently emboldened by other ideas.
A few men gave each other looks, silently communicating through hand signals.
When one man led the way, others couldn’t sit still any longer, wanting a taste of Eastern women themselves, and so started to approach, no woman left unbothered.
Although the male newbies resented their compatriot being entangled, none of them wanted to cause trouble. Sha Ou frowned, but since Tang Zheng had not given a command, he did not act recklessly. As for the old soldier and Shen Qingshuang, they were still outside.
"Chinese men are all wimps!" the muscular man belched alcohol fumes, unable to persuade the policewoman and began to spout shamelessly, disparaging Tang Zheng and his group.
The newbies couldn’t understand English, but Tang Zheng and Sha Ou had no problems, their gazes fixating on him in an instant.
The muscular man stared back defiantly and even puffed out his chest to show off his muscles.
"Tsk, ignorant of death!" Lu Fan couldn’t stand someone provoking his uncle, grabbed a beer bottle, leaped off his chair, ready to thrash the muscular man.
"You her man? Coward!" the muscular man downed a swig of vodka, already drunk, and suddenly reached out to cop a feel of the policewoman’s backside.
Dong Zixuan was taken by surprise, shuddering, then kicked out at the muscular man.
The muscular man staggered a few steps but stabilized himself while the other men laughed boisterously, all seeming eager to try their luck.
Stimulated by alcohol and beauty, these men were going a bit mad.
Tang Zheng casually picked up a glass from the bar and flung it, the glass cutting through the air and striking the muscular man squarely on the forehead. Blood gushed out flowing down his cheeks.
The muscular man reeled backward, but thanks to Tang Zheng’s perfectly balanced force, he did not pass out, which only made it hurt more.
"Fanfan, chop off one of his hands!" Tang Zheng was furious. The men beside the muscular man seemed to be friends, seeing him get hit, they too grabbed beer bottles to smash at Tang Zheng’s head.
Pang Meiqin was about to take action, but Tang Zheng moved faster. A kick cracked the man’s knee, deforming the entire calf, laying him flat on the ground.
Lu Fan ran up to the muscular man, first kicked him in the ankle to knock him down, then drew out the bronze sword and ferociously chopped down on his arm.
Blood sprayed as the arm went flying, and the muscular man screamed. The locals, who had been jeering just moments ago, suddenly fell silent, staring dumbfounded at the little loli they had never expected to take action.
"Hmph, take this idiot away, don’t disrupt our meal!" Lu Fan kicked the severed arm aside and returned to Tang Zheng’s side, "Dong Zixuan, be smarter next time, don’t keep causing trouble for uncle."
The policewoman was chastised by the young girl and blushed with hurried embarrassment.
Three men went to help the muscular man, but as they bent down, they suddenly pulled out handguns and opened fire on the Trojan Squad.
Dong Zixuan got shot, but fortunately, her protective clothing blocked the bullet, and she wasn’t injured. However, two unlucky newbies were hit and fell into pools of blood.
The newbies were thrown into complete disarray, screaming and running towards the tavern’s exit.
Qin Yan and Mu Nianqi reacted very quickly, opening fire and killing them.
The bar owner was even more arrogant, hauling a machine gun from under the bar, pulling the bolt with one hand, ready to fire on the customers.
Tang Zheng grabbed his warhammer and threw it, smashing the man into the liquor shelves, shattering bottles and spilling alcohol everywhere.
"We’ve been ambushed!" Queen Mu was furious, "I should’ve guessed it, don’t go out!"
Mu Nianqi’s warning came half a step too late, and the three cleverest newbies had already run out of the tavern, which brought disaster upon them.
Gunshots rang out, and a sniper hiding in the shadows took action. The three newbies’ skulls were blown away, their corpses collapsing to the ground amidst a pool of blood.
The old soldier and Shen Qingshuang were also under attack and were temporarily unable to come.
"Take the back way out!" Tang Zheng yelled, smashing through the wall and evacuating from another side. If there were explosives beneath the ground, the Conquerors would be unharmed, but the newbies would undoubtedly be wiped out.
Li Xinlan and Ai Yixin were in charge of watching over the black-clothed captives; seizing the chaos, one attempted to flee. The housewife delivered a knee strike to his abdomen, followed by a knife-hand strike that knocked him out cold, dragging him out like a dead dog.
"What kind of people are these?" Pang Meiqin couldn’t understand why they were attacked.
"They’re Baldy’s subordinates," Lu Fan was sharp, "Another Trojan Squad wouldn’t know of our presence here to set an ambush, and the black-clothed men wouldn’t do this sort of thing, so that only leaves Baldy. He must have gotten wind of our whereabouts from the Tentacle woman."
As soon as Tang Zheng dashed out of the tavern, three Hummers welded with machine guns were already intercepting them, spraying bullets in their direction, even two people extended RPGs from windows.
Pang Meiqin pulled out one, pressed the trigger, and the rocket shell with its tail flame shot towards the foremost Hummer.
The other side also fired; Tang Zheng activated his shield, catching it, then burst out of the smoke to blow up a Hummer with an AT-4.
A muscular man appeared, wielding a machine gun and spraying the Trojan Squad wildly; his hair moving like squirming maggots.
"He’s on the hit list," Lu Fan was delighted, the irritation from the ambush swept away.
The muscular man pressed the detonator, the entire tavern was engulfed in explosive flames in an instant, the blast wave gushing out, scattering the newbies in all directions.
Seeing none were killed by the blast, the muscular man was almost fuming with rage. Had it not been unclear whether his own people were still in the tavern, he would have triggered the explosion earlier, little did he expect his targets to respond so swiftly.
"Normally, when attacked by an enemy, one should hide and assess the situation first, right?" the muscular man was frustrated, realizing the mission tasked by the boss wasn’t going to be easy.
